anfieldude,
do u own a dune hd? how does it compare to the wdtv live in terms of picture/sound quality? and how does it compare to the normal bluray player in terms of loading speed/picture/sound?

Another feature filled update.

MKV chapters are now supported!

The only feature that is missing is the "Source Direct" mode.

I owned the Prime 3.0 before and own the Max now.

PQ wise very similar to WDTV Live. It uses Sigma anyway. The good thing is that it plays full BD backups. It can bitstreams lossless codecs. Plays everything u throw at it.

BD loading is not that slow now with the Max. The Prime was slower. Max is pretty fast. Compared to the Oppo its slow, but compared to Pannys etc, shd be decent.

No complaints.

so apart from playing full bd backups and bitstreaming lossless audio, there's no point getting a dune hd if PQ is one of my major motivation to upgrade?

Honestly speaking yes if your usage and main point of upgrading is that. There are other aspects to look at for the Dune whereby some features are not available in most entry level media players.

if you play hi-res audio tracks (FLAC, AIFF, WAV, etc) with 88.1/96/192 kHz sampling rates, then it'd be wise to get something else like the Dune/Oppo. The WDTV Live resamples it internally to 48 kHz, regardless analog/optical/hdmi out

if your MKV has Dolby TrueHD audio tracks, you will get static or no sound. You would have to manually extract the AC3 core and remux your MKV.
if your MKV has DTSMA audio tracks, you will get sound, whether it is decoding DTSMA or the DTS-core, I have no idea since I use analog outs...

if the above applies to you, best get the Dune or something else smile.gif

thanks for the advice. one thing i must mention is that my wdtv live does bitstream dolby truehd to my amp and it outputs as truehd. with dts(ma), it only manages dts. on both audio formats, it's always dts/dd... the only no sound situation is when the mkv is encoded with aac5.1 codec. i'll have to output it as steoreo to get sound. wdtv live is pretty good smile.gif

i do agree with its inability to output @ 192khz. i was hoping that the sigma 8642 would be an improvement over sigma 8655 in both PQ/AQ smile.gif

if dune hd has audiophile grade components then i'll certainly get it!!

Last time I streamed HD contents via wireless on my media player and after a while, my router overheat and my router can be considered half-dead. The performance of my router degraded so much and hangs very often. Since then, I stream over a wired LAN setup. laugh.gif

Any issue to stream high bit rate bluray movie over wired LAN? I'm thinking to changing to HD-Dune Smart D1, my xtreamer has problem to stream high bit rate 1080p movies, and also BDISO file.

How high is the bit rate? As long your wired LAN can achieve at least 15-20mbps should do fine for most files already.
