Ok there are usually no short cut in life. To be frank, on the whole BF is much more convenient than giving formula milk. The problem is in the 1st 1-2weeks where u think ur baby not getting enough milk or ur not producing enough milk. Thats where many ignorant mum gives up. Do u think god is not perfect?? everything got reason.
1. ur little milk has more than enough nutrient.

2. ur baby should not be taking so much milk right after birth so as to get use to feeding.

3. ur milk will gradually become more if u patiently breast feed without giving any other milk ( exclusive BF !! ) estimate around 1-2weeks

4. For some reason if u must degil degil  give other milk ( eg if ur milk is infected in case of mastitis-even that u should BF, then use a spoon or a syringe to feed. Absolutely no bottle in the first 2-4 months )

5.why BF easier than FM? When ur breast ( tiny or huge ) starts producing alot of milk, u dont have to get up often to go bancuh the milk. Just plug and play only. No need to boil water and keep in vast. No need to worry too hot or too cold.

6. BF is proven to not only strenghtened ur childs jaw but also helps to establish a stronger bond between the child and mother. I am not joking.

Of coz in the end BF is so much convenient.. which is one of the reason why i'm still bf..no need to pack milk when go out..no need to wake up to make milk etc etc..

Yes..it's easier said..that we have to be patient ( i do agree..patience is a virtue) but being a first time moms and dads..we tend to worry..got enough milk or not? is the baby full or not? And...yes..it's true that baby don't need to have so much of milk as their stomach size is very very small. However, there are some of us here..who doesn't know or being pressured by 3rd party (like family/in-laws) that baby is still hungry etc etc..it's quite challenging for the moms. Which is why they need the support..not blaming or pinpointing their mistakes which will in turn discourage them.

actually i blame on the FM marketing for giving misleading information. All these oldies believes what the TV marketing says. You can't expect the oldies to go and search the comp..unless they are IT savvy. Unlike us latest generation parents who would take the initiative to do research.

domperidone..or sumthing. That would really be my last resort...i'll suggest looking at the natural way first before going thru medication.

wow, i wonder if henryhing is guy or a girl...

and if she's a girl i wonder if she's been pregnant and have a baby before..

please don't go around calling people uneducated.

prior to delivery i read many articles online, in magazines, leaflets about breastfeeding.

it just so happens my milk didn't come in until the 4th day, maybe since i was induced and delivered 2 weeks earlier than my due date.
and when it did come, my baby did and was able to latch on and i directly breastfeed him for a whole week, but he was also fed expressed breast milk in the bottle since some people thought he wasn't getting enough milk from me. and he was fine for that whole week, switching between bottle and boob, until one day he just got lazy and prefer the bottle.
and again through educating myself, i discovered this is called nipple preference.
so now he's still getting breast milk only it's given to him through a bottle.
i don't feel it's a trouble to pump, i'm given 3 months leave, so i have ample time to build my stock.
and it's also quite convenient that other family members, not just me, can feed him too.

please stop shooting off your mouth now.

Sorry to offend u but i am a dad. Btw i think its called Nipple Confusion instead thus better check the leaflets ur reading again. Hope its not written by ur mother in law. I am just speaking from experience including d mother in law thingy. Its up to u to learn something or not. I will tell the truth here for the benefit of others as I somehow believe many people still don learn inspite of numerous advice from other existing tread as well. I'll take this opportunity to say this to all mum or future mum who prefer to read from forum than proper books, or prefer to listen to their mother in laws than their doctor: Please don harm ur baby!!! They r innocent and their lives is in ur hands.. Pleaseeeee persevere and breast feed..I beg u........U can do it..

I also would like to thank phythia79 for being the kindest to me rclxms.gif

nipple confusion n nipple preference are 2 different things.. my baby can latch on and suckle for a while but then he will stop n reject n scream for the bottle.

it's easy for u to say isn't it, like it's something that can be done with a snap of a finger. Congrats to u for being a dad to a fully breastfed baby, congrats to ur wife also for having it easy or for whatever problems u've overcome.

But there are people out there who are trying to give their babies the best they can or they intend to but they're not as lucky as u or ur wife.

So please change ur tone when replying n stop being so righteous just because u managed to do things right.

Hi all, since u are in the topic of breastfeeding, just to share with you wat I learnt from a lactation consultant.

For successful breatsfeeding, avoid these foods as it will reduce your milk supply: Broccoli, cabbage, guava and black beans (the type you use to cook soup - confinement ladies like to cook this because apparently it is good to have this during confinement, but it is doing harm in reducing your breast milk supply!)

To make sure you have a lot of milk supply, you must drink 3 litres of water a day (including soups).
One soup that can help increase supply - use green and young papaya, boil with red dates for 2 hours. Then put in fish head and boil until the soup turns thick. Very fishy smell but really increases my milk supply.
For dessert, try red bean and lily buds cooked in brown sugar.
Also during confinement, drink a lot of red dates water and warm water.
Important thing is have enough rest, and don't keep thinking that you don't have enough milk. Your brain plays a part in providing the psychological effect to your body.

Your body produces double the amount of milk around midnight to 1am. Try to breastfeed directly to your baby during this time.
Throughout the day, you must directly breastfeed your baby in 4 hours interval. Best is, feed on one side and pump the other side. Don't be lazy during night time!

I've been doing this and my baby is now 5 weeks old and I've even accumulated quite a number of expressed breast milk in the freezer. smile.gif

To all the mommies out there and mommy to be, don't give up!

Hi,

Thank u so much for your lovely advice. Veru useful for me since I bf my baby of 4 months as well. I'm a working mum and so I used to pump my bm during night (Because more milk during night like u said) and also during my lunch time in the office and store it in the freezer. Then give my babysitter next day.

He used to love this compared to fm, but suddenly since 1 week he doesn't like EBM. do you have any suggetions?

teq, when handling ebm u must remember not to shake it... y do u need to boil it? they boil it to get rid of rancid smell but so far, i dun boil oso ok ar... if temperature too hot it'll destroy all the nutrients... use the old fashion way of putting it into hot water bowl... before give to bb test if the milk is the rite temperature smile.gif
