if you enter into this kind of uni u need to do alot of self study as they only provide you 5 two hour tutorial call only per semester and the fees is not cheap.for degree you need to do 3 assignment.

Actually I quite comfortable with the job now but it cannot guarantee a good future in my current company. So I just need go for a degree and proceed my path with other good prospect company.

2 hrs tutorial call...so less. But what i think if i manage to enroll into public U for the coming intake, I maybe will graduate when my age of 25. So maybe that time i start with 0 cause no experience and the age like quite old what i think.

The university conducts face to face tutorials on weekends, rather than weekdays for the convenience of working adults. They are conducted on a monthly basis, so the bulk of the experience is largely self-learning. There is an online learning management system which students can access to discuss topics and connect with their coursemates, tutors and lecturers online.

They have an active enrolment session on now for their July intake, so do call them for more info.

I had go for the open day on last Sunday to gather some info. But I still not sure whether to enroll WOU or not. This is because some of my friends experience stated that WOU is not qualified on tutor and the quality. Pls correct me if I am wrong smile.gif

I am studying there and I would say...just enroll the WOU! The subject contents is same standard as other universities but in simple and fun to learn approach. I just finish my final exam and I found the questionnaires were quite tough to answer. I never attend to my tutor class before as I prefer self-learning due to my work, so I am not in position to commend the quality of tutors. But in term of quality of the subjects, I would say it is quite tough also. You can check into MQC website to check whether the course that you intend to is approved or not. Btw, WOU is still quite new and still growing and improving.

The label of an open university will affect you in the hunt for corporate juggernauts, or furthering your studies in prestigious universities, especially overseas.
However, within Malaysia, the term of an open university is not yet known widely, but I do advice you to consider alternative options yet before pursuing for open universities. I heard the quality of education is not bad, but it's the goal behind this credential.
Do you want to further your studies overseas? Or do you just want to work in Malaysia right after this credential? Or more as a collection of qualification to strengthen your position in your current occupation? smile.gif

Hi learners,

May i know any one applied block credit transfer? Any one offered exemptions on Learning Skills for University Studies or Communication Skills for the workplace? I am a Diploma graduate and i'm informed that it is possibility that i may get exemption for some of University compulsory courses.

Feel free to comment. Thanks.

I suppose that as long as learners do have qualification in English language test. Enrollment for degree or MBA courses in foreign country shouldn't be a problem right? Feel free to comment.

I would suggest that if you are really interested in a distance learning (correspondence) degree which is recognised internationally and updated regularly, try the London external degree programmes. Probably more expensive and more strenuous then the OUM or Wawasan Open University.

However, the University of London degrees have an impecable pedigree, over 100 years old, and is recognised internationally and also by many international professional bodies. Our local open universities are just getting local recognition and I doubt their degrees are recognised internationally, let alone by international professional bodies.

Its very smart for you to enquire WOU,
I can help you answer regarding the international recognition for WOU, but is more into individual case by case

1) WOU is with international organization like ICDE (International Council for Open and Distance Education) partnership of UNESCO
And their MBA is with Commenwealth of Learning program that create by Commonwealth Heads of Government
2) You can try do self-accessment on Employment Pass and S-Pass for singapore via http://sat.mom.gov.sg/satservlet and enter Wawasan Open University as your graduated University to check but it doesnt reflect the real actual result of your application, as actual application is case by case basis
3) All certificate, degree, diploma, master, phd of Wawasan open university is MQA approved therefore you can do credit transfer, continue your master, phd in any University or College in Malaysia.
4) If your country doesnt recognize your university, a good example is University of Rockhampton (US) degree graduate, want to apply for Wawasan Open University for the MBA, he is being REJECTED as his certificate is not recognize even US itself.
5) If a wawasan open university graduated in their degree and want to get a MBA in National University of Singapore (NUS), The NUS registry will first check Malaysia Of Higher Education(MOHE) and Malaysia Qualification Agency (MQA) on their recognition on Wawasan Open University. WOU have all this bodies recognition.
However if your result is just pass or CGPA2.0 and cant speak english or write in english well, NUS may not accept the individual too. But if you were a First Class Honor in USM, Wawasan Open University, you will always welcome by NUS = ) is all case by case.

Recognition of Wawasan Open University were MOHE, MQA, JPA all these is important for your international recognition, loan approval etc and WOU have all recognition for all their Programs.
And WOU being rated by SETARA as 5star university too...

Most important is Wawasan Open University is Malaysia's first private, not-for-profit, open learning institution, a lifelong learning community without borders. The university takes a flexible approach to learning, aiming to make higher education accessible to all - anytime, anywhere. Funded by charitable trusts, corporations and the public, with the goal of offering lower the personal cost of learning and make it more affordable.

In fact it depends on your own learning effort. If you are a strong self learning person WOU is ok for you. If you are solely depend from tutorial, then elearning Uni is not suitable for you. Pertaining tutor quality I guess nowadays with mr google, you can be better than the tutor or even lecturer. Your success depends on yourself.

Well, my proposal is not to go for WOU.

1st, the qualification of the tutor. Some of the tutors totally have no idea on what they are teaching. They don't have sufficient experiences and they are not subject matter experts.

2nd, the qualification of service. The service is bad. Once enrolled, I have BAD customer experiences. For example, new rules to students to pay additional RM20 for car sticker every year. During registration, the advisor told me that we can park our car anytime at the campus, FREE OF CHARGE. Other than that, they are increasing the administration fees year over year, that trying to charge more to the students.

There are more and more POOR services examples. WOU seems to forget their vision and mission, and over commercialized the education business.

As a student, I don't feel "value-added" to myself since I enrolled the program to further study and I regret that made the wrong decision. As a customer, I don't feel satisfy with they way they treat their customer, even worst compare to those local U. As a hiring manager, I don't see the "quality" of students compare to those graduated from local universities.

I am totally agree with u. Before I joined last time, they told me my diploma course can be excempted for which subject which based on their previous result . So when I did the credit transfer application, out of the all the subjects they said at first before I study, there were 3 couldn't be exempted. Well I don't like people telling different story. In the end, due to my career switching, I didn't continue my degree in Wou already. Recently I wish to look for a part time degree to study again, I think I would choose open u. Wou is very greedy, all they want is just money. This is my thoughts of them.

Why not go for long distance studied with IPTA? All IPTA got this faculty.

They are cheaper and degree from those IPTA definitely "sound" better.

Hi there... a fresh Degree graduate here from WOU Kuching branch... took my diploma in segi before this and was supposed to continue my degree in segi KL but due to unforeseen circumstances, i did not have the chance to go KL to pursue... so I decided to just work and fund myself to study with WOU...

What i can say with this WOU is that, the course is as tough as any other Universities.. At one point it affected my mental well being just because i had a hard time understanding the coursework 🤣🤣...

and to see a lot of people here in this forum claimed that the tutors/lecturers aren't skilled and knowledgeable enough is not true!! Though, there are some lousy ones for sure... but my experience was that the good ones outnumbered the lousy ones.. As for the good ones, I seriously gotta give credits to a few tutors such as Mr. Vijayan, Mdm Amee, Mdm Noreena, Mr Lim, Ms Donna and Mr Dzul, u guys are awesome!! And just like any other Uni, the tutors sometimes will also aim at you for not paying attention in the class... My class at once got scolded just because we did not read the course material and understand it before attending the class.. Well we only had like 2 hours... Can't blame the tutors for getting annoyed also.. haha... But regardless of what, I seriously gained a lot from them.. They are like my mentors!!

But there are a few whom I do not want to name, i almost fell asleep during their classes 😅...
....By the way, every University also have lousy lecturers not just WOU...

All i can say is that i learned a lottttttttt in this University to the point it helped with my job..

Other than that, my complains with the university is that the institution have the tendency of not having classes offered for the upcoming semesters.. I once had an argument with the staff who claimed that I did not check my program structure properly before enrolling for new classes (in fact I did), that's why i have a few semesters without any class 🤷🏻‍♂️.. Wasted my time... 😒😒

Another thing i must say that I find it weird is that they pressed on safe keeping the certs after I graduated from the uni.. They told me if the cert is being damaged in whatever circumstances, the institution will not reprint.. As from what I know, most Universities will have the ability to reprint degree certifications that comes with a fee.. I made me purchase a waterproof and fireproof bag just to safekeep my WOU degree cert 😅😅

But anyway, my advice is that, this University will serve as a last resort for those who do not have the choice but to pursue their degree/diploma while working.. as their timing is the most flexible and meets most working adult's timing.. If i have the choice of choosing other uni, of course i will go for taylors, curtin etc... But i wouldnt say this is a lousy Uni.. It's not..

Hope it helps for those who are googling about his Uni..
