Just received a replacement set of my iphone 4 from Maxis last week.
However, one thing to clarify... the set i received is a new set or a refurbish set? I heard many rumours that it may be refurbish or new set.
Maxis replaced the set for me without any box as they dind't request for my box when i initially hand in for replacement. It's quite unfair if the set is refurbish as my phone is only used less than a month. I rather they repair the faulty part instead of giving me the refurbish set as my 'original' phone is brand new 1.
Actually how to determine the set is new or refurbish?
I received the set without box so can i claim it as refurbish set? The imei number is different with my original 1, so its quite weird that my phone imei is different with my box as they didn't exchange my original box.
Maxis only give me the set and warranty card without any acknowledgement letter, so in future how can i claim that this is the replacement set from Maxis as there is nothing to proove.

Please share your experience if you have claimed it before. Thanks smile.gif

yeah, i dont think they can afford to replace with new one each time. probably you felt unfair they gave you a refurbished set, but it should work fine.

you can try to check for the production week here. http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html

came across a replacement unit few days back with production date in January and model number A1332. not sure if it's a refurbished or new unit but production week tells that it's a 3 month old unit.

original unit bought during launch last September has production date in September and serial number ends with MY.

anyway, Apple's warranty policy clearly stated that they have the right to replace your unit with a new or refurnished unit. smile.gif

you can insist on getting back your original set but you'll probably have to wait 6 months to 1 year for it to be repair.

My replacement is next week... Actually after reading this I felt a bit sad due to the term for giving refub set for replacement... Whatever the condition is it is still not brand new. After fork out 2k+ for this and getting refub I think this is totally not fair sad.gif. I might want to check the serial number first thing... Hope to get a new one in a box... Finger crossed...

Refurbished set is always a faulty set that has been sent in for warranty. It could have been used anywhere from one week to a period of 10 months since it was launched last June.

imei will be different. just make sure the telco update it electronically in their system. receipt is not important.

The problem is they don't allow user to inspect the phone before buying... As a consumer we have the right to test and satidfy before paying them... My phone speaker can't hear anything.. Not after one week, or one day, its on the spot issue. I request for new one but they say need to get from DiGi

I think it should be normal right for replacement set. Looks like all the ppl here are aware of any replacement set just come with the phone and the card and I thnik these 2 are the real concern not the box...

Gonna exchange mine soon... Hope to get a new set rarher than a refub one smile.gif

It's pretty much of a subjective con if you were to ask me. Anyway, it's subject to the terms and conditions set forth therein and it would be of a less-humiliating lesson if one reads (if he/she able).

owh man... come on. try to think again,
if yours is faulty even after 1 day use, they will take it and repair..
and then it will become refurnished item already since it has been repaired.
if they return it to u, u still get a refurbish item. where is the "NEW" and ORIGINALITY?
if u can get your phone 1:1 exchange rather than wait after 6 months ++, I would prefer to have my phone a.s.a.p

refurbished set is also comes with original parts. u dont have to worries bout it.

its pathetic to think that you will get a brand new set.
put yourself in their shoes, will you change a new set for your customer after using the phone for more than 1 month?
i think by giving a refurbished set is good enough

Yeah I was also surprised when she said 1 hour come collect. I actually prepared to wait 2 weeks haha. I used mine for 6 months already the on/off rattle badly and then the home button not functioning that well. Now got replacement set all good.

I just got my replacement unit this week also after waiting 2 weeks. The replacement unit is also a "LL" model. My problem iPhone was only used it for less than 2 months. Warranty claims because of ear speaker no sound!

Last time my friend bought a used iPhone with "LL" model and we both couldn't figure which country is it from! But now I know from the hard way! sad.gif sad.gif

actually US iphone also have 'LL' model number

and real refurb phone have '5k' as two starting letter for serial (note:serial not model number)

so my take is 'LL' are same as those iphone in black box which apple store in US used to swap out defective phone.
Genius in apple store US claims those phone in black box are new.

My theory is apple made those new iphone in black box to quickly replace defective phone without needing to replace cable/earphone/printed thingy to save cost.

Me too got replacement at Maxis KLCC .... just wait for 2-3 hours and got the replacement set... my previous iphone had wi-fi connection problem and they tested and replace it on the spot.. the best thing is I have been used it for six month and now I get a new replacement... if you want to get replacement on the same day, only two Maxis centre is available either KLCC or TTDI... others will have to wait 2-3 weeks for replacement....

Did you check whether your replacement set has a yellow screen problem. I read in another thread that the replacement set screen is yellowish compared to another iphone 4. Did you do a comparison to check?

just wanna share my experience here. I got my Iphone4 from Digi Johor. After few months of using, the home button become not responsive. I feel like lazy wanna go all the way to digi centre since im staying quite far from digi centre and plus i heard digi not going to replace unless ur iphone home button is fully failed. Recently i came to UK for holiday and saw this apple store. Just trying my luck just advice them my issue and they book me for an appointment. Few mins later a stuff from genius bar came and she pressed my iphone 4 and its only fails 2 out of 10 times. She said well okay, u r not happy with ur home button so we gonna change another iphone4 for u but do u have ur data backup in ur computer? After sign 2 forms/agreement then she took a refubrished iphone and after i checked everything was exactly new and i;m more than happy to get a 'like new' iphone, since my old iphone has visible scratches on the bezel due to the stupid bumper. My model now is MC603B instead of MY.. my conclusion is apple store customer service in UK is far better than malaysia!

On Sunday (8/5) I went to Maxis center TTDI to get replacement for my iphone (weak wifi signal) and they said got no stock for 16gb. The staff said that maybe restock on monday/tuesday and I can get my replacement on Wednesday. Then got call from them to collect my replacement on Wednesday (11/5). So I went back there on 11/5 and the staff told me that they got no stock (I thought they just restocked?). I told them I received call to collect my replacement so they must reserved 1 for me already. Only after that got my replacement (refurbished 5K model).

How true is their 'same day replacement'? or too many people got problem with iphone 4? hmm.gif

When you send your iPhone back to Maxis. You need to present your warranty card along with your iPhone when claiming. Maxis will follow the warranty as stated on the warranty card. Therefore, the warranty follows the first unit. Reason is, even after they swap your unit for a new/refurbished unit, your warranty card isn't exchanged.

However, when you check in Apple's website. Your warranty will start over again because it's a new/refurbished (technically new) unit. But this can't be a basis for an extended 11 months of warranty because Maxis will only accept your iPhone with their (Maxis') warranty card which follows the first unit.

@vostro78: Refurbished unit looks new because they can't be replacing their customer's iPhones with used and scratched units... So yea, yours follows the 1st unit's warranty.

it's a refurbished set, as in someone bought it, returned it (maybe just after a few days of using) because got problem, apple go fix it and replace any not-good-as-new parts, and give it to u. so look at it as an iphone that passed QC twice tongue.gif

Mine is a replacement unit, but honestly I feel better to have a refurbished unit. Because it is usually 100% no problem since the phone is being investigated and take apart and put together again with all the new stuffs.

My original unit has no sound output so i cant live with it lol. As with this refurbished unit, i dropped my phone two times and seems like everything is still functioning well happy.gif

BTW, why are u guys using 3rd party charger when u have the original charger that comes with the phone. so fast spoilt 1 ar?

Think of it this way. A bought iphone today and tomorrow send back to get a replacement becuz got problem. Then the iphone is bring to fix and send back as replacement unit.

B got A's replacement iphone, is still totally new and fixed (A only use for 1 day) with no scratching whatsoever.

So it's considered new lah...just other ppl touch before only loh. same like how u touch our iphone aredi before changing it with a replacement unit.

To me a replacement(refurbished) unit is new. In fact a refurbished unit is a unit with double the QC.

mine doesnt have yellowish effect..u should realize this when u receive it before u sign the acceptance letter..its easy, just setting the brightness to 100% n u will realize whether its yellowish or not..if yellowish u can ask them to replace with the other unit..

So. Buy new 2k iPhone. Spoilt after 1 month. Send for warranty, get refurbished set which is used 1-12 months but repaired to full working condition. Correct?

I bought an iPhone 4 on July this year, and the warranty is valid until July 2012. About two months later, there were rattling sounds from it.

I went to Maxis and got it replaced with a refurbished unit in a visit. All good except the warranty of the refurbished unit is valid until Jan 2012, which is clearly shorter than the initial unit.

I know this only after I check with Apple's Check Your Service and Support Coverage page, here http://goo.gl/ZG7LN
