Anyone have any problem with the touch screen? It got stuck sometimes for me.. Is this considered defect?

guys, the most weirdest thing happened to me today and i really need your advise, although i've fixed the problem myself i need to know why.

now, just a litle history, before i bought the 9900 i was on the 9700, when i change my sim card to the 9900, everything was transferred for me automatically to my new 9900, via the marvelous technology of blackberry so that's that...

so today, after 2 weeks of usage, i am on my blackberry 9900 as normal, 9900...just doing my thing on bbm...then suddenly it did not detect my sim card, so being a normal human i open the battery, take out the sim card, then put it back in again...now, when i put in back the sim card, the blackberry detected a "new sim card" , and asked me for my bb user name and password, which i keyed in and it keeps getting incorrect.

so my only option was to click forget password, but then it did not even identify my blackberry username (which is my email). so i had to WIPE the blackberry to enter inside the phone again...i wasnt afraid coz i know i had a computer restore just a couple of days ago i backed up.

i solved the problem, but my question is...WTF just happened?!

New to BB and wish to ask about firmware update.
Now default is .261 , latest is .353 I think. Will BB offer update through official website or have to get from the distributor like brightstar? I not that confident to use the 'leaked' version in forum.

After update will all the settings, email, msg, app wiped off too?
