How noob are the technicians that not make a full diagnose.the decoder only shows --:-- but the technicians said no problem with the alignment of the dish QUOTE(neb @ May 4 2011, 07:51 PM) Please check the cable connection between the satellite and decoder. If not call CS to insist them to replace the decoder entirely. |

QUOTE(dxjb @ May 4 2011, 03:16 AM) hey there bro chuppachop..since ur in Singapore, could u help explain what u guys have there in terms of the football coverage..? First of all, Im interested to know how has mioTV or mio stadium done in their debut season covering EPL? Who are the presenters on Matchday and what kind of coverage do u get? Here, we get the usual ESPN chaps and then switch over to the almost intolerable pundits Astro offers..is it true u still get John Dykes and the Premier League TV channel feed there? IMG Sports Media is the production partner for all the BPL programs on mio stadium. John Dykes has some deals with IMG hence we can get to see him and gang presenting the BPL programs from the UK studios. For the magazine programs on mio stadium, they are produced by the local IMG Sports Media Singapore office with presenters like Jamie Reeves, Paul Masefield, Steve McMahon, Patrick Kinghorn, Soo Kui Jien, Dominic Lau etc.N one other thing..recently we had a debate on here whether or not football coverage or EPL in general should be shared among providers..I do not see this as helping the customers but burdening them as it might mean paying for two providers for football..isnt that what Singaporeans are facing right now? More info here: http://info.singtel.com/node/7211 mio stadium only has rights to BPL, UEFA CL & UEFA Europa League. mio TV also carries Goal TV1 & Goal TV2 channels which has rights to Carling Cup, English Championshop, English League 1, Dutch Eredivisie & Scottish Premier League. mio TV sports channels includes mio stadium Ch 102-109, mio stadium Ch 199 [on demand matches], ESPN, STAR Sports, Goal TV 1, Goal TV 2, STAR Cricket, ASN HD, ESPNEWS, ESPN HD & TEN Cricket For Starhub sports channels and soccer rights, kindly see attached....too lazy to type out. mio TV has exclusive rights to BPL and UCL/UEL hence Starhub subscribers would need to subscribe to SingTel mio TV in order to catch these matches. The proposed ruling from broadcasting authority, MDA, is that there will not be any exclusive contracts with program/rights providers like ESPN, BPL etc. Hence, Starhub & SingTel can both carry BPL or ESPN or FOX News etc. on their own platforms. However, this ruling has met with objections from the broadcasters as this would mean they cannot "sell" their channel to the highest bidder -- less $$ for them to pocket. This ruling still has yet to come into effect due to these objections. I notice some similarity between Astro & Starhub....in order to block their competitor to offer full-time channels of other channel, the dirty strategy is that they buy exclusive rights to 1/2 or 1/3 of programs on the channels to "feed" their in-house channel. e.g. by "buying" exclusive programs blocks of Eurosports News, Astro effectievly blocked Eurosports News to offer the 24/7 Eurosports Channel to providers like Hypp TV or DETV. Starhub bought exclusive programs from Taiwan Channel, San Lih TV, hence SingTel is unable to bring in this channel to SingTel subscribers as a chunk of the San Li TV programs are exclusive to Starhub. Let me know if you need more info. Attached thumbnail(s) |

QUOTE(chuppachop @ May 4 2011, 10:50 PM) Yes..finally someone from Singapore that can shed light on the current state of affairs..Thanks for the info bro..that was more than anticipated..this is actually the evidence that I wanted to see and others to know that two providers splitting broadcast rights for sports content..What I wanted to point out is that two providers does not necessarily help the consumers..it might end up burdening them..we had a debate on here whether it was right for Astro to have the exclusive rights for the EPL..some didnt like it..and some, like me, would settle for it as long as we dont need to pay double to watch games..In Singapore's case, football fans are paying for 2 providers for their dose of football..is that good? If it cheap, then no problem..but if its expensive, football fans and consumers are ultimately losing out either by not subscribing to one of the 2 providers or just pay.. What I think is the best solution is like what the ruling state..the rights goes to the channels, i.e ESPN and that channel is provided by both providers..thats what happens now in the UK with Sky Sports and ESPN sharing the rights for the EPL but Sky is still providing ESPN on the platform.. N here, everytime I hear Astro's host Jason Dasey say 'This match is exclusively live only on Astro', it makes me wanna throw up..he keeps saying that like over and over again throughout the whole season.. What I would like to see is the IMG Premier League channel take over all broadcast of the Premire League coverage here so those Richard Keys, Andy Gray, martin Tyler, wannabes would watch he shows instead of being on it.. I really hope we can get to see John Dykes and his gang than the wannabes Astro gives us week in week out..At least in Singapore, its equally divided between the local production and international production.. QUOTE(azrin_kiko @ May 4 2011, 08:22 PM) Talking about noob, the installer that installed my B.yond PVR don't know there is a hard disk inside the box! When I discuss about heat problem with him, I mentioned this will shorten the lifespan of hard disk inside... He said: "got hard disk inside meh? not sure, maybe other thing...?" |

My comments are totally OT but I felt like saying it.One thing I hv to say about ur comments, u hv been always very consistent in them. While I don't agree with most of what u say, I have to admire ur tenacity and ur vigour in always painting a negative picture of Astro. For that I salute u... |

QUOTE(smileguy @ May 5 2011, 10:58 AM) Bro how can I paint a negative picture,of course the bottom line it shld be factual, I cannot simply accuse someone right, as I hv said its all meant to improve things and the intentions are good, maybe one day it gets thier attention and then things change and evryone is happy and pleased. U're right of course, and this will further take the discussion OT, so if need be let's continue via PM. This is my last say on this matter. However, u need to remember something, Astro is not a charitable organization, their main responsibility to their shareholder is making profit. The fact that there is exclusivity is not their fault. There are authorities that shd oversee that. Exclusivity/special deals/fringe benefits or lock out of competitors are all ways for companies to maximize their chances for survival, however, the correct authorities shd put checks/balances in place to minimize the impact to the people. Still even in advanced countries, it happens. Its no excuse, but it happens. In some countries they legalize such things by calling it lobbying etc...but in ours its not. So companies use other means. Someone shd have said no before. There are some "priviliged" companies that get away with a lot worse. Its a fact. Blaming Astro for is seems like barking up the wrong tree. They do not owe it to anyone to do it, however, its the relevant authorities that hold the licenses rights that shd ensure that the commoners like us are not screwed. Still smileguy, I admire ur resolute posts and u hv been unwavering in ur comments towards them. If only the right people had stopped these before it got this far (in my opinion not Astro) it would have been better. Not perfect becoz there will be still complaints, but better. |
