One of my mate told me how good Eve is as a MMO and I eager to give it a try as one of the reason EVE still live is that the gameplay is so different from those whack-and-level conventional MMORPG.

But I got a few questions on this game I would like to have the feedback from the players itself rather than scanning through the entire website (and also lazy tongue.gif)

1. Is this game designed for casual player ?? I'm a working adult so cant expect me to sit all day long to play this game.

2. If answer is yes for Q1, then would the impact is great to those who play the game in hardcore mode and casual mode ??

3. Anything else that I need to know ??

Thank you and feel free to bash me with info biggrin.gif

Just go get the 14 days trial... not much impact for working adults... it's a real time base game.... u don't have to sit in front of PC whole day doing Hack and Slash just to level UP

First of all, EVE is not using the common lvling method to increase in lvl in order to advance in the game. It uses a system what we call "time-based". In EVE, there is no such thing as how high your char lvl is but rather what IS your skill allocation like.

Secondly, because it's time-based...it automatically makes the game either casual or hardcore. Depanding on your play style, both casual and hardcore playstyle works well in EVE. The diff between hardcore and casual player will boil down to how rich he/she can be and how experience he/she is by doing more stuff in a shorter timeframe as compared to a casual player.

I have alot of friends which is casually playing EVE due to RL activities...they still manage to earn good income and also enjoy the game whenever they play. So don't worry so much if you're concern over the game being played casually. If you love the concept of the game, you'll love it even when played casual or hardcore smile.gif

Well as a fellow working adult I can safely say that Eve is somewhat casual friendly. But as with any game, the more time you spend in game the faster you can achieve what you want.

Also, as Dan T mentioned, I am also 1 of the noobies who just started Eve and I can say that its highly entertaining. Perfect for my time schedule. Log on whenever I can jsut to change skills. Or if I have some extra time, run a few missions, mine a few asteroids, disturb ALL the veteran players that sort of thing... its fun tongue.gif

Apart from that, take the 14 day trial and then see for yourself and then make your own judgements. But as a warning, be prepared to spend the 1st 4 days totally utterly confused. It will be best to find a person you can trust to run you through the game.

client is free d/l from eve-o website http://www.eve-online.com/

however game "can" be free if u got enuff isk to buy GTC (game time code)

for a noob likelihood it is unlikely in first year since u need the skills to get to the more lucrative part of eg. mission running pve

think current rates are something like 400mil-380mil isk for 90day GTC

so basically if u got enuff time to make that can of isk in 90days then consider free loh tongue.gif

This is about RM55 so its quite normal. But I understand if we all not rich like Shaff and Dan T. I also poor man compared to them.

All IMHO.

1. I would say EVE is not for the casual player, BUT is a game for ppl with a working lifestyle with genuine RL matters to attend, eg family, job, etc. I say this because EVE is an indepth game with many things to grasp and understand. EVE does not allow one to simply pick up and drop like say an FPS or a console game. If you have say only 10 hours a week to play games, then yes, EVE can suit u. But if you don't have the time nor stomach to read up and think of things like calculating damage per second, understanding your enemy's capabilities, learning things like resistance tanking, damage types, etc, then your casualness will impact your overall gameplay experience.

2. Like the others have mentioned here, hardcore players spend more time in the game therefore grind more money and learn the ropes alot faster. Casual mode ie a few hours a week, you have alot less money and generally take alot longer to keep pace with hardcore players in terms of what grinding can get you. Many many many things will remain out of your wallet's reach for a long long long time.

3. While EVE sports a time-based skill development system, unlike others like WoW or LotRO where u need to kill and kill to level up a skill or character level, it's not really the entire picture. What time-based skill means is this: for example to fly a ship (hypothetical), you need say level 3 of that skill to fly the ship:

Level 1: Takes 30minutes to train.
Level 2: Takes 3 hrs to train.
Level 3: Takes 14 hrs to train.

What this means is that in 17hrs and 30mins real time, your character will learn Level 3 of that skill. However, because there is no skill queueing, you have to login to change skills after completing Level 1 and Level 2. If you're a working chap on Casual mode without the luxury of logging in whenever you feel like, you're gonna have to put off training this skill until later or train another (longer) skill until u can.

So even if EVE is a time-based system, someone who can be online alot longer and more often will reach Level 3 of that skill alot earlier than you, which again reinforces the Hardcore/Casual dichotomy.

As for playing for "free", EVE allows gamers with some ingame cash to exchange it for real game time. It is possible to be a casual gamer and be able to afford a 90 day pass in 5-6 months' casual gametime, but as with all things, YMMV.

The best thing you can do is download the EVE demo and get a 14-day trial key and give it a shot.

The best part about EVE for me is the broad spectrum of activities a player can do ingame, both to suit hardcore and casual play styles. There's trade, manufacturing, research, PvE combat, pirating, realm vs realm (called null-security combat or nulsec) battles and much much more. As a casual EVE'er (only about 10 hrs per week, straddling other PC games, a job and a family), some of these activities completely suit me, but not all.

If interested should try download the client and try the game. Client's not that big and trial is 14 days which is a pretty good time frame for trial. Anyways I myself and ex-WoW player find this a change away from WoW where its 80% mindless fun of bashing things up xD . In Eve I found it relaxed and does not rush you to 'level up' like other games. You play at your own pace and your skills will still be going at a same rate smile.gif

So take 14 day trial and feel it.

okay... end of public anouncement... back to EVE!
