Mandarin is just another dialect not a language.

Chinese dialects are not mutually intelligible to a certain degree with exceptions of course. Some linguistic scholars have argued that dialects like Min Nan, Hakka and Cantonese should be classified as languages and not dialects.

FYI, Min Nan comprises of Hokkien, Teochew and Hainanese.

Quite but Mandarin has its writing/wording system. Cantonese doesn't. That's why I laughed like shiit at TS's words.

Actually Cantonese does have a writing system...look at Hong Kong SAR.

unfortunately for the other dialects, they will become extinct in a few generations time.

Probably that's new (not to say VERY new) but it came after Mandarin. Not arguing that it isn't a language nor does it not have a proper writing system.

Even Hokkien has 'derived' into many other 'dialects'. Dialect in another dialect. Penang people say "pek mo" (white hair) but around here in KL/Klang, some say "pek meng".

Hello, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien etc. are not languages, they are dialects ok? There's no such thing as "Mandarin" or "Cantonese" or "Hokkien" writing system, there's only Chinese writing.

Mandarin is STANDARDIZED, like ROBOTS.

Cantonese is NOT, allowing MORE CREATIVITY, like HUMANS.

Then you are stupid. Don't you know Hong Kong got their own writing system for Cantonese? There're even words can only be understood if read in Cantonese, if you read it in Mandarin, it wouldn't make sense, but if everyone reads Mandarin, all can understand LOL.

Writing system if formal, it is the same as in standard Chinese writing.

It is different when we speak it, colloquially, such as "唔" instead of "不" in standard Chinese form.

If you speak Cantonese, we always say "mg/唔" instead of "but / 不".

唔 is practically Cantonese.

Read up. I did say Cantonese, Hokkien, etc etc does not have a proper writing system hence it isn't a language. (For those who are gonna say "look at HK", I know now, need not repeat, thank you.)
