Aparah!! but why is your own malay name so inadequate until you need to convert into chinese to make yourself look awesome?be proud of your own malay heritage! |

The documentary said very clearly. If Cantonese were to be declared as official dialect, there will be restrictions imposed in order to make it standardized across the board. There will be almost no creativity involved as it is strictly not allowed.
So, we still can speak and 'improvise' whatever dialect we are proficient in. It's more of a 'street tongue' than nice wordings. I speak both Mandarin and Cantonese rather well, even KL people thought I'm local... last but not least, please don't condemn other dialects. There is a reason (likely historical, albeit unrecorded) that they exist. If you don't understand or maybe the pronunciation doesn't soothe your ears, just ignore it. Like me... p.s. Of course LYN is full of people speaking Cantonese, because most are from KL or influenced by the so-called 'cool' effect of those 80's Hong Kong movies and started to pick it up, like me. |
