Musical speakers if u listen properly goes very deep. Perhaps it lacks the bass attack/quantity you are used to but this sort of speaker can listen for long hours without fatigue.

Also depends on wat genre you listen. For those bassy genre i do think you need a sub.

Like you i just got a hifi speaker for my pc just last sunday and my budget was less than 4.5k. I ended up with a second hand speaker. So keep your mind and ears open. You might get something better.

I think my mistake was going without my own musics cause i only have flac and ape.

And the boss turn up the bass knob when i mentioned i like my music to have more punch. I only realise this later and this gave me a early false impression. Cause tho i like punch, i still want no equaliser to mess up the music.

I tested the Diamond 9.5 and Mission M34i and honestly, i coudnt really tell the difference with such a short audition. But i liked the looks of the Diamond more. If the 9.2 suit your taste than by all means go for it, thats why you MUST bring your own cd and make sure that the shop dont mess around with the bass/treble controls.

Make sure you get an amp that can properly amp it and good cables. I dont know about boutique cables but i believe that there is a difference between chapalang cables and quality cables. Cause i dont have a interconnect yet so i use chapalang cables and it add many noise into the sound. I discover this cause i have use the filter (ferrite clamps) on the cable and notice cleaner sound.

Im using my setup with lossless music on pc.. lol How bout you?

Sorry im not very pro at this as im a newbie trying to help a fellow newbie tongue.gif

Hi guys, can someone recommend me DAC for my hifi for use with pc?

1. RM500 and below.
2. RM1000 and below.

Im using the PSC805 now. Im thinking i want something warm in nature cause my speaker can be a bit fatigue when listen to Female vocal (eg. celtic woman, utada hikaru) and Alternative stuff (Evanescence - Instead of nice, i feel its noisy but i used to blast this on my pc speaker and i dun feel its noisy)

You can try browsing at www.hifi4sale.net, plenty of bargains. Last 2 days i see some 2nd hand speakers selling for 1k and below. Then you need an integrated amp which your STX suppose to connect to. 2k you can do it smile.gif Get bookshelf speakers which is easier to power. Happy hunting.

Begin with speakers, some brands to look for are Wharfedale, Mission, Monitor Audio, Mordaunt-Short, Accoustic Energy, Tannoy, and many others. However those i list down, generally you can get with your budget.

Amps got many cheap 2nd hand. As a guide, entry level brands are like NAD, Marantz, Cambridge Audio, Rotel and many more.

Bs and Fs got their own advantage.

I chose floorstand cos i wanted more bass extention cos i like bass. Doesnt mean that bs dont have bass. Good bs have plenty of bass, question is enuf for you? If you listen a lot of heart hitting bass song, fs would suit you. If vocal, bs will do fine. Also fs needs to be played a bit louder for it to sound full and good compare to bs can do quite listening.

Regard the speakers you mention, have you go and try them yet? Im not sure about KEF but sonus is laid back type sound. This really comes down to your taste.

Monitor Audios are kinda bright for me.

6K budget, why dont try Dynaudio? Join meeeeee ^^

Hi, im from Sarawak so for PG im not familiar... need to ask the PG ppl but i think there has been mention in some thread b4.

Well i guess Dynaudio can be classified as high end speakers. They are known to be one the most sensitive speakers and very musical and forward. Bass is superb. Their entry level bookshelf is about 4k +- and entry level floorstand 10k +-. Mine is the Audience Series which replace by Excite Series. Mine is 2nd hand... i dono how old also or the history but i manage to get it cheaper than a new Diamond 9.5, 2 of the drivers has been repaired, the boss tell me kids poked them. The hifi repairman is well known in town so im told and my friend (owner of few pairs of top range Dynaudio) tested the speaker for me and heard nothing wrong. In fact he was planning to buy them if i didnt. I saw my speaker going for 8.5k at Lowyat plaza.

yes tong lee, but i hear ppl complain tat boss expensive... since u go there... got to sg wang too.. CMY is there also... they are the official distributer. A&L is there also.

Try Dynaudio (Denmark) CMY and Sonus Faber (Italy) Perfect Hifi and Dali (Denmark) A&L. I never try Dali before.

Warning, Dynaudio are very power hungry and need strong amps. smile.gif

Enigmatic, perhaps you can let us know the model you are planning?

Vivikarna, for 5k, i still think go for bookshelf and integrated amp and cdp would suit you. If you have any hifi shop nearby, go and listen is better. Since your an all rounder, i can suggest you search out these brands to try.

CDP and Amp, try look for Marantz or Cambridge Audio or NAD. Amp if you want something in the 60-75 watt, expect to pay around 1.8k or more. 45 watt amps are about 1.5k i think. CDP if you get entry level, 1k or more.

Assume you want a 70watt amp like Marantz PM7001 (RM1850 ish) and a Marantz CD-5003 (RM1k ish), that leaves you with RM2150 balance for speaker and cables.

Brands you can seek out is Wharfedale, Mission, Tannoy, Mourdaunt-Short, Monitor Audio and some others. These are entry level. Cables you maybe can nego with the shop if you buy whole set from them or order from futureshop.co.uk, cheaper most the time.

Hope tis helps. In the end... you have to try. Your taste is unique. You may like more bass or more treble etc. Eg, Wharfedale are know to be warm good for vocals, Monitor Audios are know to be bright, Tannoys have good bass for rock music, etc.
