Hi Guys,

Can anyone recommend me a hifi system? Currently I already have a 5.1 home theather system using Whaferdale Diamond 9.1 speakers with a Denon 3808A receiver and would now like to build a hifi system. Budget is between RM10,000 to RM15,000. I would prefer to use the money mostly on getting a decent CD player, Amp and perhaps better speaker stands and use the diamond speakers for now. But if you can squeeze in new speakers in the budget, I welcome it :-)

I have a few audiophile CDs but prefer pop music (mostly MJ, Madonna, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Toto etc).

What system do you guys recommend or any suggestion on how I go about auditioning the system to my taste?

Hmm, with a healthy budget like tat you can get a lot of choices. My idea is that, you start from speaker and build the system backwards instead of forward like ur intending to, the result will be less harsh and more to your taste. Because i feel you have to find a speaker you like, then find the electronics that synergy with you speaker and taste.

Are you looking for floorstand or bookshelf speaker? Also i have heard the 9.1 before and i feel, if you upgrade ur speaker first, it would have tremendous improvement as 9.1 are entry level speaker.

Speaker brands you mite consider looking at would be Dynaudio DM or Excite Series (im bias here), Sonus Faber Toy Series, Dali, ATC, etc. Hmm but be warned that some of these speaker need beefy amps to drive smile.gif Do more reading on review and go out for demo.

Hope my limited knowledge can help you a bit ha ha..

to me, it seems like a bottleneck product as the guys here are using better sources such as cdp or good soundcards.

Sorry to double-post; I had this in the 2.1 thread but didn't get a reply. I'm kind of a hifi newbie smile.gif

I have a Samsung LED 46" hooked to Astro HD (HDMI), and a SFF PC (also hooked to PC via HDMI). I either watch Astro or more often, watch movies on my PC. I plan to add a Blu-Ray/PS3 to this mix soon.

Anyways I'm looking for a 2.1 solution that I can setup for all of these. Since there might be three input sources I guess I need an amplifier as well?

Can anyone suggest a system that would be ideal for movies with the above setups within budget range of RM 1500? Also the address of any stores since I'm new to MY and don't know all the places to go.

Cheers for any help!

Hey mate,

I'm based in Melaka but can travel anywhere to KL etc. What kind of budget should I be looking at, something closer to RM 3-4K?

Guys, I would like a 2.0 system for my bedroom. I had been eyeing the Denon D-M38DAB and it'll cost me under 2K. But I was wondering if you guys have any recommendations for a 2.0 hi-fi set that can play CDs and radio. Preferably can handle USB plug-ins.

Budget: 2K-2.8K

Thanks.

be careful of matching your system...as yamaha classed as bright side, and monitor audio classed as bright side also...the result will be too clinical or too bright sound which is not comfortable to your ears within 15-30mins...eventhough they get 5 star or "Stereo Speaker of The Year" & "Best Stereo Amplifier up to 500 pound" from what hifi review...trusted your ears better.. smile.gif
