i m planning go get a pair of wharfedale diamond 10.1
can sifu pls recommend a budget amp to pair with it?

i was previously using aego M + prodigy HD2 soundcard
but i sold the aego M and move to korea now

so my requirement is, the amp must be able to get input from my prodigy HD2 sound card. becoz my pc will be my main source of music
(thinking of onkyo A9155, denon PMA510AE, marantz PM5003)

anyway i wanted to ask also
cd player like onkyo cr525, marantz M-CR502, can they work as an amplifier also?
does it take in inputs from prodigy hd2?
becoz i read from the manual, the inputs there mention CD player, tuner, phono only, never mention about PC

sorry for noob questions
thanks

Any of you here planning to go to the hifi4sale mini event at Sunway Giza this Saturday to have a look-see-look-see? hmm.gif From what I read, there will be a demo on computer audio. It will be a good opportunity if you are looking for a bargain setup to start with. And also, can gain more understanding in computer audio. cool.gif

IMHO, none of the above mentioned amp is able to efficiently drive the 6 ohm whafedale 10.1. I am not sure about the prodigy soundcard but i have tried connecting my 2nd hand Audiolab to my Asus Xonar and it works fine (but not ideal coz there is not enough gain and as such, the volume is lower as compared when i connected it a CDP). Tried getting a pre-owned 100 watters (at least a class AB) if you wanted your Whafedale to sing as per the review in Stereophile (actually, the reviewer used a AR Ref 110 to drive the speaker ... so imagine.) Further, you must also know that the Whafedale is a very bright speaker and as such, might required some careful matching as well as tweaking. Enjoy your journey ... wink.gif

If you are ok to settle with a pre-owned bookshelf speakers, then RM300+ can fetch you a decent KEF CODA and it required only an entry level 30 watters amp to drive (might coz you about RM300 to RM500 in the use market). However, if you wanted everything totally new, the only decent (and with potential) entry level speaker below RM1,000 would be the Whafedale 10.1. However, to efficiently drive the whafedale, you might need to spend 'a bit' on the amp if again you wanted a new one. Of course, there are plenty of alternative besides the Whafedale if you are willingly to spend slightly more ... i.e. more decently price brand name like Mission, Harbeth or maybe even an entry level dynaudio. But then again, it all depends on your budget, music preferences and the level of 'addictiveness' biggrin.gif

Dynaudio is much more power hungry than 10.1 and he would have to spend a lot more on amp.. smile.gif

Guys I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I plan to upgrade my living room with surround system.

I have in my mind Onkyo Receiver TX-NR509/609
http://www.cresdo.com/tvsaudioskaraoke/rec...s/product/19810

I already set aside the budget approximately RM2-3k for the receiver.

Despite NR609 being able to support 7.2 channel. I only intend on going for 5.1 system for the time being.

How much should I spend to get a decent full range speaker to be used on the 509/609?

Another question, if I fix 5.1 to 609 although it has 7.2 input, can I toggle it to 5.1 mode?

My dad is an avid fan of Onkyo.. so I'm wondering if there are any Onkyo models you guys can suggest?

Thanks !

Bro,

I m selling my Ortofon 7.8n (Made in japan) interconnect...

Thanks.

Thanks for everybody replies.

I am back from KL trip and bring back only Marantz 5400 CD player for my yamaha av receiver which is 4 year old in my living room. They sounds great with my rm300 japanese interconnect with JBL speaker. They sounds ok since the living set are not meant for serious sounds.

Check the one utama for nad, the cd player is sold out and the c352 cost rm1600 for old stock/display set which i found is not worth for the money. (since kef shop from aldephi is only only SGH 750++ for new set). They are asking for rm2000 for nad c352 and 542 cdp sepately which add up 4000+ in total.

One great news is that i got the chance to listen to epos m12.2 (around 2.6k) really sounds good. To my ear, it even sounds better than paradigm studio 20. m12.2 just sounds natural but too back it is currently out of stock.

I had listen b&w 602 and paradigm studio 20 and monitor audio b2, they are just ok and to my ear, some are not very natural regardless they are paired with tube-amp/arcam solo/integrated amp and good interconnect/speaker cable.

Just my opinion only and nothing more.

Will thinking to get epos m12.2 and listen to m5.

And I will not believe what-hifi and take it as a guideline, and use my ear as the final judgement.

Anyone know any good interconnect for cd player and subwoofer?
