frankly, i'll prefer Yamaha if between Onkyo & Yamaha biggrin.gif my old AV Yamaha has been up and running for 15 years .. yet still good & strong.
Now i am using a v1800. thumbup.gif

if you really likes to listen to music then i 'll advise you to get an amp for music ONLY likewise Naim Nait, Audio Cambridge, Audio Research, Jadis, Mcintosh and many others. its so much more musical & sounded more mellow.

My recommendation for best bang for the buck set-up :

CD transport : any cheapo DVD player with digital output
DAC : DIY Paradise Monica 3
Passive Preamp : Promitheus Audio TVC
Amp : T-amp like Trends Audio TA 10 or DIY Paradise Charlize 2
Speaker : High efficiency speaker like Loth x BS1

This will give you a taste of the high end at slightly more than RM 5 K

bose22, yes for the DAC, passive preamp and T-amp (using old Celestion DL8 Series 2 for speakers and entry level NAD for the CD transport). The Malaysian made DIYParadise and Promitheus Audio products are truly superb and seriously outperforms any similarly priced competitors out there.

hi,

am planning to get an av receiver, stereo speakers and subwoofer mainly for gaming and watching hd movies. i plan to connect ps3, xbox 360 and pc to the av receiver so i need one with at least 3 hdmi ports.

i have visited two shops in amcorp and i was recommended:

shop 1:
denon 1909 av receiver - rm2800
mezzo 2 standmount speakers - rm2200
yamaha YST-SW515 subwoofer - rm1200

shop 2:
cambridge audio azur 640r - rm4.2k
ae neo series 1 speakers 1200
ae neo sub subwoofer- rm2200

i understand i am not comparing apple to apple but i didn't have much time to browse today and i plan to mix and match. also, i plan to get rear speakers later for a surround system but right now i rather spend more money on a good pair of speakers and subwoofer.

any suggestion is most welcome.

thanks.

hi everyone,

newbie here, i am thinking to replace my broken harmon/kardon hk695 speaker with aego m or a pair of bookshelf speaker.

I have an aging Proton Integrated Amplifier AM-452, so with a budget of around rm700, should i just settle for AE Aego M or consider a pair of bookshelf speaker to pair with the old amplifier? I listen music mainly form pc or ipod.

Any advice?

Onkyo 606 , previously i see many units in Harvey Normal, Ikano.
perhaps you can check out there.

Onkyo 606 is belong to Home Threatre system, i don't think its ideal for HiFi Stereo for music enjoyment.

high as in ? previously i was quoted roughly estimated rm2600-2800.
i think yr best bet will be Harvey Norman or SenQ as i don't see it easily available anywhere else.
