I dont think this will gve bad reputation to BB
*
any product recall will, no to BB, but RIM as a whole... especially when it was not launched not too long ago...

gives the impression that RIM dun know how to make tablets... and dun forget there are many other business oriented tablets grabbing the market...

Nothing problem if pushing the product too fast if they can rectify as soon as possibe, especially OS itself.
*
there is still a problem...

didn't they test properly before releasing it? that's the question that ppl will ask...

moreover RIM is not some small start up company... they re one of the largest hardware and software maker who has existed for a long time...

u may argue that it's the first time they make a tablet... but i dun remember Apple, Motorola, Samsung etc flopping up their iPad 1, Xoom and Galaxy Tab like this as well... (but Apple flopped iPhone 4 tongue.gif)

hardware problem will always have a serious implication, unlike software which u can juz update it quietly and act as if nothing has happened...

Asus and Acer will release Android 3.1 OTA updates in early June for Transformer and Iconia A500... the first to get it after Xoom...

no exact date is given though...

http://thisismynext.com/2011/05/17/asus-ac...droid-3-1-june/

this is really fast, considering they are not Google Experience devices... looks like Asus and Acer are determined to make a big footprint in the Android tablet market...

Woohooo! June update to 3.1!

I just wish Acer would put in more advertising for the Iconia A500. It truly is an amazing machine - the ability to play media on my 320gb HDD via USB is priceless. Now hopefully the apps will come...
*
but think the other way... less marketing = less cost... laugh.gif

QUOTE(yop da great @ May 18 2011, 03:57 PM)
I'm afraid that's not going to be possible due to the usb power limit of the tablet..it might not be enough to spin a real hdd.. even if it could, it will draw too much power from ur tablet
*
2.5" HDD should not be a problem at all...

but with microSD slot, do we still really want to attach a HDD to it? laugh.gif

dual microphones
dual band 802.11n (i suppose this mean 2T2R)
weights as much as Xoom (ie 1.5lb)

seem like Dell never lead or fast R&D/release new model in mobile/tablet.
Steak 7 not selling here, guess what's the reason?
Steak Pro will become once of hotcake?  hmm.gif  hmm.gif  hmm.gif
*
hard to say... they re not the first to ve business tablets... Galaxy Tab 8.9, Flyer, PlayBook, juz to name a few...

all depends on the accessories and services that come with it...

Not all laptops are as portable and as cheap as the Eee Pad Transformer?  hmm.gif
*
corrected... laugh.gif

granted it costs more than a basic netbook, but factor in the price of standalone software in Windows, and compared that against Android apps, u re getting a pretty good deal with Transformer...

for a start Asus has pre-installed a paid office suite in Transformer...

couple that with >10hrs of battery run time... i would get one if i dun ve the MBA...

imho both re juz around the same, it really boils down to optimization... and Apple is doing a better job in this area, while Google is open so u ve all sorts of hardware that goes with Android...

but seriously, the Samsung Exynos is way better than Apple A5 and NV Tegra 2...

In what situation you want to use your transfomer? Are you carry it together with the docking anywhere? If you carry it together, what different with carry your laptop? hmm.gif

You not typing few pages of word on your pad. That you leave it to your laptop do the job.

The USB port is usefull. But not to extend the cost and got to carry it with additional weight.

Not sure the pad is worth, but if the spec is good?
*
my experience with Galaxy Tab, is that it's heaps lighter than carrying a laptop, while offering much more screen estates to read documents and websites than a smartphone...

top that off with integrated 3G modem and u can literally access the Internet as and when u like it...

the dock itself is really up to u... personally i would really like to ve it... the virtual keyboard can be a pain in the ass to type even if u re juz giving a short reply in forums... granted there are alternatives like Swype, but i dun really like it... and u can juz detach it and leave it in ur bag while using only the tablet alone

the dock has additional features like full USB ports, extra battery and 5-in-1 card reader, which imho ss Asus' attempt to make it more netbook like...

Transformer is designed to replace a netbook if u ask me... for a start Asus has a full office productivity suite pre-installed in it...

So this transformer is your netbook/laptop and not a pad to you. hmm.gif
*
it can double up as a tab and netbook... Motorla Atrix has a smilar concept, smartphone + dock...

take it out when u re merely reading documents and web pages, and put it back when u need to do ur work...

also think of the apps (free ones especially) that u can install in Android...

I have experience with your situation. But no need dock at all. It more easy to carry just the pad.
*
all i can say is, at times u will juz wish u ve a keyboard to do the typing...

that's my conclusion after owning Android devices...

anyway, at the end of the day, it's ur own preference... personally i am between Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Transformer...

I don't see any difficult typing on the pad. Just spaming a few word in LY here is easy with just the pad. smile.gif  As long as not typing a few pages words.

So far my experience, when I at home, most of the time is using laptop. If at the bed, than the pad. In ths situation, the dock is really useless.

If going out for a breakfast or coffee, just bring the pad. Sit down having my coffee while surf/video/read on my pad.  thumbup.gif If feel like spam at here, just type a few word. Again, in this situation, the dock is useless.
*
honestly speaking, when comes to typing on virtual keyboard, i prefer doing so on my Desire than Galaxy Tab... lay it horizontally and i can type with my 2 thumbs on my Desire, but u can never do that with a tab...

as i said, it's down to personal preference... as a uni student i pretty much wants to ve the dock... makes doing my work much more easier... but if it's for someone like my dad who basically only reads news and watch the stock, then yes, a dock is redundant...

Android for free apps... laugh.gif

anyway if u re saying that iOS has "quality" apps then u may want to reconsider, since there are many platforms to convert iOS apps into Android ones...

while we are at it a hard reset is all needed if do infected to viruses right ?

Full factory reset, settings>privacy>factory data reset.

yes, but that also mean clearing ur Gmail accounts, ur apps, ur saved settings, etc...

there are virus scanners around, but still, common sense is all that u need...

this is the most destructive virus in Android to date: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology...r-secutiry.html while it can be downloaded from Market, most of the infected users downloaded it from shady Chinese sites... i trust only 2 places to download apps, Android Market and Amazon Appstore...
