It all depends on what you shoot the most. It's not like 'oh, I dun have telephoto lens so get telephoto lens lah'.

What's the use if you get a telephoto lens and then find that 90% of the time the lens stays in your dry box?

If you are shooting and you always, always wish that you can get a wider view, then you need a wide angle lens. If you shoot and always, always wish that you can go more telephoto range then you need a telephoto lens.

If you shoot with your 50mm and feel that you need just a bit wider to get your framing right then you may want to check out the 30mm or 35mm.

If you always wish to have a great portrait lens then you can check out the 85mm or 135mm lens.

If you always want macro then check out some macro lenses.

If you still do not know what lens to get then shoot more until you know.

For me I have 20mm lens because I like wide angle for landscapes and travel. No money to afford the 24mm Zeiss so make do with a 20mm first lor but now I'm starting to love the 20mm and dunno if I can sell it off later for the 24mm Zeiss.

I have a 50mm because it is my walkabout lens on my A850. I can shoot almost anything on my 50mm and sapu the lowlight situation without flash also. I don't do macro so no worries on that department.

I have a 85mm lens for portraits now because I like the way it feels.

Do I need a longer telephoto? Not at the moment. Will I miss the telephoto range? Not if I shoot the way I shoot now. So I'm immune to any poisons from the 70-200mm or 70-300mm or 300mm lenses. flex.gif

Do you know why you have your lenses? If you do then you'll be immune to almost all poison except for those lenses that you know you need. smile.gif

during the convention, we tested the 70200 HSM (sigma) and when test the 70200G, the speed of the SSM is farrrrrrrrrrr more faster then HSM, it made HSM seem so slow. and due to the sigma's quality sharpness only start at F4 (shoot an event with it, F2.8 is crap) i rather go for tamron even it's claimed slow(website review usually gotten canon/nikon test unit, which has lousy built in motor), but sony's A mount uses screw driven, and newer body somehow focuses faster (some friend claim the beercan runs faster on A55/580 vs older body)
*
70-200 HSM slow meh? tongue.gif I thought you were testing the focus speed of the lens on A580 and A55 body? which resulted A55 being significantly more faster!!! (Poison!!) About the sharpness, most of my indoor photos was taken at ISO1600 @F2.8, but still look sharp ler.....<--(I'm not Sigma fenbui ah....!). May be I got the better unit. sweat.gif sweat.gif

According to reviews, Sigma is sharp wide open from 80 to 135mm, after that it softens pretty badly d... Especially at 200mm. Maybe you can take some test pics and share it with us tongue.gif

Joe, its so obviously slower then Ssm, and like what yuhi said, after 100mm it became soft, at f4 then only acceptable, what's the diff spending in beercan f4? but my justification is weak coz I using C-zai to shoot during my experience with the sigma.... Without IS/VC is very bad idea even I have a steady hand!

Ehh, Wanna know all of yr opinions. If it was a choice for you, would you pick 70200G or 70400? Its extra 200mm(ALOT) but not constant aperture.

again... depends on what ur gonna shoot... if u need the 2.8 (im assuming its 2.8 for the 70200), then the choice is obvious... if u dont need the large aperture then clearly the 70400 would be more beneficial.

Yah. The 70400 is F4-5.6.

So the 70200 + 2x TC (70400) can be F2.8-5.6 drool.gif

But its more expensive by 1k. sweat.gif
