Added on April 3, 2011, 2:59 pmActually I'm not sure I need to get i7 or not.
My job dealing with desktop & web application programming, those Java, C++, PHP, ASP and so on...

I play some online game such as Rappelz & AIKA, but would like to play some game eg. Need for Speed etc, Resident Evil.. dunno graphic Nvidia 540 enof or not ><
*
a general rules of thumb is: "if u are not sure if u gonna need the speed (or i7 in this case), just buy it"

in other words, only not buy it if u r sure u dont need it... brows.gif

I've already done that. The cores go up to 84 degrees max when running Halflife 2 on GPU recommended setting.

nice! there is lacking of temperature info in this thread...

but 540M probably wont even sweat if just running Halflife 2 (2004) laugh.gif

This laptop seems really good from what I've read. Does anyone have any idea if it'll be able to play games like Starcraft 2 on a high setting?
*
high setting = no problem, should get 40-60 FPS, ultra setting should get 30-50 FPS? just estimation...

just got back from PC Fair. i brought along a thumb drive with Heaven Benchmark, 3dMark11, CPUID Hardware Monitor... was hoping to see how the CPU and GPU temperature after running those benchmark...

The staff over there are nice enough to allow me to install and run it, but unfortunately, I cant get CPUID Hardware Monitor to show nVidia GPU temperature! I tried a couple of things, including

1. "Enable select graphic" in nVidia menu, then, right click Hardware Monitor to use nVidia
2. Select the default to be nVidia
3. Add Hardware monitor binary in the nVidia menu

All not working... yawn.gif How exactly to get the temperature??? Fed up, i went up to Sensonic booth...

I'm running it to play Bioshock on high setting. After 30 minutes:
GPU: 62°C
Core1: 81°C
Core2: 82°C
*
yes, this is damn good info. and the temp is really nice. 62C is really cool. i play Bioshock on my XPS before, the graphic is impressive for 2007 game, i was especially impress by the reflection on the water during the plane crash. looking forward for more post from you. notworthy.gif

remonx : not really sure about that.

guys, for those interested in 4830tg like me please do more research. especially the battery that can tahan long time. totally crap. that is just marketing strategy. so dont take that as an advantage.

the laptop can only last longer than normal laptop for bout 20 minutes maybe. but not 8 hours. 8 hours is on standby mode. from what my friend experienced on his 4820tg timeline series. his laptop manage to last for 3 hours. not 8 hours -.-
*
it depends on your usage, if you set to Discrete graphic all the time, battery die fast. My experience:

Battery life:
No wifi, light usage: 8 hours
Wifi, light browsing: 6 hours
Gaming: 2 hours max
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1606856

Other owners experience:

"Best experience using 4820tg while working.. The battery can hold up from 9am-6pm with 6-cell battery on WiFi mode."
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1606856/+200#entry37739753

"wow i dont know how u all can make it last that long. mine only 5-6 hours max. if the screen is too dark i cant see very well, must at least add 2-3 lvl of brightness only can see clearly"
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1606856/+220#entry37750121

"Turn on ATI display card (High Perfomance Mode) is around 3+- hours with playing games, if turn on Intel on Board display card (Save Mode) can be stand for 6+ hours."
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1606856/+980#entry39113974

"Just thinking to share the experience on my 3820TG during CNY. Using intel graphic to watch movie and internet surfing, the battery can last until 7 hours with lowest brightness setting. Using internet in Hong Kong airport while waiting the flight for 3.5 hours and watching movie in the plane for 3.5 hours..."
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1606856/+1520#entry40035741

"well i dont even know how to get 6 hours. mostly my battery only can last 3-4 hours (5 is seldom). how many hours do i need to charge to get full battery by the way (from ~5%)"
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1606856/+140#entry37671269

"Anyone install latest ATi graphic card driver for this laptop?Any problems?Set my laptop 4820TG to discrete card only couldn't bothered with the integrated Intel vid chip, still average 4 hours plus (mid level brightness,5 min display timeout/(balance power setting)) on battery power. Never regretted getting this laptop;)"
