@mudster: please let Hardware Monitor / GPU-z running while playing game, still hope to see Max Temp after 30 minutes of gaming. ^^ Got your previous post GPU around 60C, that's really cool. More temp posting please.

How's the speaker of this lappy? So many positive comments on the web!!

want to see a negative comment?

http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/laptop...nbb-nkrt-1389/4

and i google translate the temperature part:

"Throttling
However, only in the first runs, which are included in the standings. After about 5-6 Benchmark routines enters the throttling of the CPU, which lingers with a reduced clock to 1.2 GHz. Throttling is a prerequisite for the required Nvidia Geforce GT 540M. In reaching the CPU temperature of 90 ° C, the clock is reduced and released again until 65 ° C below. That will happen during prolonged usage not the cooling capacity is too weak despite lower power consumption. To use the full cycle again, you have to calculate / game to be interrupted. During the decelerating phase creates the Acer 4830TG in World in Conflict is only about 2 / 3 of the actual frame rate."

However, I will not believe if just 1 review, moreover, i didnt really know to what extend they stress test it. I am more confident if reading reviews from notebookcheck.net. This notebook is too new, I am still waiting for more reviews from owners as well...

But hey, that's just 1 area of the notebook, if you look at others, they are all positive.

Added on April 28, 2011, 7:16 pmIs it possible to overclock the GPU? for example OC 540m to 550m frequency. Any software can do that?
*
Sure can. Use Rivatuner or NVIDIA System Tools. To 'become' 550m, simply push your core speed from 672MHz to 740MHz. Some 540m owner from here can reach a stable 800/1050. Try slowly push towards that, and watch out for the temperature! Run furmark or some benchmarking tools, watch out for artifacts...

About monitoring the temperature, those benchmarking tools usually need fullscreen, but when i want to see the temperature i have to alt+tab to desktop and look for HWmonitor, the temperature will still keep as that or will suddenly fall down since I already switch to desktop?
*
it usually will go down if you ALT-TAB. most benchmarking tool also include its temperature, like the Furmark, so you dont need to ALT-TAB.

even if you have to ALT-TAB, just watch out for MAX temperature, which does not affected by temperature drop...

@kelvin_ng: your stock 3dmark06 at 1280x768 seem a bit low. Have you install new 270 driver?

Actually when not using Nvidia GPU and the CPU in idle right, the CPU temp is around 55C and GPU temp is 46C. I didn't use any cooler pad at the time. So is it consider ok for idle?
*
55°C is high if idle. most likely because you have just stressed it and it take times to cool down. should be around 4X°C in idle, without cooler. GPU idle temp looks normal. I OC both my CPU and GPU to get 10388 in 3dmark06 at 1280x768.

This is the condition when idle... Just noticed the Max CPU temp and shocked...  blink.gif

That's OC temperature and being stressed with benchmarking tool right? It considerably better than 3830tg when being stressed (no OC):

- running Prime95, Aida64, furmark, max CPU=91°C, GPU=93°C doh.gif

http://acer.it168.com/thread-1478960-1-1.html

At least you dont have throttling issues which was reported by notebookjournal on 4830tg and 5830tg.

Another torture test on OCed GPU @ 809/1013.

WOW! the temperature is really nice. even OC and stressed for 1 hour: CPU 84°C, GPU 80°C. this beats all benchmarks i have seen! thumbup.gif with these temp, i think you can keep the OC all the time, if u chose to do so....

keep those info coming, lots of people need to know...

Well, I took an official brochure for 4830TG from an Acer retailer recently. In the brochure, there's a brief description about this lappy. Here is the extract of the description:
"Pre-installed with Windows 7 Home Premium, Aspire TimelineX 4830 gives you super long battery life which can withstand up to 4 years' heavy duty use, more vibrant and richer surround sound effects"

According to the description, the battery for this lappy will last up until 4 years of usage. Is that mean the life span of this lappy is up until 4 years only (since the battery cannot be removed and changed)? hmm.gif
*
just 'relax' when u see something like that on brochure / marketing slide.. (i mean dont take it too seriously). if they are serious, why the battery dont have 4 years warranty? anyway, i think the internal battery is really a more durable type, offering up to 1000 charge cycles, whereas normal lithium ion battery is around 300-500 charge cycles. the normal charge cycles only apply to 'normal' usage. when your notebook is under fire (i mean high temperature during gaming, etc), it will reduce it's capacity FOR SURE.

i still remember a damn insightful info sent by Altrafield (apparently he sells durable battery), even if u have 500 cycles, chances are, it will lost most of its capacity after 150-300 cycles, and I qoute:

"The data I collected base on battery send by my customers' original battery is normally 150-300 cycles."

On another news, Acer acknowledges throttling problem with (some?) of it's x830tg notebook:

http://translate.google.com/translate?lang...elung-nkst-3019

I recommend for your guys to test it out for yourself to see if you are affected. Apparently, it will only throttle if you push both the CPU and GPU. May be you can try run Furmak + Prime95 for 15 minutes, check its temperature and CPU speed using HWMonitor...

finally, a review from notebookcheck.com on the new TimelineX. it's on the 5830tg:

http://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-Acer-Asp...ok.52430.0.html

They also discovered 'immature' throttling issue; it starts to throttle when you push both CPU and GPU.

Lack of proper forum to discuss this, I am posting it here:

Finally a review on 3830tg from NotebookCheck.net:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Acer-A...ok.54641.0.html

Interesting qoute:

"What surprises us

How can a notebook whose selling point is clearly its performance get past beta-testing and make it onto the market with such a handicap to it's speed. "

I am wondering why there is no max temperature CPU and GPU in that article... hmm.gif

like mykomputer said, if u use 32 bit os even if u install 8gb you'll see only 4gb available. But saw in mag of forum i think u can mingle wif register so that os recognised all 8gb drool.gif  but tis need to confirm.
*
it could be trick to make it 'display' 8GB, but you will not be able to utilize 8gb. if tweaking registry can use all 8gb, the whole world has been just cheated with all new reign of 64 bit OS. sweat.gif

RM1999 is a steal! its even cheaper than the 3820TG which i brought at RM2100 (recently). as much as i dont like 3830tg (single fan only), at this price, this is a good buy...
