Leaked prices for Windows Vista (in Canadian dollar, exchange rate to RM is around 1 to 3.3)
http://www.msfn.org/comments.php?shownews=18159

There won't be much difference to the current WinXP prices, not sure about the OEM price yet but I guess they will be much cheaper smile.gif

Many program still seems to have compatibility issue, especially Symantec's and Ahead Nero. Hope this will be resolved soon
*
Yes, a couple of Antivirus are not compatible to Win Vista as well.

It is likely that those software will come out with new version to be able to work in the new OS.

can anyone recommend me a working virtual drive for 64bit OS?
*
DAEMON Tools 4.0.3 X64 is said to be working with Windows Vista 64bit, although I have never tried it.

guess what guys..
i'm running vista 32 bit version rite now from my old rig..
AMD Athlon XP 1.15 Ghz.
1gb ram
Ati 9200 se

only some time lag so far..and cannot run more than 24 hours without restarting the system coz after that the system will start lagging..

so, vista can even run in old rig..just no hardcore memory eater program n extreme 3d games..

cheers..just wanna share my experience..
*
Your specs are probably not good enough for Aero (due to your processor and graphic card)

If you're to use Vista I'd suggest you to get a new rig altogether or just stick with WinXP

Ok.. i have some confusions and questions need to be answered before i proceed to install windows vista..

lets say i still want to maintain my xp and want to install vista on my another partition.. so i will have 2 windows... what about the software compatibility? If i have bitdefender in xp... and in vista is totally different right? I mean all those software in xp wont affect vista?? I'm worried abt this.. i'm afraid of software conflicts.. lol
*
So now I'm confused with your question..but i guess it might be one of these

1. Do you mean do all your software installed in your Windows XP partition will affect your operation in your Windows Vista partition? The answer is NO, they are working as two completely seprate entities. So you don't have to worry about conflict or all those things.

2. Do you mean whether the software used to work on your WinXP are compatible to WinVista as well? The answer is not necessary. They are some compatibility issues wherein some software can't work properly in WinVista. For RC1 compatibility list, please refer here
http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/Wind...patibility_List

Hope it helps.

Next generation Vista applications set to debut
QUOTE
Look out for a new generation of applications for Windows Vista that have never been seen before, from well-known companies like the New York Times and The North Face to smaller firms like Electric Rain. Nvidia launched on November 8 its first DirectX 10 graphics card for Vista, which Jim Allchin, the co-president of Microsoft's platforms and services division, says he has been playing with in Microsoft's Lab.

"It is just mind blowing when you couple it with Windows Vista," he says. Known as the GeForce 8800 GPUs, Nividia says these are the world's first to support Microsoft DirectX 10, the next-generation programming interface that will be introduced withVista.

Allchin also makes some pretty sweeping claims about Vista, like that the gaming experience users get with Vista will go beyond any of the gaming consoles and anything that has been done before. Guess we'll just have to wait and see on that one!

vLite - vista version of nLite
http://www.vlite.net/index.html

QUOTE
Windows Vista from Microsoft takes a lot of resources, we all know that. So here is the tool for easy removal of unwanted components and bootable ISO creation in order to make Vista run faster and to your liking.

This tool doesn't use any kind of hacking, all files and registry entries are in their original form and protected as they would be if you install the full version only without the components you select for the removal.

It configures the installation directly, before the installation, meaning you'll have to remake the ISO and reinstall it. This method is much cleaner, not to mention easier and more logical than doing it after installation on every reinstall.

would like to ask, is 1.5gb differs a lot from 2gb using vista?

my current winxp maximum usage is less than 768MB, major task is typing, surfing, music & chatting, i doubt is 1.5gb vista similars to 768mb winxp?

if possible will like to save some budget for other stuff smile.gif
*
I'd suggest you to go for 2GB RAM (as there's possibility for you to run a lot of applications at any one time)

If your tasks are merely non-gaming stuff, you can probably safe some bucks by buying a mid-range graphic card instead of high-end ones.

Warning for Wifi-ers?
QUOTE
Users running Windows Vista on laptops may see batteries draining faster than they expect, Microsoft said in a warning, because some wireless access points aren't configured to take advantage of the new operating system's Wi-Fi power-saving mode. In a recent post to Microsoft's official Vista blog, senior product manager Jason Leznek spelled out the company's last-minute decision to change the default power setting of wireless adapters to "maximum performance."

"Test results from Microsoft and our customers show that some Windows Vista beta users experienced connectivity problems when connecting to public Wi-Fi hotspots," wrote Leznek in his post. "In many cases, the root cause of the problem is access point or router hardware which is not compatible with the 802.11 power save protocol."

Rather than leave the wireless access card in "power save" mode -- which reduces battery drain by periodically putting the card to sleep -- Microsoft switched the default to a more power-intensive mode, one usually reserved for times when the laptop is connected to AC power, Leznek noted.
