readyboost doesn't work for me even though i have a car that's 2gb 45x speed. neither do my USB keys. says "the device is plugged into an unsupported interface" any ideas or anyone experience this?
*
Your 2GB car? o_O What's the brand of your USB drive?

It works with my 1GB Kingston Data Traveler, whether or not it helps increase performance is another story completely smile.gif

Hello guys,

I've come out with my very own review on Windows Vista Home Premium in Spherebox
http://spherebox.com/2007/02/01/review-mic...a-home-premium/

While the review is not as "full on" as others that you could easily find it online, it does give my own neutral and original opinions. Please feel free to give comment.

Thanks :-)

OEM can be installed on any computer or not?
*
Nope, only for new computer only.

You can install it on any computer, but installing it in an used computer isn't supposedly legal

OEM needs to be activated too. Everytime you format your PC, of course it has to be re-activated again.

During the first time you install on a used PC, i don't think MS knows that it is NEW or OLD, but during your activation, your hardware info will be submitted to MS, and if MS detects in second activation that you're using different hardware, activation will fail.

Then, how about retail? even the hardware changed, it still can be activated without any problem?

You are right

Read the retail License terms here

The retail pack looked cooler than I saw from the web. But I've never regretted getting a OEM since I got my new rig, I'm entitled to it and it's more than 50% cheaper, that's it.

What do I get for OEM? will I be able to get all the features? I interested if the price is 50% cheaper.
*
You get all the features. Yes. It's just like your retail version but with different license term.

I'm not going to list out all the details, but here's the highlight

- OEM is only distributed / pre-installed on a new PC. It's not legal to install it on a used PC.

- Once you activated your OEM Vista, the hardware information will be sent to Microsoft. If you intend to activate it on a different machine, the activation will fail. In contrast, for retail, the license can be transferred from one machine to another (be it new or old).

- For OEM, the support is provided by the vendor/PC manufacturer. For retail, the support is provided by Microsoft.

Anyways, I've posted some footage of the launch event here smile.gif

If me not mistaken, we can transfer the license of the retail vista from one PC to another but we cannot do that with OEM.
Is that true?
Means the OEM of vista is tied to the mobo, but OEM of XP dun tied to anything, can transfer whenever however we want.

Quoted from AnandTech.
Almost had myself getting OEM of Home Premium >_<
But the retail version of Home Premium is almost RM1k~!
*keep using the ahem Vista Oltimate b4 found a cheaper Home Premium*

EDIT: Wrong quote tag.
*
So confirmed already the price of retail Home Premium is 1k?

If you want to get cheaper retail, get it in software exchange
http://www.softwareexchange.com.my - the price is RM892 for now

Go beyond Vista.

It's time to get a Mac. If you're thinking of upgrading to Vista, you'll
probably need a new computer. Why not get a Mac? It's simpler, more secure,
and way more fun. And it works with the stuff you already have, like
printers and cameras. So before you upgrade anything, you owe it to yourself
to check out a Mac.

Btw, anyone use SuperFetch aka Readyboost? How much improvement gained?
*
Using Ashampoo 6.40 now without any problem, will upgrade to 6.50

Prefer it over nero actually tongue.gif

I think my question yerterday still unanswered.. do we need to deactivate the current cd-key before we uninstall vista? if not can it be used to activate in new pc next time?? for retail version only of course..
*
You can install it on a new PC, as long as you've uninstalled (or format) vista from the existing PC, there's no such thing as "De-activate" AFAIK

Beware of upgrade pack though, it must be done under a system with XP installed.

But workaround exists

I have a question,

I've already place an order for an express upgrade from Acer, but I didn't put my'State/Province' there because there is no textfield for it, just the City and the Country,

will it have a problem with the shipping later?

Thank you.
*
You might need to contact Acer with regard to this

Found it online:

The official consumer launch of Windows Vista has brought with it a great deal of confusion, misinformation, and some fairly ignorant assertions. Windows expert Deb Shinder debunks some of the misconceptions she's been hearing, from exaggerated cost and hardware requirements to feature limitations and compatibility issues.

Good article.

But I've merged it with the pinned thread as there are way too many Vista threads around

Even if it's indirect one, I'll still give you a 10% warning. If you repeat it again, don't blame me for suspension
