Yea, this is just a hypothetical situation, haha. I'm just being asked what to do in order to achieve LAM Part II recognition for graduates of non-recognized school. There is one more thing I would like clarified. In "4.0. Common Paths to Studying Architecture" I see LAM Part I and Part II exam listed in the chart.

So basically:
4.0 Chart's LAM Part I exam=Part I & II exam on LAM's website and
4.0 Chart's LAM Part II exam=Part III on LAM's website   ??

Unfortunately I'm getting myself confused with the whole Part I, II and III categories.. sweat.gif  Also thanks a bunch for taking time to answer my question  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
the chart's part I and II corresponds to LAM's parts I and II.
the part III exam is not featured in my chart. it is only eligible AFTER 2 years of practice as graduate architect.

What do you mean by difference? I was told i could do either Diploma in Interior Architecture and then do my degree in architecture at taylor's or somewhere else as the classes are very alike.
*
both programmes are about design. however, both are focusing at a different scale. in interior design, the design is pretty much defined by the kind of architecture that was given to u. u dont deal a lot on structures or social issues of the users. in architecture, u have to deal with everything. the scope and depth are bigger.

credit transfers wont make much difference because there are many more things that u havent learned or covered in interior design diploma that has to be covered in order to proceed in architectural degree. so in the end, u might be transferring a semester's worth of credit at most, but not enough to skip a whole year.

Ah ok i see. So referring to the chart, if one does their Part I studies in an accreditated university but does their Part II at an unaccreditated university,  then he/she only has to take the Part II test and need not take the Part I examination? Also, what is usually tested in these exams?
*
yes. u will only take part II if ur part I is already accredited. or in cases where people study both parts I and II overseas, they can just finish off straight from part I to part II and only comeback to sit for the exam ONCE.

usually they will look into what u have done during ur studies (studio projects) and if those have covered all that needs to be covered according to LAM requirements. if it fulfills and u manage to answer their questions (in interview format), then u get the license. if u fail, then u will do the design project exercise (about 3-4 months) and then sit for the exam again.

QUOTE(horngguan @ Mar 9 2015, 02:42 AM)
alright, thank you very much. I will be enrolling in Diploma In Interior Architecture at Segi College and then proceed to pursue my degree in Architecture as segi do not offer degree in architecture but only degree in INTERIOR architecture smile.gif
*
why not opt for diploma in architecture at other places? i mean in regards of architecture education, polytechnic diplomas are highly commended as compared to IPTS diploma. means better chance of getting into IPTAs for degree, and cheaper as well.

Can i know whether taylors or ucsi architecture program  is better?
*
One thing u need to understand about architecture education is, it's hard to be objective. What does "better" mean? Do u measure by how many times their students won a competition? Or which curriculum is more thorough? Or which university has higher employability rate?

These things change over time. Both are relatively new schools, but both are accredited with LAM part 1. So literally u cant go wrong with any of the two.

"minimal" is quite a dangerous word in this context. it's true, the amount of physics knowledge is lesser, but not by minimizing all that u learn. of all the chapters one would learn in form 4, 5 and STPM/matrics, architecture only requires aspects of forces and load distributions quite thoroughly, but everything else are just add-ons.

is this chart telling that UiTMSpace will not have part time architecture anymore?  cry.gif

Or pending for new course structure only?  unsure.gif
*
the chart only shows the relevant and current paths. it does not show future or anything that hasnt set in stone yet.

basically at the moment UTM SPACE is not taking anymore students into the B.Arch programme. but in the future it will reopen not for B.Arch but for BSc.Arch (part 1). the part time M.Arch programme (part 2) will be run by school of postgraduate studies (SPS).

QUOTE(acap17 @ Mar 28 2015, 10:05 AM)
Hello mr azarimy

Since UK universities arent so picky about CGPA when it comes to enrolling new students for MArch programmes, how about local scholarships ? (MARA, JPA, etc)

Im in my 4th out of 8 semesters in uitm n so far my cgpa is only abit above the 3.00 mark. So my case is i wish to pursue my part 2 overseas preferably UK, only if i am able to acquire a scholarship.

Do u have any ideas on how likely is it for me to obtain a scholarship if i am only able to graduate with this kind of result? I know im only in my second year but still, i have my doubts.

However there is also this latest news i got which is LAM's new ruling on overseas accreditation which states that any enrolment to overseas universities after Dec 2017 will not be accredited. Eventhough if im able to graduate on time (around July 2017) i still wont be able to enrol before Dec 2017 since there is that compulsory 6 months working experience right? If that truly is the case then i'd have no chance to study in the UK directly after my 6 months in the industry at all.

So any rough ideas on how long would it take for UK universities to apply for LAM accreditation n how long would the process take ?

Thank you for your time mr Azarimy
*
hello there,

i. overseas scholarships are obviously for top achievers, or those who fulfills whatever requirements the sponsors want. 3.00 is usually not sufficient for a full scholarship. u need at least 3.50. realistically speaking, of course. else, u should consider taking loans instead.

ii. the 6 months working experience is only required for entry into LAM part 2 programmes. if you're going overseas, u need to fulfill their requirements instead.

i'm not up-to-date with the current events of RIBA, but last i checked, u need RIBA part 1 before u can qualify for RIBA part 2, and u need to fulfill 1 year working experience after part 1 before joining part 2. so assuming UiTM has RIBA part 1, u still need to fulfill 1 whole year of working experience instead of just 6 months for LAM.

iii. some UK universities are currently looking to apply for LAM accreditation. it might take a year or two.

Hi Sir,

based on that statement, am I still able to further my studies in the UK for my RIBA Part 2 (Also accredited LAM Part 2, although there is the new ruling) ?

My plan is to finish my degree (lam part 1) here and do my part two in the UK to save some money instead of 3 years in the UK .
*
like i mentioned before, u need RIBA part 1 first. u can either resit ur part 1 degree, or somehow convince RIBA to let u sit for their part 1 professional exam. however, if u come from UM or UiTM (both has RIBA accreditation i believe), then u can go straight for their part 2 degree. the 1 year working experience still applies though.

no part 3. but in the near future, maybe. hopefully before i'm 40. i went into academic line and went for my masters in UCL about a year after graduating part 2. then went for my PhD in sheffield a year after i finished my masters. i'm currently full time in UTM, but i've been involved in practice based on projects by UTM on part time basis.

i'm also an active member of CAAEM (LAM), although not so much on PAM.

*
by research? perhaps. but there's a number of subjects that u needed to take during the 1st sem (research method etc). but i believe the rest is between u and ur supervisor. most of the lecturers in our school are involved in UTM KL quite often. so if u select them as ur supervisor, u can meet them in KL instead.

hi azarimy,

I would like to ask if Part II is considered a postgraduate programme or an undergraduate programme?
*
depends on the institution offering it. some universities offer it as a masters (postgrad), others still offering it as a degree (undergrad). currently malaysian institutions are in the process of slowly converting their part 2 programmes into masters. the target is, in the next 5 years, all universities in msia will offer part 2 as a masters.

QUOTE(zixian96 @ Apr 29 2015, 06:37 AM)
I've recently enrolled into UTAR Bachelor of Science in Architecture that takes 3 years, I know it's not considered a profession course , may  I know will I qualify to enter Master of Architecture course aftet finishing Bachelor of Science in Architecture? Or I will need to acquire "Bachelor of Architecture" in order to be qualify to take Master course?
*
UTAR's BSc Arch is a professional course. it's for part 1 level, which will make u into an architect's assistant.

to become an architect, u need either Masters of Architecture (M.Arch), or at older schools, Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch). these two are part 2 level, and qualifies u to become an architect. if u take the B.Arch path, u do not need the M.Arch.

to sum up, u either take:

a. B.Sc. Arch (UTAR) -> B.Arch (UPM, USM, UKM, UIAM etc)

b. B.Sc. Arch (UTAR) -> M.Arch (UM, UiTM, UTM, Taylor's etc)

full diagram of where u can study for part 2 is available in this thread's 1st page.
