I won't be so quick to write off Andy Carroll. Then again, a long time ago there was one-season wonder Kevin Philips....

the price is no reflection on a player's talent, it is a reflection on how desperate that particular club wants that certain player. The main factor that influence price is of course talent, but other factors including lack of players due to injuries or being sold, or the chairman is a great admirer of the player, or he is of certain nationality etc.

For example, Andy Carroll maybe worth 18m in talent, another 10m on top for being English, and then another 7m coz Liverpool are in dire need of a striker in such short time span (where got time to haggle or withdraw Newcastle's offer etc).

My point is, while we may see Carroll's 35M price tag as gila, for Liverpool it probably is not so bad considering the surplus of cash they have, plus the desperation they need due to the 11th oclock deals. In fact to trade an off form Torres for a young english player with potential and still got 15m back, i think overall that's not a shabby deal at all.

Carrick and Fletcher are very limited. they are certainly not creative as Scholes or Giggs. never be a goal threat. i always firm believer we need new top class AM.

but Carrick and Fletcher are essential players to protect the back 4. when they're in good form, they are very solid players for us. unfortunately, they're somewhere between mediocre and decent this season.

as midfield 2, i never expect a magic /brilliant moments from them. just hopeful the other 4 attacking players do their jobs to get a goals.

I think most of us fans are frustrated about him because we all know of his quality. Carrick was phenomenal in his first season with us. He has vision and decent shots in him. Attacking wise, he is quite great. Who could forget him and Scholes terrorizing opposition midfielders around with their combination. I'll give you a hint. 7-1 win against a certain Italian team.

On Gibson, attacking wise, I think he is good/decent but his defending acts are a bit worrying.

Fletcher, rated as one of the talented kids back then. Took his time and he was a great DM for us last season.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has announced he will appeal against a Football Association charge of improper conduct.

The charge was announced on Thursday after Ferguson was critical of referee Martin Atkinson following his side's 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils boss was unhappy with Atkinson's failure to show Chelsea defender David Luiz a second yellow card for a trip on Wayne Rooney before the visitors scored a decisive penalty and United then had Nemanja Vidic sent off.

"You want a fair referee, or a strong referee anyway - and we didn't get that," said Ferguson to MUTV in the aftermath of the game.

"I must say, when I saw who the referee was I feared it. I feared the worst."

Ferguson had until Tuesday afternoon to respond to charges but chose to do so quickly, despite the fact an unsuccessful appeal could lead to a long spell on the sidelines.

Carrick as we all know able to operate as either DM or AM but i think he mostly play as a DM or CM. this season however, his play only limited to DM and CM. hardly going forward to take a shot at opponent's goal. maybe it's down to the instruction from the Gaffer or simply he did that to give chance for Ando/Scholes to go forward.
