read them...still have these Qs sad.gif

1. Sorry guys, too many jargon. Just need to know whether I can go into Mobile Setting and turn off any live update or Data Transfer as I don't intend to get any data plan. Please don't ask me why  blush.gif
Can u pls show me the steps or screen shots to do this?

2. How do I then update SGS to 2.3 when available? Sync thru internet via cable?

Sorry guys...still learning.

Thx!

Added on March 10, 2011, 9:34 amTo use Samsung Kies, need to provide credit card details???

crazy!

Added on March 10, 2011, 10:37 ami know this Question sounds "weird"....i go to android market...i download an app, how to install to my phone...

I used to use Symbian - it's just donwload app to phone in any folder and just open the .sis file.

for android? how?

And if I install a new launcher, where will original TouchWiz go?? Or from Touchwiz, i need to run the new launcher???

thx
*
1. Hold power button and select disable data.
2. update through kies.
- Addon. Credit card for kies?
- Symbian requires two steps to install? In android, just download any app in market and it'll automatically download and install.
- About launcher, what's cool about android is that you can browse app that you want from your laptop, click install and it'll install on your phone without any cable attached! Of course you need data or wifi connected. As mentioned: https://market.android.com/details?id=ymst....meswitcherfroyo

Hi folks~ anyone here know how to create an update.zip file to install the phone.apk?  icon_question.gif
*
I usually take a template from insanity addon package. But easier if you use rootexplorer (if you bought it). Just move it to /system/app folder.

that's y i looking for alternate way  blush.gif

Thanks! i will try to use with the template  biggrin.gif

Take file like gmail pack, and replace the app with the one you want. But both this method and using rootexplorer are the same thing. But there's no harm trying.

1. Modems good or bad doesn't affect much on GPS performance imo. It affects more on network coverage strength, battery life, etc. Then again, I never had a bad GPS experience.
I stayed the longest with JPP(last time), ZSJPE, and XXJVE(best battery life).
*
don't know much about modem performance on gps but I did notice slight improvement in gps tracking from JPP --> ZSJPE --> XXJVE. Currently I'm satisfied with XXJVE.
JPX/JPY fared really bad on my phone.

guys, im charging my phone for the first time since i flash simply 2.4, and my phone is damn hot..never happen to my phone when im in darky or doc..anyone knows why?
*
My phone will get hot everytime I use an app called barnacle wifi tether when I'm charging with a power source. Happens with insanity and sweethoney rom.

Check if you have any running app in the background.

hmm..i alredy kill all the apps using the advance task killer provided with simply..and my wifi is off...but still hot..will it harm the phone if hot when charging?

from 2.4 to 2.5, just flash the non wipe version right? or is there any update package?
*
- I have no idea why sometimes the battery gets hot. I got it randomly when charging and using cpu intensive app at the same time. If I pull out charging cable, the temperature will go back to normal.
- Battery life will degrade faster if left hot.
- Non-wipe is enough. No update package.

Or if you have stock eclair firmware, you can skip flashing speedmod because eclair firmwares has 2e recovery by default. The only caveat is you must rename your sweethoney zip file to update.zip using MyFiles app on your phone before going to recovery mode

i already download 3 times v2.5, and all of them are corrupted file.. cant flash it.. i can even open the zip file with my winzip.... what else should i do???
*
When you open with winzip, what do you see?
You should be able to flash through recovery mode straight from darkyy. If still got problem, you'll have to flash stock rom (preferably eclair) using odin. Then, rename your downloaded sweethoney 2.5 (using MyFiles app) to "update.zip" and reflash through recovery mode.

first timer here.. worry about fail and brick the phone. sad.gif

As long as you can go to download mode, won't get a bricked phone. Even then there's jig method and hairdryer hack to get to download mode.

QUOTE(fongzai92 @ Mar 11 2011, 07:38 AM)
after read xda forum. it require froyo ? which mean 2.2 . while mine is 2.1 . so i need to update via kies to 2.2(froyo) first ?
*
I don't believe froyo is necessary. One user here recently flashed sweethoney rom from stock eclair. (zumapuma)
- put sweethoney rom in internal sdcard
- You need to rename the sweethoney zip file to update.zip using MyFiles app on your phone.
- go to recovery mode and select update.zip (use home button to select, volume rocker to love up and down)
- wait 5 minutes and you are done

But you can just follow the instructions Simone gave if you like.

He needs to have CWM first cause he's on stock rom
*
Actually not. Because stock eclair already has 2e recovery. What he needs to do is rename the zip rom to update.zip because the Samsung's 2e recovery only accept update.zip file as opposed to CWM where you can choose which zip file you want without renaming.

really? hmm i always flash from CWM, cause a lot of developers says need CWM to flash, can't flash from 2e or 3e
*
In that case, fongzai should flash CWM first. Maybe can avoid problem such as missing app like zumapuma experienced. He needed to flash the sweethoney rom twice to get it fixed.

ohya. copy the update.zip file into microSD card ? or the internal storage root directory.. hmm.gif

Added on March 11, 2011, 10:52 amflash twice in recovery mode is safer than flash CWM itself ? yawn.gif
*
Both are safe. If you want to use cwm, download it, rename to update.zip, flash it twice. Then you can select the un-renamed sweethoney rom

There has been a leaked gingerbread rom from Samsung. Clearly they are making a gb update for us. Expect 1-2 months before getting it released.

copy from xda. is it this step ah ? hmm.gif

COMPLETE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS (All Versions):

Pre-Requisites:
- Have Froyo installed

INSTALLING SPEEDMOD/DAMIAN KERNEL:

If you already have SpeedMod kernel skip this step!

1) Download SpeedMod Kernel K13C or Damian Ultimate Kernel Odin Version
2) Load into Odin as PDA
3) Go into Download Mode in your SGS and connect to PC via USB
4) Click on START on Odin and wait a few seconds
5) When done your phone will reboot with the new kernel
*
Can also. Because the kernel will give cwm. If you download cwm dirwctly, you avoid using Odin to get to cwm

Ok. Ignore this post. Needs froyo. So either
- flash renamed sweethoney twice in recovery mode or
- flash cwm, then select sweethoney rom

Zumapuma had missing phone, messaging apps so he needed to reflash the rom. Now, if you go to recovery mode, you'll see cwm (with green interface. This time use back button to select)

Enjoy! The jury is still out regarding the problem zumapuma had. Next time I'll just recommend people to flash cwm first if coming from stock eclair.

Time to update the flowchart smile.gif

i want to flash JVE modem? can or not?
*
Or you can go to first page where there are direct link to modems you can choose including the gingerbread modem (xxjve). Can download all, store in sdcard and flash by cwm. If not satisfied, can change easily.

Kernel and theme affect battery consumption the most. Modem has less effect.

Darkyy roms are like that. If you want sweethoney rom, should flash a stock rom using Odin instead of darkyy resurrection.

I see no other point in chasing number of threads other than self-satisfaction. Clearly both sgs and dhd have its own advantages and limitation.

As a linux&android enthusiast, the more interest garnered around android, the better it is for all android users!

since it's not your phone, then try speedmod kernel
*
Or One click lagfix . because if you flash speedmod kernel, you cannot get back to stock kernel unless you flash a whole rom.

although OCLF is no longer developed, it still works. He can easily undo this type of lagfix.
