Thanks man ... probably around RM5-6k for the turboback system I imagine.

Nice review by the way ... something I'll do in the future. I like the fact that APR exhausts are stock sounding at the lower RPM's. This way, can mod without my CEO's (i.e. wife) knowledge.

Ooooh ok ... so now that would explain why even for air intakes, the discrepancy between prices are so wide.

yea blame the Gov...pls dont blame poor retailers like me....alot of ppl accuse me of CUT THROAT PRICING... mad.gif "WHY SO EXPENSIVE??? US only 1/2 the cost"!!!!

hehe...just trying to "educate" consumers

alot of ppl forget to factor in damage. Cos lets say the retailer orders in 3 sets of R LED, and 1 set comes in smashed, thats it...he makes zero profit from that shipment as the broken parts come out from his own pocket

taxes even if u underdeclare and pay undertable..its very hard to run away from the car parts taxes, cos its so obvious its car parts, kastam will tax u kaw kaw...and with the recent arrests by MACC, they are even more on thier toes nowadays

1.) tires are more ex in SG, expecially performance tires
2.)kastams doesnt tax your old rims...but if u have old rims in your car..obviously the rims fitted are the new ones, u will kena
3.) best way is to meet your SG buyer at a tire shop that you have prearranged to take your detroits and old tires
4.) this is more difficult but can be done. arrange for DHL/TNT to pick up the old rims and road express it back to KL
5.) another way...leave your detroits at a msian workshop....get a set of cheapass 2nd hand rims....drive to SG and just chuck the old set there..come back with your spanking new ones.

I have modded cars many years...lets just say i have done most of the suggestions listed above tongue.gif ...most crazy one was drive down on sat morning..fit the new rims and rush back for xmas dinner same nite...but managed to get a almsot new set of gold 18" Prodrives GC for under sgd1500 with tires for my wrx

New car always cun to drive. So, if u can't afford a new GTi, maybe go for the TSI. But of course, your dream is to drive a GTi, then I suggest that you wait and save up for one. U'll never know in what condition the 2nd hand GTi is in and what kinda repairs it might need.
*
theres nothing wrong with buying 2nd hand cars, as long as you do your homework and check it out properly. Most of my cars have been 2nd hand.

My mk5 GTi was bought 2nd hand...served me well for 100k km without any problems, i saved over RM45k over the price of a new GTI

edit:

after i got my mk5 gti...my best fren also got convinced and he also bought a 2nd hand GTI, the car has also served him well and now its 100+k km. He saved even more...his was almost 55k off RRP

if anyone interested its for sale, as he is looking to upgrade, details below

white mk5 GTI for sale! - RM155k neg
- too many mods to list, so will just post the the major ones, major service just done at 100k km
- Osir carbon front valance, osir dual pod with defis
- ECS 6-pot porche BBK
-PSS10
- quads with rieger rear
- matt black OZ superleggera
- Sony avc-70bt HU with 10" sub and monobloc amp

omicheal,

im not picking a fight ok biggrin.gif just pointing out some flaws...

- No one is asking u to buy a 6 year old GTI, you can pick up a 08-09 GTI for TSI price. As a I have owned both the 1.4 tsi and 2.0 before, i can tell you without a doubt that the 2.0 is a far superior engine, in both FC and power

- 5 year warranty? just look at the last 20 pages of postings here...almost 90% of ppl would have modded thier cars and voided the warranty b4 thier 1st year of ownership ends

- buying a 2nd hand car is not some magical science thats hard to learn...its a car...it has 4 wheels a gearbox and engine

- i know more then 1 tsi owner who wished they had bought a 2.0 instead... biggrin.gif u know who u are...

Also...i find it strange that alot of TSI owners....1st thing they do...is buy 18" detroits and remap thier car...followed by dual/quad exhausts.....err....then why not just get a GTI in first place...

MT prices are very inflated, alot of ppl fishing for waterfish

You must ask around for actual TRANSACTED prices.

take this example, if u ask for normal rims, im sure the price can be nego below 148k. granted milege is abit on high side
http://www.mudah.my/Volkswagen+Golf+GTi+2+...rbo-9439535.htm

I got my GTI , 19k km, with 2 digit plate, with 1.5years warranty from VW for rm35k less then the price of a new one. im not saying that ppl MUST go for GTI, the TSI is a perfectly good car and worth the money and peace of mind new.

But alot of ppl seem to be giving advice to avoid 2nd hand cars like plague.

TSI yes, GTI no. I've just read a bunch of professional reviewers who say that TSI is *quite* close to GTI in many ways.

If I don't wanna get butthurt maybe better just never drive GTI right? Then I'll never know what I'm missing icon_rolleyes.gif
*
ah..then it makes your argument flawed...if you have never tested the GTI, how can you say its not worth the extra over a TSI?

morning all,

thanks for the various PoVs! nice! well, i think for me it all boils down to opportunity costs and budget constraints. anyways thanks again..my wife is planning to get a car too, whether should wait for the Polo Sedan  rclxub.gif  CKD or just go ahead with our planned Fiesta. Yes the price range is vastly different (maybe) but hmmmm  doh.gif .
*
the polo sedan will most likely get the 1.6 engine...so the fiesta is a much better choice, alot esier on the pocket for a better value car

something very strange happened to my polo fuel consumption...
last week when my fuel tank still have a little bit more than 1/4,i pumped 41 litres of ron97(which is a lot,as i think full tank for polo is only around 45-50 litres).

then one week later,i clocked 150km+ and the indicator is still showing full tank and i went to pump again. This time i manage to pump only 2.8 litres.WTFFF  huh.gif hmm.gif

whats wrong? icon_question.gif

you are complining about your cars good fuel consumption? hmm.gif

any MK5 GTI owners care to share what common or major problem that they encounter during their ownership ?

common sense tells dat.. it shud b the gearbox.. any1 burst that box and spent 20k to fix ?
some local workshops capable to service and handle cars like this ?
tot i saw sumwhere.. ppl complaining on the stiff ride.. FC.. and difficulty in sourcing partS?
*
gearbox isnt a common problem even though u hear alot about it.

the REAL problems are

- Burst DV (rm180-250)
- Worn out cam follower resulting in HPFP failure (preventive servicing RM100, if u dont service, RM2k+ if it fails)
- secondary fan failure(rm800-Rm1k)

while it sounds bad, all are common problems that can resolved by any workshop that are used to VWs. Difficulty in sourcing parts? pls...its damn easy to source VW parts, and it will only get easier with the more parts shops jumping in to serve the new polo/TSI owners

Finally got TSI yesterday, pumped 50 litres ron97 cost RM135, damn expensive.. next pump will degrade to ron95.

My friend said ron95 fuel will lower around 10hp. haizzz
*
lower hp isnt the problem, TSI tends to have knocking on 95, especially if u unlucky and hit a bad batch of petrol.

I tend to mix...or go for petronas 95, the new mixture is not bad

115 sounds abit high actually, it has been rock steady at 90 for me for my entire ownership, even after hard drving up ulu yam and genting

google dv volkswagen- gives about 3mil hits....have fun

apologies if i sound harsh, but im firm believer in "teach a person to fish...." instead of "giving ppl a fish...." im glad u googled b4 asking, but you need to adapt your search words, obviously googling just dv is too wide a term

hi futo,

yes diverter valve is the answer i am looking for smile.gif I had no idea what this DV stands for previously.

From wikipedia, it seems like blow off valve is similar function except that it releases the air to atmosphere but DV recirculates it back into the intake.

Now I understand why my GTI dont have the pssh pssh blowoff sound like most other turbo car on the road. I find the blow off sounds a lot cooler tho.
*
And there you go rclxms.gif yes, i totally agree with you that i sound mean...in fact..i think quite alot of ppl think im a pompous, arrogant fart online. But it comes from answering the sames qs over and over for many years smile.gif

The description u found on wiki is correct, its a simple part, but for some stupid reason, VW made it out of thin rubber, and it tends to burst, leaving you with no boost.

if you search VW volkswagen on google, the 1st link will actually give you a pic of the DV, if u click the 2nd link, it will show a upgraded DV version "D" thats much better and stronger

Subaru's and GTIs have recirc DVs...so pls dun go installing a BOV just for the pssst psstttt
