I am from a hardware business background. IMHO, workmanship should come above everything else. If there’s renovation going on in your neighborhood, just pop in one day and look at the workmanship. There are different methods to lay tiles. Some contractors use spacers, others don’t. Some have Obsessive Compulsive Disorders. Others just want to get the job done, get paid and move on.

You have to ask for his price for laying 2 x 2 tiles compared to 1 x 2 tiles. 1 x 1 tiles actually make your space look smaller.

I found my contractor who was in his 70s. My job last year was his 3rd last before retiring. I was contemplating 2 x 4 tiles before he vetoed my selection saying 2 x 2 is the max size he could work with.

Quality of tiles matter too. Decide on the brand you want. MML, Kimgress and Niro Granite are among the established and better quality ones. Have a look at Feruni Ceramiche too. Then decide whether you want to go ceramic or homogeneous.

Good insight there!

Seems the cost of workmanship depends on the size & type of tiles too. How much would you say we should pay for *workmanship per sq foot?

* guess that should include cost of screeding & all materials besides cost of tiles

Depends on the cement type use. For normal cement, you can probably walk on it after 3 hours. The contractor will say after 1 day. I would wait for 2 days. The cement will fully cure in 7 days if not mistaken. I parked my car after 2 days though and no problem laugh.gif

I replaced my caved-in-base WC and waited 28 days to use it as concrete fully cures in 28 days. So far so good (its been years).

Hi Everyone,

Woke up today and found the 2x2 tiles in my living room cracked and an entire row of tiles from living room to dining area bulging.
Am looking for a reliable and reasonably priced contractor to help me remove old tiles, clean up and install new ones.

Can anyone pm me their contractor's contacts? Would also like to know roughly how much a fix like this will cost. Thank you!

Attached photos for reference.

Anyone here purchased any grade 2 Niro tiles from their Shah Alam warehouse?

How’s the quality compared to those grade 1 local/China tiles that found in SuperCeramic?

As I visited both places yesterday, the 2x2 tiles that I interested in SuperCeramic cost RM10.20 per pc(salesgirl claimed its from china and its grade1) whereby the one I like in Niro warehouse cost RM11 per pc but its grade 2.

So right I’m in a dilemma on making the decision on picking from these two. Appreciate if anyone can give me some feedback on this. notworthy.gif

Grade 1 means the tiles are thicker and more consistent quality than Grade 2 which is thinner. However tiles also comes with other specifications such as PEI abrasion rating and absorption rating. So it is not easy to determine just looking at Grade 1 vs Grade 2 alone. Normally Niro has excellent low water absorption rate. But I can't say if their Grade 2 tiles are the same or it is better than your china tiles. If you don't have specs then it is hard to compare.

All u know is Grade 1 should be thicker than Grade 2. Best is get Grade 1 technical porcelain tiles but they are slightly more expensive

I guess I shall ask for both of their full specs for better comparison. Thanks you so much sensei!

If anyone here bought any Niro grade 2 tiles here, feel free to share!

You should ask for more detail. If it is just remove and put new tile, it is expensive. For that price probably can lay BRC wire mesh to reinforce the strength, I guess.

I thought NG tiles if it is Grade 1 means in the carton none of it are off-spec and where it is Grade 2 a small percentage of that carton may have some minor defects in terms of uniformity of appearance.

I stand corrected if otherwise.
