Alternative to Nokia 5800?

Getting one for my wife, she likes the features of a 5800, meaning:
1) Got GPS
2) Touch Screen
3) wi-fi
4) 3G video call

The only thing she hates is the thickness. So guys, any phones with similar feature with the 5800 but slimmer? Thanks in advance ....

QUOTE(jackyyong @ Mar 2 2011, 05:11 PM)
Oh forgot to mention my budget .... preferably within RM1000
*
C7 is slimmer and bigger and better than 5800.. but price is more than 1k lah.. for about the same price as 5800, C5-03. but not really slim. it slim by 1.7mm only.. sweat.gif C6-01 is 1.6mm slimmer than 5800, but feature like C7

if can go other brand, do tell..

nokia
rm800-900
wifi, online, smooth browsing, 3g, radio, memory card, camera 5px ++

i'm new to nokia. not used to ovi, symbian  stuff. n is touchscreen is good? not used to it either. always used SE.

thanks for all your suggestions, i'm a newbie in smartphone. sweat.gif

Nokia X6 is quite a good choice given by the price. Nokia C6-01 is a better phone IMO, but your budget have to stretch a bit.

For me, i really wished that Nokia have included the Carl Zeiss lens for the Nokia C6-01 phone. smile.gif

symbian is the OS.. like pc, u have windows, mac, linux, and newly chrome. for smartphones, there is iOS(iphone), android(lots of lots now, look for HTC's, samsung etc), windows mobile 7, and symbian.

ovi is just an account for u. like msn la.. but ovi will enabled u to use all ovi services (again, like google's product also is enabled to be used by registring just gmail. am i rite? wink.gif ) so, u can download apps from ovi store, used ovi maps..

well, don't expect much from nokia web browser sweat.gif for me, as I'am also jump (not really jump. I ran away) from SE's (I got nightmares using them. maybe just me sweat.gif ). the web browser for me is usable since I also new to smartphone laugh.gif  i suggest u to try nokia X6 16gb as it is within your budget. hmm.gif everything else is pretty well covered IMO nod.gif but not the part of memory card one.. as X6 didn't have any memory slot sad.gif
if u really need the memory card, the only options within that budget that i can think of is C5-03. but the camera is not really comparable to X6. plus, the resistive touchscreen (as on older touchscreen phones. like 5800, which used the stylus) vs capacitive on X6 (capacitive is like iphone simply put.. very responsive compared to resistive. but will never respon to normal stylus and fingernail)

but if u may have any chances to extend your budget, better get new symbian^3 devices such C6-01 for smoother UI (compared to X6). it covers all your need there by topup around 100

Only unlucky people get spoiled phones. It is up to the seller to check properly when taking the stocks, after that it is up to the user to take good care of the phone.

However, things happens. It is hard to blame on other people. Luck plays role in it. wink.gif

For new products, it is inevitable to avoid this risk totally. That is why i prefer to invest on the phone that is more than 6 months since its release into the market.

As for the touchscreen is good or not, it is up to the other people's own preference. I am used N97, N97 mini, Nokia 5800, and other touch screen phones before, it is just fine for me. Currently, my Nokia 5800 serves me well.

What internet format you mean? My Nokia 5800 can display secured and non-secured site with ease.

In some certain sites, mobile pages are meant to optimize the surfing experience. You might want to look down for any button like "PC Site" to switch to the normal pages. wink.gif

nope. the only web browser that can do all like pc's web browser AFAIK is N900's mozilla based browser. android has good fast browser. but still, a bit not really comparable to N900's web browsing experience.

Nope Symbian is on flash lite. Nokia N900 is with Mozilla based web browser with Adobe Flash 9.4 supported.

If the video created by Flash 10 it just doesnt load

Jut frustrated to get a new phone nowadays. It seems every manufacturer is only interested in producing smartphone. It is to me the mobile phone is getting it way back to be big and bulky. Not that i want to complain, i think till now that my SE C905 is still the best for me. It is small, it come with a good camera that able to produce some great shot. It might be me but, what is the point to have a smartphone? To access facebook all the time? The most lame excuse that i heard before, to access email. Come on, how many email you going to get, and even you get an email instantly, what are you going to do about it? Example : you receive an email requsting your to do some quotation for your client or even your client is asking some technical issues that need you to explain. So what you going to do? You will get your laptop to reply the email. So what is the point of having smartphone in the firt place? Some say to post the photo immediately after you snqp it, but again, is it really that critical that you need to post on your facebook that fast? Is to me more like a show off then any othere reason.

To me all this smrtphone are more like a gimmick. I don't know you guys, but how many of you really enjoy a smartphone? Does it really lighten your daily work load? Does it really speed up your efficiency? I hold my doubt.

Till now I still looking for a good replcement unit for my c905, but i guess, i would went in to repair it back to is original state then to get a new smqrtphone.

Different people get it for different reason. It can be just cuz he have that budget to buy a smartphone.
Some people wanna show off. Some people wanna play with apps.
Some people are really addicted with FB, twitter and etc.
For me, i don't own a smartphone yet, but i will.
Just because is time for me to change a phone. And i like playing with apps.
Altho i might not be really using a smartphone smartly. But i am more happy using one rather than a basic phone.
It might be different for you.
But yeah, just my 2 cents.

Here is what i use with my Nokia 5800 that normal phones cannot be used like that:

1. Navigate me around places that i am not familiar
2. Capable of checking emails and surfing web on the go.
3. Install application like BlackBaller Pro to manage my calls and sms.

The point is it is up to the people to choose whether they want to use the smartphone or not. Those usage i mentioned above are definitely important for me.

For replying emails and facebooking, i rarely use the smartphone to do so.
