You recently requested to be notified about the availability of the Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone. We are contacting you today to confirm the current situation with this soon to be released device.

There have been a lot of rumours on the internet regarding the release date and specification of the unit. Having spoken to Samsung UK we can confirm the following:

- UK stock is expected to be launched and made available for sale from the 1st May.

- As the 1st of May is a Sunday and the 2nd May is a UK holiday, we expect the dispatch of orders to commence on Tuesday 3rd May.

- The Galaxy S II will be available as a 16GB model.

- It will have a 1.2GHz dual-core processor (as opposed to the previously advertised 1GHz).

- The processor chip type is to be confirmed, but we expect it to be an Exynos chip

- We expect the screen type to be Super AMOLED Plus

The price is due to remain at the current GBP 440 pounds + shipping costs + VAT (if applicable).  However, please be aware that Samsung might still change the price and/or release date. All customers who have placed an order will receive an email form us approximately one week before release of the device to confirm the price, specification and shipping date.

Here at Clove we plan to have sufficient stock to cover all orders and hopefully be in an 'in stock' situation upon the day of release.  Having said this, the demand for the Galaxy S II is higher than we have seen for any other smartphone, so we do recommend that you place an order as soon as possible. Please remember that you are entitled to cancel your order at any point up to dispatch.

As far as I know Super AMOLED+ use RGB tech, different than Super AMOLED's pentile.

The phone is slated for a worldwide release between April and July in 2011.

"Not all regions will get the Exynos 4210 "GT-I9100" model. Some will get the Tegra 2 powered version, the "GT-I9103". Similarly some regions may receive a 'Super Clear LCD' (SC-LCD) on the Tegra 2 version. Samsung have not yet confirmed which regions will receive the variant models.[18] According to Eldar Murtazin, of Mobile-Review.com, this is believed to be because Samsung may not be able to meet shipment demands of both its own Exynos chip and Super AMOLED Plus screens. sammy is intentionally trying to hit some apples with SGSII, release time is also almost the same. I'd wait until both is released b4 making any judgements, especially if iOS5 is coming.

We’ll this is it. Our comparison of the Samsung Galaxy S II and the LG Optimus 2X is over. We had a lot of fun with both, and we’re actually sad to finally get to the end. That exciting feeling of the unknown before every test, the anticipation of the results – we gadget geeks live for that stuff.
We have to say that each contender had its handicaps. The Optimus 2X is still on Android 2.2 Froyo, while the Samsung flagship is a pre-release unit that hasn't still got the promised factory overclock to 1.2Ghz.
The Samsung Galaxy S II feels like the top dog in this head-to-head. It has the upper hand with the SuperAMOLED display, the amount of available RAM, and the still and video camera. Plus software-wise, it comes with the latest Android version with better overall UI customizations (if you are into that stuff).

The Galaxy S II had more time to prepare for this fight than the Optimus 2X – that’s the price of being the first dual-core smartphone out there. Rushing to be first in the world, the Optimus came out without the latest Android build and without competition, while the Galaxy S II had time to check out its opponents and give its best. A little like cheating, we have to say. But the end result is what counts above everything else.
But don’t take this as a total defeat for the Optimus 2X. It’s still a nice and powerful device. And it stood its ground with pride. It has a relatively good display and camera plus a great processor that’s still almost unmatched in smartphone terms. It’s a great smartphone, it's just not the best – that would have to be the Galaxy S II title.
