And I do not know which of your eyes saw I that I advice him/her to go consider the D3x or D3s, I told him/her that either(550d & d90) can be a good camera and choice is up for him/her while I told her what the difference IMO.

Quite common, especially when they didn't check or know the classification or category of the camera; This happen also to other products, especially automotive (e.g. cars getting bigger in size (+ price), people tend to confused and compare with higher end cars).


Well, actually, if you want to talk about personal opinion, lol, everyone has one, it'll become havoc. Plus, body type doesn't make it higher class, if yes, then... if Canon comes out 2000D (lowest entry model) and gives it a mag alloy body, do you consider it higher class than 60D and D7000?

The best is to stick to the actual classification/category, you say 60D downgraded in terms of BODY construction, but it's still quite heavy; probably they want to maintain the weight? Who knows? Ask Canon

But I always don't understand Canon's strategy. They always have competition even within their own products . 550D -> 60D -> 7D. All using same sensor...

The reason canon pull down 60D's standard from 50D is because canon wanna make xxxxD, xxxD and xxD in a same category as entry level bodies. After that will be the single digit xD and xDs, which is considered as pro bodies.

Like that, their dslr can be easily separated into 2 categories instead of 3, which I personally find it quite confusing sometimes.

Hehe yeah, coz some consumers want FF and fast fps, and they kinda have similar body.
Canon totally failed in product differentiation. Too much overlapping and certain high end model lack features that exist in smaller and cheaper body eg faster fps (but that's like a tradition of 5D to have slow fps).

Those naming scheme only affect the US market, over here we still use 600D and 1100D while in japan kiss something (lol not sure)

Look it this way though, the 1100D is the most basic and cheapest canon dslr while 600D is a step above that but both still in the entry level. Nikon also did the same thing with D3000 and D5000

Bottom line is, Canon refresh the body too frequent. Last time my friend bought 500D and not long after 550D came out. LOL. Then those who bought 550D also not even 1 year release the 600D. Damn fast.

HAHA from the trend of how Canon upgrade their models recently, there's a possibility that they would just install a the new swivel screen to 5D mark2 and name it the new 5D mark3

How can you say Canon fail. Canon Singapore has the ability to sponsor million-dollar goodies including 24 7D cameras, telephoto lenses, flashes, and 700 document managements devices to National Sports Assiociation(NSA). Have you seen any other companies do that? Besides, Canon has the ability to open it's own concept stores throughout our whole country. Have you seen a lot other companies do that? If Canon cannot differentiate its own product properly, can they open so many concept stores?

How can you say Canon fail. I really don't understand.

Canon spends more more then Nikon on advertising and promotions, no doubt about that. Same goes with sponsors. IIRC last year NST recieved 20 1Ds MkIV, 70-200mm F2.8 and 17-40mm

Canon earning a lot from selling printers, calculators, list goes on? They don't only sell photography gears leh~ I like Canon's printers

I like their calculators, much better than casio and never failed me in exam. After so many years still running strong.
I like their L lens. At least they dare to say officially that their lens are weather sealed unlike nikon so that crazy and rich people can bring it when they bath and shower with their rubber ducky.
