Need more download speed. Seems like VIP20 still not fast enough for me huhuhu.
*
I'd like more in terms of constant speed and low latency throughout the day...

QUOTE(Neptern @ Mar 18 2011, 06:15 PM)
You download a lot of ahem stuff?hehe laugh.gif

Using 5mbps now also quite enough for me(at the moment).Maybe i'm just not as heavy a user as you nod.gif

Of course if tm could give more with lower price and no cap(or a bit of traffic management)then it would be perfect....
*
Not necessary because of downloading a lot of things...

More towards instant speed for everything... especially for live streaming and low latency gaming experience...

QUOTE(Something Else @ Mar 18 2011, 09:03 PM)
Well, I don't want to get into an argument regarding capping and traffic management now. We all want unlimited bandwidth at unlimited speed. However, this would be impossible, especially looking at the network infrastructure we have here in Malaysia.

My point is, no matter what, there will always be people dissatisfied with the service. Even using traffic management, the heavy downloaders will complain because they get throttled at certain times.

I don't like TM. I hate their monopoly on Malaysia's network. But I won't let that bias my judgement of how things can be done, or how it should be done.

We cannot just expect everything to fall into place nicely for us. Even if I give you a 100Mb/s line, I'm sure there will be some people complaining.

And yes, we are worst off than south africa apparently
*
Our backbone is actually very good (majority local provider actually uses TM backbone)...
the problem lies with how TM choose their equipment for their infrastructure and for end user (us)...

For example, our Unifi comes with a very lousy D-Link router. The signal transmit strength is below par and not suitable for multiple heavy user...

p/s: you would be surprised if you know what kind of setup TM have for their IPTV... that is why the service is not that excellent..

QUOTE(Thrust @ Mar 19 2011, 04:44 PM)
Could it be that Unifi started implementing download cap already?
*
Not that i notice yet...

QUOTE(rizer @ Mar 20 2011, 09:21 PM)
Capping is just matter of time
because if not consider the purchasing power
malaysia's broadband seem quite cheap for a no cap package.

p.s. pls also forget about S'pore , Korea and Japan
their citizen is highly "crowding" at certain area like tokyo and seoul
and many of them living at high rise building and one fibre cable will solve all the issue
but malaysia love landed property....
*
especially in korea, their broadband explosion was actually based on luck...

why lucky? their utilitiy provider (malaysian equivalent TNB) has already installed fibre optic along their electrical lines to each building. the fibre optic was meant for their internal use which was less than 10%. so they lease out the remaining 90% to korean telco and the rest is history...

QUOTE(aneip @ Mar 21 2011, 02:07 PM)
How long does unifi service will available after there start digging the road for fiber connection? My place at Taman Sutera Kajang. Last week can see the build a box next to existing TM box. This week already pull a fiber cable to the box. Talk to them, the said 1 month will finish everything. Does service will be available after the contractor finish with cabling? or it's will take a few more month?
*
It may take a few weeks to a few months... take my place for example, the green box (with fiber and everything) was installed in early march 2010 and the services only available in Q3 2010...

I'd suggest you check unifi website regularly especially if you landline number is serviceable by unifi...

I am still having problems setting up port forwarding with the DIR 615 router, any sifus can help me out here?

The problem is when I set up in the Advanced Port Forwarding area, it doesn't work, I can't connect to my server externally. I can connect if I set up as a DMZ but I do not want to open all the ports into my pc.

How do you guys configure to be able to host games?
*
what kind of game you are hosting? Do you know what port it uses? Dynamic assigned port or specific port number? if it is dynamic like mesengger or torrent then make sure UPNP is enabled...

I am hosting a openvpn server, UDP port 1194. I tried the configurations (Advanced Port Forwarding section) using SSH tcp port 22 as well. Both doesn't work when I use Advanced Port Forwarding, it worked when I use DMZ.

QUOTE(Neptern @ Mar 21 2011, 07:09 PM)
Yea it should be available at lowyat(i got it at digital IT mall PJ).The router should be around rm89 and i recommend you got get it then go to klseet's website to get the beta firmware, flash the router and you're good to go.Make sure you get the unifi password from the installer and reserve some cash to pay for 'other' installation fees(so much for free installation sad.gif ).

This is for LANDED PROPERTY.If you are using vdsl then you might have use other methods cuz they might be problems with vdsl.
*
If u have been charged other installation fees, kindly let us know what, why and how much...

As far as i know (ftth), from the greenbox to fibre termination box (ftb) should be free... from ftb to btu there is a limit in terms of length, and contractor should advised what is the limit and recommend a suitable location to put the devices...

in my case, i have two options, either upstairs or downstairs where the tv is located... upstairs the distance is shorter and no bending the fibre around the house... downstairs the fibre have to bend around the house... i chose upstairs...

Climbing the ceiling cost rm100 and wiring cost rm300.It might be a con job from my assigned contractor but who knows. What's done is done and not going to think about it.

Anyhow before installation just negotiate with the installer the pricing first before installing. At least this way there's no arguement later on.They do tell me something about changing wifi password need to wait 2 months if not cannot use crap.Just change to damn default router to tp link(or you might wanna go the mikrotik way) and you are homefree(and stress free too). nod.gif
*
hmm... climbing the ceiling? I thought for high rise, unifi uses existing building's copper wire (hence the use of vdsl2)...each unit should have phone socket right?

perhaps i should raise this issue to the appropriate personnel...

QUOTE(dimenxion @ Mar 22 2011, 07:17 AM)
i cant get it to work at the first time either. but then i figured out how to do it. this is how you need to configure it

1. Private ip (your LAN IP)
2. Ports - as it is ssh i assume u use 22. set it on those 3 small boxes. 3 boxes should be the same port number unless you are doing multiple ssh server that can be connected directly from outside
3. Name of the service - anything you want
3. Public IP - This box you must leave it BLANK. do not enter anything.
This config works perfectly for me as my ssh server and squid can be access from external site. the rest of port forwarding should work
*
apparently the router itself is having difficulty recognizing its own public ip address...

since i dont have time to test openvpn (a bit lazy to play around with the settings) i'm just gonna use my existing freebsd (virtual) to test portforwarding

in my case, i simply want to ssh from extenal server to my box... but for some reason i cant use port 22 as public port so i just use 2222...

private port remain 22 (changing to different number requires me to change the sshd listening port)

as mentioned above put your lan ip and make sure the related services is running such as sshd...

google any public portscan tool and test your public ip with port 2222

try ssh from external server
CODE
ssh user@publicIP -p 2222

so to kiwlm, adjust accordingly for your openvpn server

and thanks to dimenxion for this tips

pls minus the ahem stuff lah bro. hahaha..

btw, if everything was connected, but the download is 0, it might be the connection to the host server was reset/cut off. which host file are u downloading from? using what?DDL?Torrent?
at the moment, its better to keep track and records every changes in your speed and send it to unifi@tm.com.my so that u can show the proof that u are having unstable speed. later on, after issues resolved ask for rebate.. profit!
*
agreed, probably connection to the seeder/peer was reset

i hv no major problem with unifi just yet... only sometimes direct download from filehosting provider (premium) was not up to speed... occasionally i have to reset (or stop and on again) the downloading or if i'm in no mood i simply reboot the router for fresh ip...

p/s: i stop use torrent a couple of years back (when the p2p throttle issue first arise). These days i rarely download anything even when i'm currently on vip20...but when there is a need i.e freebsd8.2, it was excellent... did it in less than 10mins...

QUOTE(dimenxion @ Mar 22 2011, 11:57 AM)
i think it is also possibe for you to still use the same listening port for all other devices (if you happened to have multiple device using same listening port). for example RDP connections. i think you can change the WAN port to other number and remain the private port as it is. so for me logically the external connection will come in as 3390 (for example) and when it come into the LAN it will translate as 3389. this works on modem/router that i had ever configured (cisco, etc) so i guess it should work this dlink as well
*
yes, the external port can be the same i think since its purpose is only to listen for any connection to said port...the forwarding port will redirect the traffic accordingly to the internal server/ports...

this perhaps will cut down the number of external listening port (hence reducing number of open ports)...

QUOTE(jAkUn @ Mar 22 2011, 12:02 PM)
lol..u just forced download them all? u know the DIR615 has multiple connections limitation right? Just set que the download, it will faster that way.

more over, what software did u use? utorrent? can check the logger?
RS/HF/MU? Most of the filehoster always got problems and can't even determine the fault was either from our side/TM side/filehoster side. U use DDL using any download manager?

well, on VIP20 torrent usage or p2p throttle is not the issues since u can squeeze the speeds in no time. freebsd seeding is always fast bro.
*
yeah, i think dlink has a limited number of how many active session one can establish... perhaps forcing all 70+ threads (with perhaps min 10 active session per thread) will affect the whole downloading process...

i guess the filehoster could be blame for this... that's why i said its a minor problem... i use jdownloader

maybe i'll try torrent next time (or on next version of freebsd)... for the recent one i just direct download it from the server...

Thanks to both VerM and dimenxion, finally got my openvpn up. I thought I tried with blank public ip and filled in public ip, but both doesn't work last week when I tried it. Now it does! And yeah, port 22 can't be forwarded, I think it always goes to the port 22 on the router itself.

Happy now!! Thanks.  rclxm9.gif
*
Yup probably for the router since it has remote ssh management... i dont see why we can't use it...

Anyway its good that your ovpn is working... rclxms.gif

Guys... I wonder, the UNIFI 5mbps is it

1. Dedicated 5mbps for Download and 5mbps for Upload?
2. Total 5mbps for Download AND Upload?

This is the thing that I want to clarify,
when i ask the UNIFI dudes, they say its dedicated 5mbps for Download and 5mbps Upload.

When I do a speed test says different story...

Guys can you test your UNIFI also....  notworthy.gif
*
Up to the speed... not dedicated i.e: 4.5mbps up 4.1mbps down (some gets better some get worse or combination of both)
