just a minor update, not upgrade. You might need to backup your phone data first just in case.  For me, the update run smooth, download 300+kb, some updating and phone restart itself, then back to normal, the version is updated at setting info

so, double confirm to you, no need to reinstall anything, just like installing normal apps except the phone restart part blush.gif

oh, just another triple confirm, it works for native Meamo OS only, if you tinker the OS such as CSSU, don't patch it

p.s. I didn't install enhance kernel too, so anyone can confirm it didn't crash with it also?

Thanks, I didn't meddle with CSSU, but I have enhance kernel... so, better don't try first until confirm, lol
Thanks again!

My advice, is if you plan to have better upgrades/options, the CSSU is actually pretty stable now. I've had nearly NO issues (actually, cause I'm not sure if some of the issues are CSSU related or not) and I've been using the CSSU ever since it was first created.

However, just remember to backup everything in an SD card, make sure you know how to flash the N900 properly, and nothing else should be a bother.

I highly recommend the CSSU.... well, since most of us are moving on to other devices already, the N900 should be pretty much the 2nd phone eh? I'm basically just tweaking and effing up my N900 to my hearts content.

Give it a go. I dare ya. tongue.gif

Sadly, not one phone can replace N900, it's still my primary device, I've use N8 and N9, without physical keyboard is just a nono; Secondly, n Flash, MeeGo lack of Desktop, etc. Without a good browser with Flash, I can't visit Desktop version sites, I never like browsing with FB App, I always browse Desktop sites on N900.

Waiting for a good Android qwerty device, which may never have; Droid 3 is "okok" but not officially available; Captivate Glide not idea coming here or not? Maybe the Xperia Pro, although spec is low, but the price is ok, plus it has good display and nice built quality. Maybe if there's a good telco plan which offer very cheap price for the phone...

I got myself the Xperia Pro for about a month+ already; need a qwerty...

Despite that, I still go back and use my N900 occasionally... nothing can replace the N900 up till date... it's still the best internet tablet smartphone... best PC like experience...
Even with all the "boombastic" browser and latest Flash in Android, chrome-like Dolphin browser, Firefox, Opera, etc... none can beat the dinosaur-age Maemo browser.... My productivity and what I can do in, went down when using Xperia Pro... no true-multitasking is a real pain, selecting certain text to copy is real pain, no short-cut keys like "ctrl+A","ctrl+v", "shift+cursor", etc. is a real big pain, no mouse cursor activation can sometimes be problem when navigating DHTML or interactive site.

Playing videos with Maemo was the LEAST problem, except for high bitrate and/or resolution... With other OS, so many issues and limitation.

Why oh why... how I wish Maemo is continued to be enhanced and updated... and a new device like N900 with better spec is introduced; With today's processing power and ram + Maemo OS, it'll be a gem...
No, N9/MeeGo is NOT a replacement, it doesn't live up to what Maemo offers, except maybe for true multi-tasking.

Unfortunately, fluidity and apps are all the rage now. If you asked me, Nokia isn't really going to sell much of these Maemo devices because using it is a little bit too complex for all the average users out there. We enjoy it cause we know how to avert the shortcomings and use it to it's fullest potential. It'll be disastrous however to make this a mainstream device if they can't find a way to make it more user friendly.... it's concept was also way beyond it's technology advancement during that time hence leading to a lot of bugs and unfinished aspects of the phone...

Still an avid N900 user here though. smile.gif

Actually, if they put on effort into the OS, they can make the OS simple and easy to use; Photoshop is a very powerful tool, yet everyday they're improving the software to make it easier to use for beginners and make every process more simple. That's software.
For OS, there's no need to REMOVE functions/features, it can be set as option to turn off by default, so more advance users can enable it. In software, many things are flexible and customizable; but sadly, not many people understand software, it's different from hardware, but manufacturer's make people think of software like hardware.

Anyway, nowadays world, it's all about apps apps apps. Actually ever since the fruit blooms, they change the world perception, app-centric device. Who cares what the OS can do, it's all about what apps are available.

Though, if you read a few posts back (it's still in the same page you posted this, even) I posted something about HD recording and playback is now finally possible (although not quite smooth for some formats) and how to do it.
*
Thanks~
I know about it quite sometime ago when they were working on it, but didn't really bother to look further into it as HD videos are larger in size and also may have some playback issue (smoothness, etc) for certain formats as you said. Anyway, so far, comparing with other devices/OS running more powDerful hardware, it was a much more pleasant experience playback with the N900, same goes for web browsing and the best yet true-multi-tasking ability.

... Makes me feel so alone here. Man, I wish I can just swap out the entire N900 chassis and put the N9's internals into it.

Impossible plus I'm being super unreasonable, I know. But man, N950 is like my wet dream man cry.gif

I still prefer N900 anytime.

What happened to N9 thread?? They are newer than us and more apps than us even supported by Nokia still

No idea, lol, less active compared to N900.
Personally, I still prefer N900 due to the qwerty, and also Maemo5 with Desktop.
