QUOTE(Andy214 @ Feb 6 2012, 11:31 PM) Playing videos with Maemo was the LEAST problem, except for high bitrate and/or resolution... With other OS, so many issues and limitation. Though, if you read a few posts back (it's still in the same page you posted this, even) I posted something about HD recording and playback is now finally possible (although not quite smooth for some formats) and how to do it. |

I think, except for a few hiccups, I can say that my experience with it is very, very fluid; and I like my Maemo that way thanks very much.
If the N9 had a QWERTY keyboard then I'll absolutely go crazy over it even though I know I won't be able to buy it at my present financial capability (I like mine in full cash, hard to follow with instalments...), but the lack of it is a real turn-off factor, but the N9 is still something nice if I can get one... So, if I ever lose this one, I'll just go for another N900. |

Some lazy time doodling.
... Hmm, I don't know, it seems to be a very difficult time for me if I have to choose a new phone; looking at nowadays trends looks like I'll have to go with the "leave it" as in "take it or leave it". The lack of sliding qwerty (or more correctly, lol-y-u-need-a-qwerty-we-ain't-making-one), saturation of the market with either iStuff or Androids, and Nokia going LOLweMicrosoftnow pretty much killed any hopes of a satisfiable new phone for me... and my sister. |

Gentlemen,
While looking for it in Malaysia might be scarce and requires A LOT OF LUCK to find it, I wonder if anyone knows, or know anyone I can reach out to, or even you guys to help - I'm looking for a keyboard button replacement set. Something like this perhaps. Some of my buttons are losing its symbols and my spacebar is now cracked, split into 3 fragments >_< If any of you can help me with this thanks very much! |

QUOTE(sosot000 @ Apr 12 2012, 01:09 PM) QUOTE(mashimarow @ Apr 12 2012, 01:55 PM) no more news already, maemo is already old tech, some of the top sifu here already switch to android ... Makes me feel so alone here. Man, I wish I can just swap out the entire N900 chassis and put the N9's internals into it.Impossible plus I'm being super unreasonable, I know. But man, N950 is like my wet dream man |

^ Say... did you try out the 720p hack I pointed out a few pages ago? That apparently includes the ability to record in 720p HD.
To be honest, though, it's a hack; therefore unstable but at least it was fun trying it out This post has been edited by FlameReaper: Apr 14 2012, 06:32 PM |

QUOTE(hahn87 @ Apr 15 2012, 08:45 PM) i guess repairing mine is cheaper than getting the second hand still LOL. The Maemo/Meego community were working on one as we speak, apparently, and progress so far is going good. Although I'm suspecting Whatsapp's relevance seems to be falling if I were to judge posts mentioning about it over there...eyeing on the pureview 808... i am now using HD2 on android.. well the only reason i jump ship is just becuase of whatsapp... why no whatsapp client for maemo 5 T_T |

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « http://al.chemy.org/ Originally intended for PC, but I can run it in the N900! legendarycity: That means you still haven't installed the kernel-config package, try doing a CODE root followed by CODE apt-get install kernel-config This post has been edited by FlameReaper: Jul 1 2012, 06:25 PM |

QUOTE(menghao @ Oct 10 2012, 10:19 AM) yappari just down again. long time didn't visit this topic already. Nothing much. Guess I should do a lot of talking now.Hello everyone , any major update? Added on October 10, 2012, 12:14 pmis that possible to make moddrana to offline map? Also, new apps for N900 are now on the rise thanks to them running a developers' program - we now have a much more decent Facebook app (Kasvopus) and Twitter app (TwimGo3) thanks to www.substanceofcode.com More new app developments are going on in TMO in preparation for the release of Qt 5 which will subsequently be used by Jolla which will make new devices for people like us N900 users Oh, and CSSU now has a new branch - enter CSSU-Thumb2. To explain it will be too TL;DR, just go and read the first post And that's just tip of the iceberg. Also I've downloaded and installed this week's Nemo Mobile on my MicroSD card, though it is by no means for everyday use |

QUOTE(menghao @ Oct 12 2012, 12:54 AM) hey man, thanks for your reply. Kasvopus has gone quite some way from that I guess. Only bugger is notifications not working yet. Otherwise it's a keeper for me.kasvopus ? usable? I tried it long time ago, but unable to use. tried to install but I just get black screen Nemo , tried it too . still unable to replace maemo... CSSU , I think I'm using that. Yappari 0.23 is up Nemo's platform is still not mature for normal user use, and was never intended to. Even as a tester who knows at least how to get around things to get them to work, the most I've accomplished so far in making it "usable" is being able to make and receive calls and SMS. Even then those functions are working in it's most frugal form (you know, the basic "dial the number" work) and are by no means complete. Also note my quotes in bold, I'll say that again just in case you skipped it: QUOTE Also I've downloaded and installed this week's Nemo Mobile on my MicroSD card, though it is by no means for everyday use Also, they're not using DEB, so you can't take DEBs meant for Maemo (or Meego Harmattan) and use it there. They use RPM instead, and uses zypper as their equivalent to Maemo's apt-get. Pretty much what you can get in Meego Netbooks. ... In the meantime, I've given up on Yappari because LOLWhatsApp does not let me register in anywhere else except their official client, which cannot be installed on the N900 (at least natively. I don't want to go so far-far only to get that one stuff working). What weirds me out even more about them is that they can make it for Symbian S60!! So in the end my sister who's using an N97 Mini can use it, while I just nganga only. Bah!!! This post has been edited by FlameReaper: Oct 12 2012, 05:27 PM |

QUOTE(menghao @ Oct 13 2012, 11:08 AM) Because S60 has more devices than Maemo and Meego. Presumably there was supposed to be more Maemo/Meego devices but thanks to Nokia's attitude...Read this man: http://taskumuro.com/artikkelit/the-story-of-nokia-meego |

QUOTE(menghao @ Oct 13 2012, 06:30 PM) It's all done by nokia , what to do , as a end user , we've no choice , we can't do anything to change the fact. No, no, they're not going to release the device. Too soon for that.wonder jolla mobile will have after sales support in malaysia or not . They're going to release their first flagship device on next month. still don't have any news or photos regarding to their meego OS. What they're going to do next month is show the software first. Kind of a demo of how Sailfish (Jolla OS) will look like and function. Not device. They'll announce expected device availability much later. QUOTE(Patent @ Oct 31 2012, 06:54 PM) Not much I guess, now you can somehow run android applications on N900 As the author of Apkenv himself says, NITDroid is much more practical for that. It's like you're trying to run WINE for Windows apps on Linux when it is much more practical for the app to run on its native platform. That Apkenv is just a compatibility layer on top of Maemo, it doesn't really run the app natively like you would on an Android device.http://wiki.maemo.org/Apkenv I really feel like picking an Android right now but at the same time want to wait for Jolla.. |

QUOTE(mashimarow @ Mar 12 2013, 07:39 PM) Guys, my phone kind of lag lately, I open conky and surprice to see the Home is only 3% left(75.42MB)! while my rootfs still have 35%(79.81MB) Your home folder is, /home/user, no surprise.Which folder is consider as Home? the Opt folder? I hardly install anything, I uninstall a few obsolete program and got back about 10MB(before is about 65 something), where the rest goes? edit 12/3 : I uninstall another game and oracle java and manage get back another 50MB to 6% now (123.18MB) but still a long way, where all the space gone? By normal means you won't be able to access this folder on other machines except you use SSH or SFTP. Locally (on the phone) itself you'll be able to access it via the terminal, so to put a rundown of what you need to do: Figure out config folders of apps you don't really use anymore. Highlighted that in red and in bold, because it's important so that you do get to know what's inside the /home/user/ folder. One mistake for one app and your settings for that one app all goes ka-pish. Those folders are usually hidden and they usually have a period ( . ) prefix before the folder name. Identify those folders and delete them. By the way do take note some folders especially /home/user/MyDocs. This folder is where your N900's internal storage is, and the one you usually access when you plug in your N900 via USB Mass Storage mode on PC. Also one of the possible causes of lag (may vary from person to person) is because of your uptime, where heavy swapping occurs between the phone's internal RAM and the swap memory of the phone. Usually what I'd do is a reboot when the lag gets too unbearable (I've missed several calls thanks to it!). One more thing: I recommend issuing the command (as root): CODE apt-get clean in order to clean the files your app installers (Application Manager, Faster Application Managers, apt-get, what have you) have downloaded. Oh, also as a heads up to you guys still expecting updates and new stuff from the Maemo.org guys - N9 peeps also take note:
As of current, Maemo.org's auto-builder service is currently down, they'll need time to get it back up before we can hope to see any new updates and stuff. This post has been edited by FlameReaper: Mar 15 2013, 10:09 PM |
