Nothing beats N900 so far.
I use Joikuspot.
However the WiFi by N900, it's not detected by my Android tablet.

All other devices (eg iPad, & notebooks) can see if just fine.
No necessarily need for Joikuspot IMO, though I haven't been able to testify how good that is. I have here two apps that can do the same thing (and even use USB tethering), look for the keywords "Mobile Hotspot" in the repository.
One of them I'm using, called Qt Mobile Hotspot, gives you a set of drivers you can use to initialize N900's USB host mode LAN on Windows.

Uh, I don't see why not, just most N900 apps are optimized for N900 use (especially with physical keyboard integration and resistive touchscreen input etc), so there's high chances that the app must be reoptimized for N9 use.
