Yes, because to compare both kernels, I need to make both of them at the same settings, SO 1.2ghz with UV vs speedmod 1ghz is not comparable.

i see. in the end i still prefer speedmod. just that it lacks OC. i wonder why he doesn't want to implement OC to his kernel

Not that powerful, can play upto 720p officially. For full hd (1080p) need a more powerful device like tegra2 based one like motorola atrix or lg optimux 2x.

If you wish, you can underclock and undervolt. That will make the battery lasts even longer. I once set it at 600mhz max long time ago. It seems ok, boleh pakai punya. 400mhz cannot, became laggy laugh.gif

guys. i'm trying out Doc rom now.
in the middle of downloading the rom.

due to the reason that this is the first time i try this. I hope someone can tell me on the best way to flash to doc rom from Darky 9.2?

my phone is on ext4, speedmod kernel.

do i need to disable lagfix before i flash to doc rom?

should i flash the phone back to a stock rom before I flash to doc rom?

thx.

If you choose js3 base, then a non-wipe should be sufficient. Some people here are reporting that no need for disabling lagfix. addon: Of course, a wipe version will be better. just make a titanium backup

however, if you run into trouble, the best way is to start from scratch: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=926399 It is advisable to disbale lagfix and tweaks, and use wipe version.

Just remember to make a backup: apps+data, sms, call log, etc

Why don't you try it for yourself icon_rolleyes.gif I've been getting better battery life and smoothness using speedmod than super optimized kernel after switching back and forth between different versions. I'll try tegrak sometime soon.

Added on January 30, 2011, 4:15 pmTS, got a few suggestions for firstpage

1.:For battery calibration, I'm not sure of draining the battery till empty will do the li-ion battery any good. I read that it'll do harm if it's below 5%. need more clarification from battery experts.
- For step 6, not sure if root access is needed but you can also delete batterystats.bin from sgstools or from recovery mode.
- I usually just charge till full, reboot into recovery and delete batterystats from there. Again, I don't know the best way to calibrate the battery. My method seems fine.

2.Modem testing
can add link to the apps. easier, no need users to open market app. speedtest:
Lbstestmode can be started by dialling *#*#1472365#*#* or can be accessed from sgs tools app.

3. Before flashing
Besides checking if 3 button combo is working, need to backup IMEI too by making a copy of the /efs folder.
See this: http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s/...tml#post1367506 Needs to be rooted.

i was thinking to give a try.. but from that kernel seems new to me, then a lot of replies in that thread showing majority of them using docs kernel. Thats y im asking if there any of u that on dark side using/tried this kernel. tongue.gif

QUOTE(freakfingers12 @ Jan 30 2011, 04:42 PM)
Tried it weeks ago. Yes u can flash it over speedmod/voodoo as it uses ext4 too. From there, just convert to onenand mode (I assume that's what ur after) but too bad for me, I have a lot of data so onenand mode doesn't work out for me. Battery life was pretty good, like speedmod btw.

ouh u freakfinggers i saw u asking some question to tegrak.. im really proud coz there is malaysia flag in that forum. tongue.gif . ey how fast the onenand mode? i dont have any ideas. and how much do i need to reserve space for this kernel?

p/s: want to give a try to doc's rom after seeing two regular sifus here using it (alvinz & freakfinggers) notworthy.gif

Tried both Doc / Darky's

Darky screwed up 9.0 and 9.1, FCs/Hangs/Batt Drains.

In summary for those who are still undecided.

For now, Doc > Darky's

And no need to worry about any lagfix anymore, you don't need them anymore since the kernels now a days now are already pretty good.

You guys won't regret moving to doc's rom. He a real pro biggrin.gif

I have a secret. I know I have been ushering you guys into trying doc's since I first joined this thread but I myself haven't even press the generate button yet biggrin.gif The last rom i tried was the stable one before doc and stefunel introduced the kitchen. Been happy with insanity rom rclxm9.gif because there were less posts in nitr8's thread. I like to read everything before flashing a rom and I cannot keep up with doc's rom anymore rclxub.gif

Sure. Have to complete two steps prior:
1. Have to be rooted
2. Install terminal emulator

Next, open up the terminal emulator and type in the commands:
CODE
$ su
this is to elevate your privilege into superuser or admin. Press enter
CODE
# busybox tar zcvf /sdcard/efs-backup.tar.gz /efs

You'll notice that $ becomes #.
- busybox is the program that makes the following commands work
- tar: takes the /efs folder and compress it into .tar.gz format
- the tar.gz file is stored into your sdcard folder as efs-backup.tar.gz
CODE
# cat /dev/block/stl3 > /sdcard/efs_dev-block-stl3.img

This just copies it into the .img file

When you are done, copy both .tar.gz and .img files into your computer/dropbox/somewhere safe.

This is just one method using terminal method. Using adb, of course is possible. I think with the adb way, you not need to be rooted.
