If ever your N8 failed to boot up (mean pressing the power button but no response), do as follow:
1. Verify is it a SW hang by long press the power button >7.5 seconds to force shutdown the N8. This is for SW hang scenario 2. Plug in the charger and wait for AT LEAST 15 minutes, then try to boot up. This is for depleted battery scenario 3. If you are SURE the battery not depleted and got the DEAD N8, send to NCC for checking as it might be defective hardware related issues.
From experience, the N8 can't be Hard Reset once it's failed to boot up normally or so call "DEAD N8".

3. Go into an enclose place (total darkness needed) wait for a while (to let our eyes get use to the darkness) and view into the phone screen.
4. From what I've observed the phone AMOLED will start to turn off start at "ST BLACK-04.bmp", "ST BLACK-03.bmp", "ST BLACK-02.bmp", "ST BLACK-01.bmp",
"ST BLACK-00.bmp".
5. The screen dark "stains" will sufface as well during these few color cards.
6. Start from "ST BLACK-05.bmp" onward the dark "stains" will be not so visible.
7. All these have to be done in total darkness room as these defective "stains" are not visible at all when the surrounding are bright.
After you seen these result DO NOT simply bash N8 straight away as we're not sure why/how the AMOLED display technology work and how it perform on other
devices. Anyone can use these color cards to verify on others AMOLED display devices as well...

03. Default browser randomly crash and causing an auto soft reboot. (CONFIRMED) - when surfing mostly on those heavy site the browser will crash for no reason (confirm not cause by low resource). - try disable the "Java/ECMA script" might help on some heavy scripted pages.
04. Call Logs missing even set to keep for 30 days. (CONFIRMED) - Logs over flooded by network connection logs. - Logs having limited overall entry although set to keep for 30 days.
05. Screen won't be fully turn OFF after the charging complete popup message. (CONFIRMED) - Plug in the charger and let the phone to charge. - After the charging complete, a message will popup, do not disturb it and let the phone to turn off the screen as usual. - Turn off the surrounding light (a total darkness needed to observe the screen). - When look the screen in total darkness, you can see a grayish screen with some dark spots (dirty stains).
06. Silence Profile together with Power Saving Mode will result in TOTAL silence phone without any vibration alert. (CONFIRMED) - Select Silence Profile. - Activate Power Saver Mode. - Make a call to the phone. - Your phone will only got display incoming call but without any sound nor vibration alert AT ALL!!!
07. Incoming call Ringing stopped (silence out) if phone slightly turned or shaked. (PENDING CONFIRMATION) - Make sure the sensor setup disabled the "Silence Call" option. - Let the phone in Power Saver Mode and idling state (screen turn off). - Make a call to the phone and when the phone ring, slightly turn the phone or shake the phone lightly. - In some occasion the phone ring will directly silence out but with the incoming calling still active. - Please report back if you success to simulated the error.
08. Rapid charging with Nokia AC-8X charger intermittent stop charging in the middle. (PENDING CONFIRMATION) - Let the phone battery left about 10%~20%. - Use the Nokia AC-8X to charge the N8. - Keep checking the phone after a while. - Left the phone charge until full. - If the bug occur during the charging process when you un-plug the charger the phone will indicate the battery not fully changed.

01. KS Improvement - Improve on Kinetic Scrolling, now your list will be easier/faster/longer on kinetic scroll (you wil SURE feel the different)
02. UI Improvement - Experiment Mod - Experiment mods, changed the default FPS from 67FPS to 33FPS and max processing power from 75% to 100%. Need more users experience feedback on it's actual improvement (if it have any)
03. Landscape Dialer - To enable the phone dialer able to rotate same as others screen (not lock on just potrait mode)
04. Camera Sound Mute - Enable the camera sound to be mute when warning tone been turn off.
05. Continuous AutoFocus - You will have an EXTRA option under Video Setting that enable the Continuous AF during video.
For Mods #6,#7,#8, ONLY select 1 option, if multiple options selected the top most option will be use.
06. Photo/Video (100/30FPS) - Photo quality change the compression ratio from original 85/75/60 to 100/85/75, video will change from 25FPS to 30FPS and the capture audio quality will change from 128kbps to 256kbps.

18. Context Data Object Maximum Size Mod - Experiment mods, no significant effect after the mods.
19. Light Sensor Disable - Totally disable the Light Sensor, LCD will have 100% brightness all the time (will dim ONLY in power safe mode)
20. Haptics Improvement - Lower the vibration and fine tune level 1/2/3 haptics feedback (not must different as i can tell)
21. Vibration Alert Improvement - Same goes with haptics mods, can't really feel big different
22. Camera Full Shutdown (RAM) - Camera apps will fully shutdown once you close the apps (won't remain in the memory), but the N8 have better camera apps as the total shutdown and without only make ~1Mb ram saving (not like what we see in 5800xm as it's camera apps are memory whore)
23. Fast Screen Rotation - Can feel "a bit" faster but not lighting fast as the delay seem not from the sensor but rather from the UI.
24. FM Transmitter RDS - The FM Transmitter now send RDS "Nokia N8" and not just "Nokia".
25. Video Call FPS Improvement - Slightly change the video call setting fps from original min/norm/max of 5/10/15 to 10/15/20. Not tested as not really use video call.
26. MSG/LOGS/CONT/CLK/CAL Shutdown (RAM) - Disable Messaging, Logs, Contacts, Clock, Calendar Apps from staying in the background after you exit them.
27. Database Max Record Count - Experimental mod, Increase database from 20 to 50.
28. Default Application Orientation State - Change default orientation from Landscape to Hardware Sensor.
29. HWRM Process Priority - Experimental mod, Hardware sensor priority change from background to foreground.

yes and THAT's the problem... which mean u can uninstall critical component but NOT ALLOW to install back... same goes to those QT error after hard reset... easy to remove but impossible to restore...

i not sifu la anyway if u serious of photography its not about how powerful your gadgets is but the understanding of perspective that matters. These days alot ppl use DSLR but when u see the photos they are just ordinary.

DSLR is too expensive for me right now. N8 will have to do.
Alot people misunderstand about photography. If u master the basic of photography any camera will do wonders. If u can master your nokia N8 u will appreciate DSLR even more. To venture in DSLR the price is not cheap. When u start kitlens only can do so much and u start greedy and greddy so usually everything will end up 5k and above eventually

that one i am not sure... i only heard the other forumers said there's subtitle support after the recent software update... maybe is rename to be same name as the video file and it will automatically load it? and how come the Xiong is bolded one? haha

This is an example of good but not perfect transitions effect.
Finally an app that amazes me with its transitions. (A few made by others too)

Gonna enter 3rd weeks for replacing that cheap stereo handsfree..aiyo not repair lehh just swap. Can be done while u korek idong already No wonder la still got die hard AP fans outhere. And the best thing is, my place AP set much expensive than Ori set haha. Really shocked me that time. But wat to do this time wanna try on Ori set.

be patience lo nothing much we can do... But I'm sure even any other brand of phone warranty also takes time but if Nokia can enhance their repair and warranty claim service... This efficiency is surely a plus for users

there's total of 4 apps installed during the Big Screen apps, so for safe side u need to uninstall all and reboot b4 proceed further...
erm...i uninstall "social" only since i cannot find another thing called "social installer" in app manager.

1. reboot 2. install the v1.3 IF u don see both Social and Social Installer inside the app manager 3. after install, reboot 4. uninstall Social follow by Social installer, reboot 5. install the .wgz in E:\ then install the v1.2 (old) .sisx that inside my attachment 6. install the v1.3 directly, it will have 2 msg... 1st install complete then a few secs later it will start the widget installation, wait till it finish 7. after installation complete it will auto launch... 8. if still cannot, reboot 9. reinstall AGAIN the latest v1.3

install sklchan's mod. the 1st tone will be silent as default.

nop... it CAN'T... the Accessories setting are only meant for set how/which profile to use when certain devices been plug in... and inside the radio apps if we change to Activate Loud Speaker it will direct play through the speaker and not bt... when disable it will play through the headphone...

As long as u have proof of purchase aka receipt why worry?
With the FM Transmitter, you can play songs stored in ur device through any compatible FM Radio (Car Audio or Home Stereo System). This is not like Independence Radio that simply can be tuned channel to play by itself.

After my phone auto-reboot itself, seems like my lock screen isn't the same anymore. It won't show the black screen with big clock. The screen will just become a little bit darker with the lock icon at the top right.
Any idea how to fix it? I tried manual reboot a few times but the issue is still there.

Ok this is a normal bug with the N8. I would suggest one thing. Reboot the phone and make sure you chose a page on your phone with no internet applications. This would mean a blank page with inbuilt non wifi/3g applications like facebook, ovi blog etc. Your phone should lock normally.
This issue occurs because the phone will be constantly working and trying to connect and then it would lock without making the screen go black/black out. The method above works, trust me.. this is the most irritating bug ever that's on the N8.

i got this problem.. trying to install the 4.00 n8 mods after i signed the software using freesigned it will create a sisx file with certificate. i selected the sisx file for instalation and pass the certificate when select ok to finish instalation a pop up message appears " cant install file because of unknown supplier" (more or less la)..
im out of ideas right now, searched the net to resolve this supplier thing issue to no avail... hope you guys here can help me with this one
Actually, after the video update, I stop waiting for firmware update. As for now, my normal daily use is already good enough. Already lower my expectation after several firmware update release date rumor.

With the FM Transmitter, you can play songs stored in ur device through any compatible FM Radio (Car Audio or Home Stereo System). This is not like Independence Radio that simply can be tuned channel to play by itself.

Better they scrap out PR1.1 and focus on PR2.0, then announce the firmware will be 3rd quarter of 2011. So, any firmware update earlier than that will give them better reputation because they do not making to much false alarm.
they better just focus on releasing an actual stable firmware instead of what we got in the initial N8 one... i don mind the delays, in fact, software stuff really hard to measure the completion date at times, so just let them work on a proper bug fix...

U gotta need ur cert and key first from OPDA website (Currently site still down) but u may try HERE as well and then follow THIS STEP for signing the Apps

If u tuned ur Transmitter let say to channel 103.30, ur Radio must not be the same as it. Tuned it to free channel to prevent interferences

I like to hentam people, believe me. But I believe in hentam when they truly deserve it. When I bought the phone, I wasn't promised an update at x date or x time. So, for me, they havent break their promise with me.
I did hentam them kaw kaw when my fm transmitter malfunction, since it was a promised feature. Even though I never actually used it.
I usually use 107.9 the best free channel. Most are taken
same here. but still sometime got cross channel. don't know what channel, an old school RTM radio thing.

For firmware update, not official release date from Nokia. But Nokia is well known for their delay for their phone release like E7. Expected to release Q4 2010, but now already January 2011. Same with N8.

if your ram more than 4gb, i suggest you format your pc to windows 64bit.Don't worry about 32bit driver or software, windows 64bit will handle 32bit for you.

After my phone auto-reboot itself, seems like my lock screen isn't the same anymore. It won't show the black screen with big clock. The screen will just become a little bit darker with the lock icon at the top right.
Any idea how to fix it? I tried manual reboot a few times but the issue is still there.

I have another solution Switch off ur phone for 5 minutes Before u on ur phone use ur hand to cover the light sensor on top right side of screen Then switch on and dun remove ur hand that is covering the sensor Do it till the phone lock already only release This should solve the problem temporarily hopefully
I tried 3x n it works which made me suspect light sensor causing multiple trouble to our phone

It actually depends on location also 107.9 in setapak is some sort of malay radio channel which has reception very random Sometimes it is free sometimes it is not I use 106.1 for Setapak instead

If im not mistaken, the operating distance for the Transmitter is approximately 2 Metres. Interferences may caused by others electronic devices as well

my car is waja so the antenna is at the back too. But the sound quality is awesome. Altho have to turn the volume a bit higher.
For mine..really bad wor..Volume hv to up to 25 (Normal only 10) and mine is Cibik car wan the antenna is part of the same heater line attached to the windscreen..Very bad inteference.. That's is why I feel this FM transmitter thing really cacat.. Too bad my ori car stereo no Bluetooth..Otherwise I think transmitting via bluetooth will be much better kau? Anyone wth car streo wth Bluetooth wanna share the experience?

But my Honda City and Hyundai Sonata (2002) the reception is quite good Maybe due to quality of receiver also?

last time i was like... WUU nice game, but that time is right after xmas sales, i bought too many games, so finish those, then come back to dead space, but then format pc, and now the game is missing and yet to be found again... but really is nice game, maybe later dig the game out again
