Thx Benny, the download seem just stop at 6xxKB, total size of file should around 12MB.
What you meant is, if flash with JMG or JMI ROM, should use this .tar and put in the PHONE column to avoid mobile setting disable?
This way i unable to set my APN after flashed with Roto JMI previously?
*
The phone tar file is just to have your phone mobile network settings enabled back. You will have to input again apn settings. JMI does not have phone files . If you do full zip you will find phone feature missing unless you use upgrade mode from JMG. If you have been switching rom and kernel sometimes the phone mobile file is disabled. You can than just fkash again the phone tar only to enabled it. But why trouble just flash together with pda file. There is no harm. Such not necessary if the firmware file if unzip is broken down separately into pda, phone, csc file . In such case you need choose each file to flash.
if you wish you can just flash phone tar from various sources to find your best - only for the adventurous ( don't try any USA ones though )

BADA is a different operating system in some Samsung models. You have to find apps/games that are meant for Android O/S. S8500 is a BADA based phone , so any apps meant for BADA will not work on Androids platform.

I think is the good practice and advisable to backup before you flash any ROM or Kernel in your phone.
You may refer to post #3, Q6 for Backup and Restore procedure.

This is an interesting app develop by Google. I tested it on my TAB together with my MAC - works perfect. It can also works on Windows

Let's say you are working infront of your computer and your TAB is somewhere not near you. You get a call or SMS or MMS, a voice mail or even a warning your TAB battery is low - this warning will appear in your computer

You just need to install the free app in the TAB and the related program in PC. Launch the app in TAB, sent a test to your PC ; uses either wifi or bluetooth. Once PC recieved notification is auto setup.

So when you recieved any of this, it will flag out on your PC

Refer here to download :

Hi Benny, do you try a backup method call 'Roto Backup' which created by Rotohammer. What are the differences compare with CWM backup method? Coz i am not familiar and haven't come across with 'abd'?

No. Roto is one of the early version - is not user friendly at all. The later versions by Chainfire ( CFRoot only on RFS ) and Modaco R3 are both excellent and very easy to use. I see no point using others. Both gives 100% backup and 100% restore .
Before that I purchased Kousch Rom Manager and also his Bootstrapper backup/restore app - wasted my money. Can backup but cannot fully restore - still same till now still very much in beta. Kousch solutions so far only limited to Europe Tabs and USA tabs

You can refer here how to use Roto backup:

Thx for explanation. You not only try 'hardware' of android but softwares to operate in android.
You willing spend money to gain the difference experinces. Yet, alot of your own experinces need learn from you.
BTW, what is 'adb'? I 'know' is somethings like 'cmd.exe' in Windows. But what apps need to install in order to operate it?

To use ADB ( Android Debug Bridge ) , you must first download and install Android SDK ( http://developer.android.com/sdk/ ) to your computer. Once this is done, then you use the Terminal in Windows ( or MS Dos prompt ) to issue Linux commands. In layman's terms, These commands will communicate between your phone and computer

In some flashing, example my Dell Streak - I have to use this method , issuing a series of Linux commands to first flash a new firmware of the phone. Subsequent updates were directly done on phone itself

You can also use ADB in the TAB itself . Just download install freeware TERMINAL
Launch it, start off with > su then follow by the rest of the commands
Some debugging works is best done on phone itself using such commands instead of installing an APK file

For example in my post under Tech solutions : How to findout whether your TAB has RFS default file system or EXT4 ??

Installed freeware TERMINAL from Market. Launch terminal. Input in following commands :

> su
> mount

You should see a list of mountable files of the filesystem. Scroll down and look for the entry:
/dev/block/stl9 /system and 'ext4' beside it. That means its in ext4 format. If you see 'rfs' beside it then its in rfs format.

OR you can use ADB commands with TAB connnected to computer. In computer launch MSDos command prompt ( or terminal) . Type the following commands:

> adb shell
> su
> mount

Added on February 5, 2011, 12:18 amYou guys should try the Android notification app I mentioned in post #226. Now my TAB is in my hall downstairs and I am upstairs. Just recieve a notification on my MAC the TAB is being charged and now reaching 99 %. Amazing!

Paul just released his official Modaco rom for the TAB R1 - no more beta. I like Paul's roms cos he has an online kitchen that one can customize what you want installed - a very good feature ; I dump off stuffs I don't need. You need to be a paid member of Modaco to enjoy this feature. I just need to pay £9.99 ( consider it a donation ) and I could customize all my smartphones ( Windows, Androids) according to my needs and " baked" it online. You can still download the full version if you are not a paid member

'TERMINAL' app, is that come together with Overcome 1.1.1 'Terminal Emulator'? But the command is start from '$' instaed of '>'?

P.S.
Just can't believe at this age of you (sorry, i just too straight) willing to learn (i meant you still keep learning this up-to-date technology, android).
You still have the 'heart' to learn and know so many stuff, even programming, since you not from this field.
Really unbelievable, trully!

Correct - Terminal Emulator. I was quoting based on PC ; sorry. In the TAB it is $. After you input su , return key you will see # - then you follow with new command

Thanks for your kind words. Just one word " interest". If one has interest , one can learn easily. Just need put in some effort, time , practice and dare to try. I used to tell my managers - it is not a matter of whether can or cannot but is more of whether you want or don't want to do it. BTW I am a retiree now, and one of my way to keep my brain cells alive is to keep on learning, the best way of exercising my greying brain cells

I am facing the same problem, it's not drag and drop issue.
It's just can't make the widget horizontally centre, like, Daily Briefing widget.

If you are referring to Samsung Touch Wiz interface, yes it cannot e adjusted . It is either aligned left or right. I never like Samsung UI as it is laggy and worse of all, the apps cannot be sorted alphabetically. Zince the days of Windows Mobile 6.5 and present Galaxy series SGS and even SGT, Samsung has never been able to match the scrolling smoothness of , say any HTC Windows Mobile6.5 /Android or iphone. Motorola UI ( Blur) on Android however offers better options in adjusting size/position of its widgets which is unique just be pinching/sliding the widget on screen

I replace it with ADW Launcher which has better features especially with latest ADW EX version, it is worth every cent I paid for it. You can also use the free version with only few lesser features. It is slick, smooth and very customizable. Another good replacement is Launcher Pro but I do not quite like it as it offers only vertical scrolling of apps ; I prefer horizontal paginated

I used Launcher Pro b4 on my SGS, it can be configure to use horizontal paginated if you wish. However, i stick with the Sconcau's TwGTG Launcher which i found smooth and beautiful.
Will have a try ADW EX for my TAB.
