Since u're on stock rom, i suggest u go to Samsung centre to replace the battery...seems like ur battery got a problem...

You have limited choices on stock recovery ; most obvious absent you cannot backup and restore roms, cannot flash roms . As of now you can only flash roms using ODIN RFS based roms , which to date the only best choice you have is Rotohammer JME, JMG and JMI
You will not have recovery installed unless you specifically change kernel example to MOdaco R3 or you flash Overcome latest rom ver 1.2.0 and above

And YES, you need to do more reading to understand this subject of kernel, rom flash, recovery etc

Hmm.. Ok. What should I do before going to samsung center? I have rooted the phone. Should I just unroot & uninstall z4root? And uninstall market access?

I do find it interesting that I've just posted quite a long post to guide someone on how to flash in a post just a few above yours, yet, you don't seem to be willing to read up.

You have to take a bit of effort to read and learn, and not just expect to be spoon-fed. I can understand when a person has problems and tries to seek for help. But sometimes one must also take the effort to learn.

Especially in this case where the information is all there within the same page a few of your questions have been posted.

Please don't assume that I'm trying to jump on you. That's not my intention. Flashing ROMs, rooting and all can be fun and rewarding, but it's also a learning experience.

Try to read up, follow through and experiment, and when you get stuck, which we all do, try to give more descriptive information to allow us to help you troubleshoot your problems... not just one line questions and expecting us to know what exactly the problem is...

I would love to help you out, but without effort on your part as well, it can be trying as well. So, now your in stock now....and you want to try a custom ROM like Overcome. That's a good choice. Refer to my post in the previous page, (in my post there, I've included a link to Corodius' excellent page on XDA to guide newbies like yourself on the basics. I suggest you start there) and lets take it from there?

That would be a good idea... although the last time I had a problem that required them to replace the main-board, I was already on the Modaco ROM, and they didn't even questioned it... took them 5 working days to get back my Tab from that problem....

Sorry thepitbull, dont mean to ignore u but I thought u're answering other technical issues which not related to me. I DID NOT ask how to flash. If I want to flash sure i'll read about it. I got battery issues & trying to figure out how to go to recovery. Then only I realised that the solution won't work on stock rom. I'm still quite happy with stock rom & dont have the need to change rom, for now. So next action is to go to samsung center to get it replaced, thus my follow up question is should I unroot or shoukd I hard reset it, clear enough for u?

Launch z4root and unroot it. Hard reset/factory reset will not remove root. Another LONG LONG way to remove root is to flash an official rom on it

Nah no worries, mate...

In theory you should unroot it before you send it back to a Service center. Officially it invalidates the warranty, though... so be safe and just unroot it. Good luck mate.

You are right. My last Galaxy S I brick it 3 times ( just to test and experiment beyond what the rom developers wishes ) . The officer who processed my units just smile when I honestly told them it was because of my test on flashing. I was not even charge a single cent - they just reflash the rom for me and I got my unit back within 2-3 hours

Again, like I mentioned earlier... if you're already on Overcome 1.2.2... when you check on your system information, you should be running a kernel that states frank@OVERCOME #8X or #9X --- basically any kernel with a revision number that's higher than #45...

Then there's absolutely no reason to go to 1.2.3, other than wanting a higher version number! There's absolutely no reason for it. Seriously. ;-)

I know for a fact that the developer's working on Overcome ROM 2.0 as we speak. Just hang in there... it should be here soon. It's in the over right now...

However, if you're really insisting on having the latest ROM number... just get the Overcome 1.2.3 UPDATER (and not the full version which will wipe your system...) and just flash it via CWM. That's it.

ALWAYS ALWAYS read the developer changelog before you update the rom. It just take a few seconds.
Normally most rom cooks will give you 2 options : a full zip - this will overwrite your old rom or a update zip which will not overwrite your data/settings/apps
A full zip is around 180 to 220 MB depending on the developer while a update zip ranges 20 to 40 MB

Overcome, example will state which version onwards the new update zip is applicable
