Hi,

Please add me as one of the Galaxy Tab user.
I owned GTab since December and just decided to root after reading all the posts here.

Before I do anything stupid, just a few stupid questions.
a) Z4root or SuperOneClick is better or easier to use ?
b) How do I backup before flashing ROM ?

hmm.gif

I do not have experience in Android system and hope gurus here can guide me.

I think I have problem with the battery because normally it will only last me 1 day and most of the time my son playing games. More than 50% of battery use was due to display with 10% brightness only. Is this normal for all of you ?

Kindly assist. thumbup.gif

if z4root cannot then use superoneclick. before flashing rom check ur bootloader is unsigned or signed. if signed then u need to download chainfire patch to make it unsigned first.

For rooting : simplest use z4root. If failed, than only use SuperOneClick

You cannot fully backup rom without rooting. Rooting will not and unlikely brick your phone. Is safe. After root, there are few ways to backup:

1. Backup your data/apps/settings : Titanium Backup or MyBackUpPro
2. Backup fully rom n data : Install a recovery program - advise us what is your rom firmware and will guide you best method

Yes, display usually takes up most of battery usage. So tune down brightness to acceptable level. Usage up to 80% is common

As far as I know, easiest way is to reflash. There could be a way to do it by pushing back the original files ( ramework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk ) from command prompt at PC ; but you need these original files first.

Before you installed a new theme, do a nandroid backup. In case you do not like the new theme, just restore back from recovery your previous rom

In layman's terms :

The kernel is the part of the Operating System that interacts directly with the hardware through device drivers that are built into the kernel. It provides following services : manage memory, control access to hardware, maintain file system, handle erroes, perform input-output services ex communication with PC etc

The rom is the other part of the OS where you have all your applications, the features

Rom developers several types : kernel only, rom only and kernel cum rom

Rotohammer develop for rom only. Paul of Modaco has his own kernel and also his own rom which can be used on other kernels. Recently Overcome wef ver 1.2 has built in hos own kernel together with his own rom

If you flash to Rotohammer - it si just a RFS file system rom. You can install Modaco kernel over it - choose the right zip file as he offer either maintain RFS or convert to EXT4 FS; read the thread properly
Overcome since after 1.2 , allows you install his kernel and rom together

My advise - spend some time reading those threads to understand their specifications. It is not difficult to understand
