I've always wondered something about the honour guards; Why are they using M16's? Shouldn't they be using the Lee Enfield rifle instead considering it was the first rifle we used to defend the nation?

The yanks uses the M1 Garand for obvious reasons and the Brits uses their current service rifle (L85 now, used to be L1A1).

The m16 was neither the first rifle we used nor is it our current service rifle. So, what's the deal?

haha, my first impression when I see them marching in is..

where is the chromium rifle for ceremony!

Wahahaaa....another of those single environment camos, seems that the US Army has still not learnt their lesson with the ACU.

Other than in the wasteland/mountainous areas,I see no probable (practical) use for these camo types....although its OK if the US plan to fight in Afghanistan for another 10 years!

(dammit, price is also expensive....RM600 a pop....just when I had the thought of buying one..... emm, better stick with cheap surplus M81 Woodland BDUs for now cry.gif)

hey, have you people noticed that the usual promotional photos showing the 'effectiveness' of a given type of camo they ALWAYS have the right environment, the right lighting and the right weather conditions and the camo will blend in perfectly, then camo enthusiasts will go "man, gotta get me one of those!!!"
(I'm looking at you,Multicam....)

Notice that the dude is standing "just right" where the wall is nearly his color? try moving him a few feet forward to the mossy part of the wall...blink.gif

Maybe it's better to follow the US Navy and Marines model, one type of camo for each tactical environment? Maybe they'll be a logistical bad dream and probably cost more, but wouldn't it be more tactically sound rather than a single so-called "universal" camo that would probably be defective in most situations ? (ACU,anyone?)

dude,that's a M1 Garand....mellow.gif

can still see the markings:

US M1
Cal .30
Springfield Armory

I also don't think the US military uses the M1 Garand in ceremonies anymore. Moved on to the M14 rifle already.
I especially like the one act (US Air Force,I believe...) where they juggle the rifle with each other, bayonets and all,as an officer walks between them, very impressive and nice!! biggrin.gif

for LIMA BAe has confirm that typhoon will be at the event,

as for MKM and F15SG, EF and SH, we have to wait for the FPDA excersice soon!

it exhilarating to see this craft together!

DCNS would be favored to sell corvettes to Malaysia

The French company DCNS naval construction is preferred to provide corvettes to Malaysia as part of a call for tenders for 24 copies, said Tuesday the financial daily Les Echos . "We received a letter of intent about a month ago, and since we are in advanced talks," he told the newspaper near the public group.

The Malaysian authorities, which require local assembly and transfer of technology, did not retain the other hand the German and Dutch Damen TKMS also candidates for this tender, specify Les Echos . The case could be completed by the end of the year, they added.

The building belongs to the family DCNS "Gowind" for missions "surveillance zone, the fight against piracy and terrorism, enforcement, fight against drug trafficking, environmental protection, humanitarian , search and rescue, maritime security, "said the DCNS on its website . These include corvettes able to deploy a helicopter or a drone.

PAK-FA flameout embarrasses Sukhoi
BY: VLADIMIR KARNOZOV MOSCOW 01:35 22 Aug 2011

Russia's MAKS 2011 air show closed with an embarrassment for Sukhoi, when the pilot of its second prototype PAK-FA/T-50 was forced to abort a take-off run after two bursts of flame erupted from the fifth-generation fighter's starboard engine.

The incident happened in front of about 200,000 visitors, who had gathered at Ramenskoye air base near Moscow on 21 August to watch a flying display.

Also referred to as T-50-2, or Side 52, the aircraft was forced to stop from a speed of around 100km/h, with Sukhoi test pilot Sergei Bogdan using wheel brakes and also deploying a brake parachute.

It stopped well short of the aerodrome fence, thanks to the 5,000m (16,400ft) length of the runway.

Sukhoi said the aircraft had suffered a technical malfunction but no damage, and that its pilot had acted "in accordance with manuals".

The company later attributed the issue to a "malfunctioning fuel supply system" and to the NPO Saturn Item 117 engine's full-authority digital engine control system.

To further Sukhoi's embarrassment, immediately after the incident the show's organisers promised the public that the first PAK-FA prototype would fly instead. This failed to happen, with the aircraft believed to have been sent for maintenance shortly after performing in front of Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin on 17 August.

Thales wins Malaysia vehicle contract

LONDON, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Thales-Malaysia will integrate an advanced open vehicle electronic architecture system for 257 armored-wheeled vehicles of the Malaysian army.

The contract was awarded by DRB-HICOM Defence Technologies Sdn. Bhd, the local company selected by the Malaysian Ministry of Defense for the design, development and manufacturing of the 8x8 vehicles.

Thales, in an announcement from the Defense and Security Equipment International exhibition in London, said that under the contract it will provide an integrated and scalable vehicle electronic architecture system that includes a wide range of new-generation equipment, such as communications, vetronics, sensors, command and control, mortar and optronics.

Its joint venture in Malaysia, Sapura Thales Electronics, will supply the complete HF and VHF radio communications system for the 257 vehicles.

Thales said it will integrate a state-of-the-art Open Information Communication System, branded as VSys-net, which enables voice, data and video information exchange within vehicles and externally.

Rheinmetall Nordic AS wins major order in Malaysia

Vingtaqs II observation system to be mounted on new all-terrain vehicles

Rheinmetall Nordic AS of Nøtterøy, Norway, a member of the Rheinmetall Group of companies, has been awarded a contract to supply the Malaysian armed forces with the Vingtaqs II long-range surveillance, observation and reconnaissance system. Rheinmetall Nordic AS is the successor company of Simrad Optronics AS, which Rheinmetall took over in summer 2010.

With a total volume of around €36 million, this is the largest single order ever booked by Rheinmetall Nordic AS or its predecessor Simrad Optronics AS.

The customer is DRB-Hicom Defence Technologies Sdn Bhd (Deftech) of Malaysia. The order also encompasses training, system integration and documentation.

The Vingtaqs II systems will be integrated into newly built AV8 all-terrain vehicles made by the Turkish company FNSS Savunma Sistemleri A.S., which are to be delivered during the period 2014 to 2018.“This contract demonstrates the terrific market potential of our new Vingtaqs systems. What’s more, because of our strong goal orientation and clear priorities, we were able to win this contract in less than two years”, declares Jon Asbjørn Bø, CEO of Rheinmetall Nordic AS, adding that “the order serves as a valuable reference for future sales”.

Vingtaqs II long range – surveillance, observation and reconnaissance system
The Vingtaqs II accurately determines target coordinates at long distances from the vehicle forward observer position. A standalone system, the Vingtaqs II can be integrated at low cost into a wide variety of vehicles. The system also accommodates instrumentation for laser-designated targeting, enabling it to support forward air controller operations. Moreover, thanks to a high degree of modularity, it can be readily configured to meet individual customer requirements.
