This Maybankard 2 Amex will kill Amex Gold and Platinum credit card. The negative impact to Amex charge card is not as big as the disadvantages to Amex credit card, as some big spenders still prefer using charge card due to unlimited CL.

Hopefully Amex will revise its points and cash back rates to match those benefits given by Maybankard 2 Amex, so that we do not need to change our existing Amex credit cards. Besides, having the compulsory and useless Maybankard 2 VISA/MC is deemed a burden.

Only one credit card tax is charged anyway. So it won't affect much really.
*
Just don't like to see another card in the cold storage, especially with that ugly logo.

It is easy to clear MR points as we can redeem cash. As for TP, it is not as attractive as MR. We can only redeem physical stuffs and shopping vouchers.

Maybankard 2 Amex Credit Card
Free Annual Fee
2 credit cards for 1 GST (RM50/RM25)
5 x Treat points for all transactions (Amex)
5% Cashback on weekends up to RM50 (Amex)
8.88% Finance Charge
Travel Insurance up to RM1m, Purchase Protection, Extended Warranty (Platinum)
Access to KLIA & LCCT Plaza Premium Lounge(Platinum)
*
As far as I know, this Maybankard 2 Amex does not give complimentary access to airport lounges at this point in time. Better edit the first page to avoid misleading readers.

Have any1 made rough calculations on how much 1TP is worth? Most of the RM100 vouchers need +-20k TPs?
*
1 TP = RM0.0045, based on redemption of 11,000 points for RM50 shopping voucher.

1 MR = RM0.005, based on redemption of 200 points for RM1 cash back.

MR is definitely better than TP.

Latest by next week you will see if your card is approved in the system, then it will take another week or so to send your card. Hopefully can get it by CNY.
*
I have just applied for this card through phone this morning. The CS officer said the card could be approved in 4 to 5 working days and I would receive the card in 2 weeks from now. I shall wait and see how efficient MBB is.

Jusco RM100 voucher = 20k Tpoints
https://www.maybankard.net.my/catalogue/pro...e=89&pro_id=228

Parkson RM50 voucher = 9300 Tpoints
https://www.maybankard.net.my/catalogue/pro...e=89&pro_id=505

Metrojaya RM50 voucher = 9000 Tpoints
https://www.maybankard.net.my/catalogue/pro...e=89&pro_id=504

Treatpoints is not "that" bad
*
RM50 vouchers for Carrefour, Giant and Tesco all need 11,000 TPs. If RM50 shopping vouchers for Parkson and Metrojaya still require less than 10,000 TPs now, better redeem them fast before MBB raises the points requirement.

However, I still prefer cash redemption from MR programme. I can actually earn more points and cash by redeeming cash back. For instance, I can use 10,000 MR points to redeem RM50 cash back. Then I can use the RM50 cash to buy stuffs in hypermarket and get another 50 x 5 = 250 MR points, equivalent to another RM1.25 cash back.

Sorry guys for giving the wrong information on KLIA lounge. This was the information given by the AMEX CS on the 18 Jan. Today I called them back to check on this after reading the post here and they said Maybankard2 does not entitle for the KLIA lounge. It's worth to keep the AMEX Plat card then.
*
While Amex Platinum charge or credit card could be retained for airport lounge access, Amex Gold credit card MUST be replaced with Maybankard 2 Amex. I cannot find any good reasons for not switching over to Maybankard 2 Amex from Amex Gold cc.

If you take a look at Maybankard2, the benefits can over take AMEX Plat CC easily. Another concern is are we willing to fork out RM800 AF for AMEX Plat when we have this Maybankard2 as rewards are better with this card.
*
In terms of physical benefits, Amex Platinum charge or credit card has no way to compete with Maybankard 2 Amex. However, someboday mentioned that his/her main concern was about the complimentary airport lounge access. He/She may need to retain other cards that come with airport lounge access.

Are you referring to that yellow color Maybankard logo?
For me, that logo kinda spoils the whole thing. If it wasn't for that, the card looks good actually.
*
Yes, I really don't like to see MBB logo. But it's too bad that the real Amex can't match the benefits offered by the new Maybankard 2 Amex.

Note: 1 million payout for month of January 2011 has been achieved.

Damn! If that's the case, the cash back payout for December 2010 could be hit much earlier (could be before 20th). I swiped my Amex after 20-12-2010.

i wanna ask if i purchase at metrojaya, Mid Valley, will i be entitled for the 15% cash back + 5x point?
*
For the current Amex cards (not Maybankard 2 Amex), purchases made at Metrojaya departmental store give you 2x points only + 15% cash back (current promotion, applicable only if the RM1 mil payout per month is still available).

hmm .. i read here.. sytating at least 5 K for this mbb platinum card..
but .. as for platinum card.. should the monthly income that low ?

this one lagi teruk .. he told me 2.5 K income per month onli :s
*
Bear in mind that sales agents will go all out to lure customers applying for cards so that they can hit the sales target and get their commission. They could ask a customer who is not qualified for Platinum card to apply for Gold card first, but in the end, the customer will only get Gold card instead.

No matter what, the new Maybankard 2 Amex is one of the best card in market now, regardless of whether it is Gold or Platinum. Just go for it!

Since my Amex Gold CC just got charged RM50 service tax, should I wait till year end only apply for M2 CC? I'm thinking to apply, but do not think it is worth to pay another RM50 again...
*
You have to do your calculation. If the 5% cash back during weekends and 5x TPs can give more than what you pay for the RM50 service tax, then you should apply for Maybankard 2 Amex IMMEDIATELY.

got it .. thanks.. misunderstood earlier biggrin.gif
so it is rm 50 (the cash back)... i thought rm 50 is the max spending with 5% as cash back from the spending amount x..x
*
Even if your spending during weekends has already hit the maximum RM50 cash back per month, you still can enjoy 5x TPs for every RM1 spent everyday (including weekends). These 5x TPs for everyday and additional 5% cash back for weekends make this card very sexy!

Thanks winner.
By the way, M2Amex foreign rate is at 1.5% right? Do you all think it is worth to use M2Amex for overseas usage on weekend for the 5% rebate? After deducted 1.5% foreign rate, I think we still get 3.5% rebate. Correct me if I'm wrong...
*
It's 2.5%, as stated in its T&Cs. If you spend in overseas during weekends, you will get 5x TPs + 5% cash back - 2.5% admin fee for foreign currency conversion. After all, it is still a good deal. However, you must know the time zone difference between Malaysia and the foreign country if you spend during weekends.

Thanks for the update. I'll be going to SG soon so I'll rely on OCBC Titanium, and still considering should I get M2Amex to replace my current Amex Gold CC... still waiting for my 15% cash rebate... otherwise I would have already canceled it... tongue.gif
*
You still can apply for Maybankard 2 Amex now and terminate your Amex Gold cc after you have received your Maybankard 2 Amex and 15% cash back in full. I'll do this definitely. I couldn't find any reasons why we should keep our Amex Gold cc after receiving the 15% cash back, for those who have obtained Maybankard 2 Amex.

Once you have the Maybankard2 combo, use the Maybankard2 Visa for lower forex admin fees (0.5%)

Using Maybankard 2 Amex in overseas will save more, if you are not a big spender. It is because of the 5x TPs for everyday and additional 5% cash back for weekends.
