Sorry for OT

XiaoMi's price is just so tempting, best bang for the bucks. MIUI is nice, and the fact that the phone does not have a locked bootloader, and 310USD price tag, cant wait to see what the folks at XDA will squeeze out of it.

Surprised to see the Desire Z still appealing to people close to 1 year after it was launched.
*

Coming from G1/HTC Dream, desire z is the only kb available from HTC. Plus, adreno 205 is a good investment, still on par with desire s/IS etc smile.gif
and the price tend to stabilize after a few months tongue.gif got mine for 999

QUOTE(limeuu @ Aug 26 2011, 12:31 AM)
it's the only htc with physical keyboard, so it will continue to be on sale, till a replacement comes out....

and i still got no notice of 2.3 upgrade.....does the fact that it's an AP set from uk anything to do with this?......
*

Was hoping for a possible replacement from the Mytouch 4G Slide, but the desire z's design is much more appealing. Hope HTC will come out with another kb device! kb ftw nod.gif

I got my GB update right after I turned it on, you can do it manually by going to Menu>setting>about>software update it will download and install it automatically
or you can always flash virtuous sense from here Virtuous Sense v2.0.0 which is what i'll be doing tomorrow, cant live without root tongue.gif and got annoyed with the bloated apps

to all, there is another MIUI rom released, the dev seems to be consistent in compiling the latest MIUI version, it comes with virtuous OC daemon and memory management, Bulletproof MIUI here

yeap, the Music app problem in MIUI is a know problem, and tun4fish said that it is a problem from MIUI itself, check out the last part of this post, it'll help to prevent the problem from occurring
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...502&postcount=2

and i wish Motorola would unlock their bootloader in their future products! Imagine Sense on a Moto lol

ah, right, htc sense requires its own compatible kernel, so unless another non htc device's kernel is modified to be compatible, it wont work.hahaha, it is alright cant wait for ICS, hopefully the vanilla interface is updated with some nice UI without affecting performance too much.

Btw, there is a leak of the upcoming Sense 3.5 and it is said to be less hardware intensive, meaning we might be able to get it! hahaha tongue.gif but it looks a bit MIUI-ish, full details here http://j.mp/rdpS73

^how is the ZAGG shield for the back side of the phone? is it a clear finish or matte finish?

might buy one coz i heard the aluminium plate has a coating that tends to peel off, how many of you have this peeled coating issue =P

am not using ZAGG,use carbon instead.cheaper.lol
its clear btw,not matt.the thing covers the aluminium back cover really well.the downside is the thing doesn't protect camera lens and the corner of the shield if not pro really easy to peel off.
*

ah, i better get a proper casing then, but it would definitely add up to the thickness, or more like brickness haha tongue.gif

QUOTE(limeuu @ Aug 26 2011, 11:49 PM)
still no update for me.....i think mine's is a uk set, i read they are upgrading the open sets, but not telco tied sets?

is there any way, based on the software info, to determine what type of set i have?.....

build 1.34.707.3

if you really cant stand it, you can either root and install virtuous sense which is mostly stock with few tweaks brows.gif or use an RUU

to all, if you are using any GingerBread build, I would recommend installing GingerBread Ghostly SMS as there are unexplainable situations of missing SMSes from numerous GB roms on numerous devices. this is a known issue in GB. personally I have managed to recover 6 SMSes in the last 2 months on my G1 doh.gif

This app works by acting as a listener to any incoming SMS and saves them faster than the stock or any 3rd party SMS app.

detailed explanation of the issue and the app is here Gingerbread Ghostly SMS

this sms issue is a bug in the core AOSP of GingerBread build, the problem occurs when the OS kills the sms app (regardless of stock or 3rd party) due to GB auto memory management before it has enough time to save it to disk

Gingerbread Ghostly SMS solves this as it uses very few RAM and quickly save it to it's own database, and if you install it, you would notice that the Ghostly app would sometimes receive the sms up to 2 seconds faster. so far on my desire z, one sms was recovered, and this was when the phone was asleep not doing anything, no opened apps doh.gif

Been following the update on evil D's doubleshot, it has improved a lot in just 2-3 days nod.gif for those looking for slim rom, try xboarder's aosp+cm, the zip file is 90mb only, lol

QUOTE(luminescence69 @ Aug 26 2011, 05:31 PM)
the invisible shield would indeed protect the phone from scratches, but I'm looking for something that protects it from impact as well...
Any idea if anyone is still selling the "Barely There Case" for this model?...  icon_question.gif

If we can't download it due to android market's geographical restriction, install Market Access or Market Enabler. it'll emulate US's or other countries' carriers. No more restriction! biggrin.gif

another alternative is to use AppBrain and it's fast install option. If i am not mistaken, fast install would download the apk file directly from their own server

guys, need some help here...
Been trying to root my phone for the past 2 days but been unsuccessful all the way.. the closet I got was with the visionary app which ended up freezing half way and slowing down my hone to a crawl.  cry.gif
wanted to try the gold card method but it says that i need a rooted android device to begin with..
Anyone here can give me a hand in this?..  icon_question.gif

It is not advisable to use visionary because it may brick your phone. what is your current version of HTC Sense? is it the latest gingerbread one? if it is, just follow this guide to downgrade and then root it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...118&postcount=6

using the XTC clip would cause permanent s-off, and it is not reversible unlike the software mod posted above(permanent s off = harder to claim warranty if anything happens to your phone). the method stated above requires a bit of command prompt action but it is easy, just follow the instructions given. Good luck thumbup.gif

first, go to adb on your pc and type adb devices and press enter. our device should be stated there, so adb is working. proceed to typing this one below.
CODE
adb reboot bootloader

now you would be in fastboot mode. now open up fastboot from your pc and type in fastboot devices to verify that the connection is working. Then, type this
CODE
fastboot oem boot
at the command prompt you would find the CID code.

hahaha, it is okay bro, baby steps, im sure you'll get a hang of it in no time. just read the guide thoroughly before doing them. You should be fine if you follow them.

In the rooting section (which is the 2nd link) use the latest gfree method. 0.7 i think. once you are done, you can install a pre-rooted official GB sense, or virtuous sense 2.0 which adds in a few tweaks, or other custom roms, there are many roms suggested in the previous posts. try em! happy flashing thumbup.gif

i am quite curious on these 3rd parties extended batteries. Have you guys tried other brands like SunGlobal and Andida? how do they perform as compared to Mugen's?

an update to the upcoming HTC Sense 3.5, watch the UI in action HTC Sense 3.5 video. Now i am doubting about it being less hardware intensive

the loudspeaker is definitely not one of the stronger points of the phone.

web browsing is great for me. one of the better keyboard android phones IMO. my z hinge is nice and tight, if you received a loose one, you can tighten it up(refer first post for guide). The features of HTC Sense has given this phone a very good package, and with the currect market price of 1k, this phone is a good deal.

For reviews, you can read them at the first post, read the Desire Z's ones not G2. and you can look for more reviews online, or youtube. DZ also has a wide choice of custom ROMs available.

I have used the GPS without data, as long as i am directly under the sky ( not inside a building etc) the GPS locks very fast, but slightly slower than with data enabled. just slightly.

You can try using an app, GPS Status, to reset the cached locations etc, it might help
