Today I tried to root my Desire..it failed. It always got on Internal Error: Installing package failed. HTC Sync/etc. are all uninstalled. I tried to do this on my Mac and it also failed. I guess I have to hard reset my phone..Oh well. I'll do it when CM7 Stable comes out

you uninstalled the drivers also ka bro?you just need to uninstall HTC Sync only not the drivers...dont give up bro...come to the darkside...

Install HTCSync, then uninstall it via add or remove programs, without removing the driver . Presto

It's been 10 days since i last switched to Oxygen RC6 ROM. Heard that Nightly CM7 just came out.

A few question need to ask.

Do i need to do from step 1? it looked to me that step 1 is just a guide for root.

for question 2, i d/l the google app , and when i try to download the CM 7 ROM, it has 2 files, do i need to download both?

I am kinda confused here. Any simple guide for me to flash this rom?? And it's a Gingerbread ?

How did the 2.5.0.7 Clockworkmod get into your phone in the first place?

You downloaded something like reflash_package.exe from unrevoked site right?
<If this isn't the way you did it, look @ red colour> If you know this method, read on..

^ Download this .img

Now run the reflash tool .exe
*Do not plug in your phone to PC YET*
Press Ctrl+R (or under File, Custom Recovery..)

Find that 2.5.1.8 img you just downloaded.

Plug in, detect, press Ok, and don't do dangerous shit on ur pc for few mins then once it says ur done, check your phone's recovery version.
^ Mind you I tried .zip way as mentioned by others, it will NOT work.

This *may* be the only way to do it.

If you DID NOT do this way, DO IT THIS WAY.
Or repeat however method you root your phone but change the sequence with 2.5.1.8.
The result should be the same.


P.S: The moment you can't perform nandroid backups, something is wrong with the recovery. Spamming wipes is a bad idea <since on old rom>, you should always aim for a backup first and not wipe spam and try again unless u just got your phone then..it's okay I guess :l

If say that, my htc desire slcd's motherboard failed due to heat, if I send back for warranty, how would you put the latest RUU rom into the phone? What would happen if hardware fail? O.O
If it failed, and they replace it, if they know u rooted then how? lol x]
