I do not like the UHR. A designer with Nomos said that a watch should return your gaze. Which he says is difficult with a minimalistic design. The UHR lacks this expressiveness.

what do you mean?

What he means is the watch should be so reflective that you cant read anything but see yoru own face on it, ie you can use it to adjust your hair etc during dinner.

Anyway, the good thing about watches is... its beauty lies in the eye of the beholder

Not for me, I dont do gold.... even my wedding ring is like 90% plat and 10% gold just to be a little traditional.

Nobody wears gold anymore. It's out of fashion.

But like jade and linen, it is something humans instinctively like. Was part of humanity forever. Warm in many ways.

The fashion du jour is for huge blocks of stainless steel in about the size of alarm clocks.

What is remarkable about the Nomos Tetra is that it does not look elaborate, a look people associate with gold. The shape makes the gold look contemporary. Relevant. Non-fussy.

You could cut someone with those sharp edges. I used to associate gold with old age, but I have come to like it. My next watch would prolly be gold in colour. Lange and IWC are pushing honey gold; I haven't fully come to terms with that colour yet.

You can blame RichardM for the alarm clock wearing trend.

Pocket watches preceeded wrsitwatches by something like 200 years. For a short transitory phase, people wore watches with pocket watch movements on their wrist. It was a very, very brief period. A miniaturization of movements took place almost immediately as wristwatches became popular. Wristwatches were around the 30mm-36mm size for most of its (relatively) short history.

But nowadays people wear the Unitas pocket watch movements on their wrists. Willingly. Wristwatches have reached and in some cases exceeded the size of pocketwatches.

Jade is in today?
I still think Gold will never run out of fashion, those Indians ladies wear it like crazy.

well everyone is entitled to their opinions.

this reminds me of a quote: "Opinions are like assholes. Everybody's got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks"

that's what i did for my birthday, got myself 2 lovely seikos from ebay. hehe.

1- when u purchase from well known, top rated sellers, and those seller which have loads of feedback to back them up, then it will be authentic when they say it is. but of course, i cannot guarantee it. this would be applicable when u purchase from ebay. if other sites, like bodying, im not sure. but its al about reputation and their track record. general rule, if the deal is too good to be true, then it most probably is.

2- when buying from ebay, normally its either sent by registered mail, (2-3 weeks eventho seller from SG) or by express/expedite shipping like courier services such as DHL and FEDEX (4-6 working days). one of my watches was by registered mail, and another by fedex. i ordered them 3 weeks apart, i got them on the same day. sweat.gif and both are registered, meaning u will obtain a tracking ID from the seller.

3- watches are not taxable in malaysia rclxms.gif

ps- ebay would be my best choice of buying watches. but so far i've only bought seikos online. why? you could dispute and if and if you item is lost, still there's the ebay's buyer protection. i've personally won a dispute (non watch related). no worries. ebay takes very good care of their buyers, sellers are kept a close eye on.

my statements are by personal accounts, hope others will enlighten you and i with their own experiences icon_rolleyes.gif

cheers.

1. we don't like to post links to fake watches. U can negotiate with thewatchery.com and ashford.com. Prices are generally lower than AD. Collectorstime.com is a local, and prices is always lower than AD.
- thewatchery.com
- ashford.com
- collectorstime.com

2. yes
3. no local tax

watchseller.com is part grey, part AD. Prices are still fairly good.

What's the recommendation to polish off tiny scratches on the polished stainless steel case?

I tried Autosol but end up with lots of tiny scratches.

Drop it off your brand's service centre. 30 minutes later its nice and sparkling again. Well that's my last experience with longines anyway.
