Introduction Announced at Nokia's Remix event in London, at the beginning of October 2008, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is a mid-range, music focused phone, running S60 5th Edition on Symbian OS 9.4, with a 3.2 megapixel camera, integrated GPS, WiFi and HSDPA connectivity, and a 3.2 inch touch screen. It's the last item on this feature list which draws attention to what would otherwise be a fairly standard mid range phone. There's no doubt that it is going to garner attention, coming in the wake of the recent spate of touch phones, including, of course, the Apple iPhone. While it's not Nokia's first touch phone (Nokia 7700/7110) or its first recent touch device (Nokia N810), it is the first S60 touch enabled phone and is a significant landmark in Nokia's mobile device story. However, it is worth noting from the start that it is not "Nokia's touch phone", instead it is the first in a portfolio of touch enabled phones from Nokia. From firmware V20.0.012 onwards, the 5800's CPU clock was increased from 369MHz to 434MHz matching the N97 specification. However, improved overall performance can be observed at firmware V30.
On August 2009, Nokia announced a new variant named Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition. In addition to the normal Nokia 5800 it has the latest version of Ovi Maps pre-installed, loaded with a lifetime license of drive and walk navigation (which otherwise requires subscription on the non-Navigation Edition 5800). It also comes with a car charger and car kit inside the box.

General Information The Nokia 5800XM is a smartphone and portable entertainment device by Nokia. Code-named "Tube," it is the first touchscreen equipped S60 device by Nokia. It's part of the XpressMusic series of phones, which emphasises music and multimedia playback. The touchscreen features tactile feedback (though it doesn't utilise Nokia's upcoming Haptikos technology.). The 5800 has a compatibility mode for Java applications that are not touchscreen-aware. It works by using part of the screen for displaying the essential buttons required by the program.

What Is the product code on my Nokia 5800? Aren抰 they all RM-356 devices?
RM-356 is indeed the phone type for the Nokia 5800 XM. However the reason for different product codes is to enable a way for the phones, networks, update tools and other interested parties to know which network / country / version of the Nokia 5800 XM you have. Each network has it抯 own product code. Each colour variant has it抯 own product code. Each language pack has it抯 own product code. There are many of them.
So why do I want to change the product code on my Nokia 5800 XM? When Nokia release a new firmware, they tend to release it for the generic, vanilla, unbranded handsets only. Network / operator branded handsets don抰 see the same firmwares released at the same time, as the firmwares have to go to the networks and be branded / altered, then tested, then released. This means that network branded versions of firmwares generally aren抰 available for at least 2 months after the generic ones are released.
How can I find out the product code of my Nokia 5800 XM? The product code for your Nokia 5800 XM is written on the phone抯 ID sticker, which lives under the battery. The code is a 7 digit number and usually starts with a 0.
So I can use any product code, right? No, You have to be very careful about which product code you use. You should only use a code which you know will be OK on your phone. (Generally, most people will want to use a EURO1 code, or other language pack generic code) This thread has a comprehensive listing of Nokia 5800 XM product codes.
This is legal, right? Does this affect my warranty in any way? While it is legal to change the product code of your phone, it DOES void your warranty with Nokia (and your network) as you have altered the phone from the way it was configured when you purchased the phone.
Will I still get support for my Nokia 5800 XM? Generally, yes. Most Nokia service centres (certainly in the UK) won抰 mind that you抳e changed the product code. However, as a rule of thumb, should you need support for your phone, it抯 a good idea to ensure you change the phone back to it抯 real product code before seeking support. Nokia Malaysia (MY) WILL NOT repair phones with the wrong product codes, so if your phone is being sent to Nokia it is very important that the code is correct. Obviously this could be a problem if your phone is completely dead and can抰 be accessed your first point of contact in this case should be to talk to your local Nokia service centre and tell them that you need the product code changed back.

Original Sets - Nokia authorized distributors are Zitron, Avaxx and i-Mobile. - Sony Ericsson authorized distributors are T-Choice, Grandtech and Midlands. - First Mobile Group (FMG) is the main distributor of Samsung phones. - FMG is giving 18 months warranty. - Motorola authorized distributor are Satellite Technics, Zitron and MDM. - Siemens authorized distributors are Zitron and FMG. - You can service your phone at any service centres (Nokia Professional Centre, Sony Ericsson Certified Service Centres...) - 1 year warranty for the full set including charger, battery, handsfree. - Geniune parts are used for repairing.
AP Sets / Approval Products - Approval Products - Mainly imported from oversea and sell it to the consumers. - AP set warranty by companies such as Final Choice, CSL, Nefion, Telstra, GTMax...etc - 1 year warranty for the phone and 1 month for the accesories like charger, battery, handsfree. - You must bring your phone back to the place u bought the phone for servicing.
Water Set Stolen / Brought in from oversea without paying tax aka SIRIM Sticker. Considered Illegal. Mostly brought in by student studying oversea.
Tips & Guides
Tips 1 If you have an AP set with Vodafone or T-Mobile logo, it means that your phone might be locked. Those Vodafone or T-Mobile are the service operators in the UK and that's where the phones come from. Not all AP sets have the logo. AP sets are Approved Products which means that these products are certified by sirim that your product is safe to use.
In other words, AP product not brought in by the authorised distributor like Midland, T-Choice for SE, Avaxx or Zitron for Nokia, FMG for Samsung and etc. The phones can even come from Singapore and may even have the M1, Singtel or Starhub logo. Remember to check the phone if it is locked especially those from Singapore and Vodafone.
Tips 2 AP sets has different level of QC. Big AP companies like Final Choice, GTMAX, Nefion, Telstra, O'Connors have extensive QC checks. Others like MSL, YS, PLANTRONICS or names not mentioned above, are slightly cheaper than the above. Whether they replaced their parts with other stuff, its another question.
Tips 3 AP set actually pay government tax but is juz that they are not taxed by the Local Authorised Dealer. AP set is normally distributed by small handphones companies and they might stop business anytime. Futhermore if there's major damage on your AP set, the AP companies might not have enough equiptment to fix it. At the end, they still have to send it to the authorized dealer (eg. Zitron, Avaxx).
Tips 4 Like what everyone else have said, a phone without a SIRIM sticker is considered as illegal and thus cannot be sold here. But I'm gonna assume that if the phone is not available here, it should be better. And besides, if you bought the phone from overseas and bring it back here to use, don't tell me it would be illegal to use it right?
Speaking of buying a waterset from a shop, they might say that you did not inspect it properly before buying and thus you are at fault. So yeah guys, if you wanna buy a phone, do yourselves a favor and do these few things:
- Check for SIRIM sticker (this is a MUST. Everyone should know this). - Cross check IMEI numbers on the phone and the box - Ask for warranty card. - Ask if the warranty card needs to be sent to wherever necessary. - Check all the features of the phone (iow, play with the phone, make sure everything is working). - Check for dead pixels. - Check the firmware if possible (*#0000# for most nokias). This way, you can check if it's old stock or not. - And of course, make sure you get the propper set. As in nothing missing like the handsfree and stuff.
Watersets are usually sold without accesories, only phone and charger. So sometimes if you add up buying the accesories elsewhere, it might cost near the same as buying a proper set. There are reconditioned set might be known as water set, so beware while you buying. Recond set are second hand handphones from overseas, they juz change the phone cover (might not be original cover) and do some servicing inside and sell it as an AP set with warranty 1 year summore. As I know FMG will not fix phones other than FMG warranty handset (even they are paid they will not fix)
Identify Original and AP Set - Take out the phone case and battery. - original set comes with authorized company sticker (Zitron, Avaxx, T-Choice, Midland). - AP set comes with AP company sticker (Final Choice). - press *#06# to check the phone 15 digit serial number (IMEI). - compare it with the IMEI written on phone sticker (back of phone case) and package box sticker. - for original set, these serial numbers are the same.

Nokia Corporation ("Nokia") provides this Limited Warranty to person who has purchased the Nokia product(s) included in the sales package ("Product"). Nokia warrants to you that during the warranty period Nokia or a Nokia authorized service company will in a commercially reasonable time remedy defects in materials, design and workmanship free of charge by repairing or, should Nokia in its absolute discretion deem it necessary, replacing the Product in accordance with this Limited Warranty (unless otherwise required by law). This Limited Warranty is only valid and enforceable in the country where you have purchased the Product provided that it is intended for sale in that country.
Warranty Period
The warranty period starts at the time of Product抯 original purchase by the first end-user. The Product may consist of several different parts and different parts may be covered by a different warranty period (hereinafter Warranty Period). The different Warranty Periods are:
1. Twelve (12) months for the mobile device and accessories (whether included in the mobile device sales package or sold separately) other than the consumable parts and accessories listed in B section ?below;
2. Six (6) months for the following consumable parts and accessories: batteries, chargers, desk stands, headsets, cables and covers; and
3. Ninety (90) days for the media on which any software is provided,e.g. CD-ROM, memory card.
As far as your national laws permit, the Warranty Period will not be extended or renewed or otherwise affected due to subsequent resale, repair or replacement of the Product. However, repaired part(s) will be warranted for the remainder of the original Warranty Period or for sixty (60) days from the date of repair, whichever is longer.
How To Get Warranty Service
If you wish to make a claim under the Limited Warranty, you may call the Nokia call center (where this is available and please note national rates apply to calls) and/or where necessary, return your Product or the affected part (if it is not the entire Product) to a Nokia care center or Nokia designated service location. Information about Nokia care centers, Nokia designated service locations and Nokia call centers can be found at local Nokia web pages where available.
You must return your Product or the affected part (if it is not the entire Product) to a Nokia care center or Nokia designated service location before the expiry of the Warranty Period.
When making a Limited Warranty claim you have to present: a) the Product (or affected part thereto), B section the legible and unmodified original proof of purchase, which clearly indicates the name and address of the seller, the date and place of purchase, the product type and the IMEI or other serial number.
This Limited Warranty extends only to the original first end-user of the Product and is not assignable or transferable to any subsequent purchaser/end-user.
1. This Limited Warranty does not cover user manuals or any third party software, settings, content, data or links, whether included/downloaded in the Product, whether included during instalment, assembly, shipping or at any other time in the delivery chain or otherwise and in any way acquired by you. To the extent permitted by applicable law(s), Nokia does not warrant that any Nokia software will meet your requirements, will work in combination with any hardware or software applications provided by a third party, that the operation of the software will be uninterrupted or error free or that any defects in the software are correctable or will be corrected.
2. This Limited Warranty does not cover a. normal wear and tear (including, without limitation, wear and tear of camera lenses, batteries or displays), b. section transport costs, c. defects caused by rough handling (including, without limitation, defects caused by sharp items, by bending, compressing or dropping, etc), d. defects or damage caused by misuse of the Product, including use that is contrary to the instructions provided by Nokia (e.g. as set out in the Product抯 user guide) and/or e. other acts beyond the reasonable control of Nokia.

This Limited Warranty does not cover defects or alleged defects caused by the fact that the Product was used with, or connected to, a product, accessories, software and/or service not manufactured, supplied or authorized by Nokia or was used otherwise than for its intended use. Defects can be caused by viruses from your or from a third party抯 unauthorised access to services, other accounts, computer systems or networks. This unauthorised access can take place through hacking, password-mining or through a variety of other means.
4. This Limited Warranty does not cover defects caused by the fact that the battery has been short-circuited or by the fact that the seals of the battery enclosure or the cells are broken or show evidence of tampering or by the fact that the battery has been used in equipment other than those for which it has been specified.
5. This Limited Warranty does not apply if the Product has been opened, modified or repaired by anyone other than an authorized service centre, if it is repaired using unauthorised spare parts or if the Product磗 serial number, the mobile accessory date code or the IMEI number has been removed, erased, defaced, altered or are illegible in any way and this shall be determined in the sole discretion of Nokia.
6. This Limited Warranty does not apply if the Product has been exposed to moisture, to dampness or to extreme thermal or environmental conditions or to rapid changes in such conditions, to corrosion, to oxidation, to spillage of food or liquid or to influence from chemical products.
Other Important Notices
A third party, independent operator provides the SIM card and cellular and/or other network or system on which the Product operates. Therefore, Nokia will not accept responsibility under this warranty for the operation, availability, coverage, services or range of the cellular or other network or system. Before the Product can be repaired or replaced, the operator may need to unlock any SIM-lock or other lock that may have been added to lock the product to a specific network or operator. Accordingly, Nokia does not accept responsibility for any delays in warranty repairs or for the inability of Nokia to complete warranty repairs that are caused by the operator抯 delay or failure to unlock any SIM-lock or other lock.
Please remember to make back-up copies or keep written records of all important content and data stored in your Product, because content and data may be lost during repair or replacement of the Product. Nokia, in a manner consistent with the provisions of the section entitled "Limitation of Nokia抯 Liability" below, to the extent permitted by applicable law(s), shall not under any circumstances be liable, either expressly or impliedly, for any damages or losses of any kind whatsoever resulting from loss of, damage to, or corruption of, content or data during repair or replacement of the Product.
All parts of the Product or other equipment that Nokia has replaced shall become the property of Nokia. If the returned Product is found not to be covered by the terms and conditions of the Limited Warranty, Nokia and its authorized service companies reserve the right to charge a handling fee. When repairing or replacing the Product, Nokia may use products or parts that are new, equivalent to new or re-conditioned.
Your Product may contain country specific elements, including software. If the Product has been re-exported from its original destination country to another country, the Product may contain country specific elements that are not considered to be a defect under this Limited Warranty.
Limitation Of Nokia's Liability
This Limited Warranty is your sole and exclusive remedy against Nokia and Nokia's sole and exclusive liability in respect of defects in your Product. However, this Limited Warranty shall neither exclude nor limit i) any of your legal (statutory) rights under the applicable national laws or ii) any of your rights against the seller of the Product.
This Limited Warranty replaces all other Nokia warranties and liabilities, whether oral, written, (non-mandatory) statutory, contractual, in tort or otherwise, including, without limitation, and where permitted by applicable law, any implied conditions, warranties or other terms as to satisfactory quality or fitness for purpose. Which one is right for you?
Resistive (Nokia 5800XM & Nokia N97) - Designed to allow items other than your finger to activate the touch. It also allows touch pens otherwise know as a Stylus to be used. - Generally require a little more "effort", but you can use almost anything.
Capacitive (iPhone) - Best for situations that require high speed response and long lasting reliability. - Has to be used with fingers - cannot use a finger nail or other pointing device, cannot be used whilst wearing gloves (ie. when its cold).
The iPhone uses the more advanced capacitive technology, which doesn't need actual contact. Capacitive sensors sit behind the glass and sense when the electrical field is disturbed. It allows for multi touch etc, which most touch screens are not capable of. Because there is no resistive film, it allows the display to be brighter. Capacitive screens are more expensive the manufacture, but given the massive price tag of the N97, you'd have thought Nokia would use the best type of screen possible? Especially as it looks likely to be pitched against the iPhone.

The main difference is Contact and Message editors, with the help of Nokia PC Suite, you can edit Contacts as well as you can send messages from PC when your phone is connected with the help of Nokia Communication Centre, which is not present as of now in Nokia NSeries / Nokia OVI Suite. This is the major difference.
Then some applications like Image Store, Nokia Music Manager and File Manager are there in normal Nokia PC Suite whereas, Nokia OVI Suite has got stand alone applications like Nokia Music (replacement for Music manager in Nokia PC Suite), Home Media Server, Nokia Photos (Replacement for Nokia Lifeblog), etc are present in Nokia OVI Suite.
Applications like NSeries Music Manager and NSeries Video Manager were not there in Nokia OVI Suite. NSeries PC Suite was almost replaced by Nokia OVI Suite nowadays.
Apart from this you can download standalone applications like Nokia Map Loader, Nokia Software Updater (it will download along with both Nokia PC Suite as well as Nokia OVI Suite while installing), Nokia photos etc.
Applications like Content Copier, Nokia Application Installer, Nokia PC Sync are common to both Nokia PC Suite and Nokia OVI Suite. When it comes to user perspective, they feel Nokia PC Suite is much easier to use than Nokia OVI Suite.

Standby Screen - When Music Player is operating, and seeing the track name on the screen, and then when one song ends and goes to the next track, the speed at which this happens has improved yet again from 21.002, although the noticeable change is not as much as from 20.149 to 21.002.
Calls Related - Calling speed (from standby screen to Contacts or Call Log) and transition to call/disconnected screens even faster than 21.002, is more than the instantaneous that I stated for the 21.002, it has improved yet again. - New menu option in the in-call menu to Send MMS during phone call. - Loudspeaker maximum volume has seemed to decreased.
Maps - Maps startup is now almost instantaneous, speed through all the Maps menus very fast, even faster than Maps 2.0 - Switching to different views is very smooth and fast now, i.e. to Map 3D etc. - Maps version 2.0 week 39 remains the same, although the Maps is able to be upgraded to Ovi Maps 3.01 flawlessly.
Music Player - The biggest change is the equaliser improvements. There is a huge improvement in sound quality, even background sounds and other channels are more noticeable. The default equaliser settings are quite good. And bass is less crunchy than before. - Split-second delays now do not exist when pressing the volume keys to change between volume levels. In the past, there was some degree of delay, even running multiple applications now, that behaviour has been improved remarkably. - Freezes in the music player have not been evident to me yet in my days of usage with the new firmware . Which is a marked improvement in the functioning and stability of the music player. Screen tearing and slow speed for album art to appear is still present though.
Camera and Photos - Biggest change is the reappearance of use of the volume keys to zoom while taking photos/recording video. - Going into Details is faster than 21.002, almost instantaneous now. - Scrolling speed through thumbnails is only minimally jerky now, also scrolling through photos at 100% view has improved in speed so it is now very smooth and almost instantaneous. - When going into menus in Camera, the speed is instantaneous.
Video Centre - Logo has changed for the video centre in the menu. - Appearance of video menu is different and seems to have inherited the newer N-series/E-series style simplified logos. - Speed in the video centre is much improved and is almost instantaneous. - Changing between volume levels in RealPlayer is instantaneous, fast-forward/rewind speed and resume of playback after these functions is improved and almost instantaneous. Sound quality appears to have been improved also.
Search - Application has been upgraded from v4.08 to v4.10.0904. - Logo has changed and is now reminiscent of the newer N-series/E-series simplified styling. - Performance is faster and Yandex search service has been removed in favour of Live Search and Google (Note: this is for the APAC variant, will vary between different regions and specific countries).
Web - Rendering of webpages has improved in speed since 21.002. - Rotate Screen option speed is now almost instantaneous. - Speed in Web options menu is now instantaneous. - Loading of Minimap on side when scrolling down pages does not have pixelation anymore.
Others - Overall system speed has been improved so it is somewhat faster than 21.002 - Scrolling in the Multimedia menu from one tab to another whilst multiple applications are running, has improved marginally in speed - Overall stability seems to also have been improved, have not had one crash or freeze where I have had to remove the phone battery. The slight freezes that have occurred, the phone has recovered from flawlessly.

Nokia´s latest music phone, the 5800 XpressMusic, is yet another cool candybar model worth checking out. Features such as multi-format music player, stereo speakers, hi-fi sound with eight-band equaliser, eight gigabytes (GB) of storage and 1,000 free song downloads will likely go down well with audiophiles.
The Media Bar accommodates quick access to music, podcasts and other multimedia files as well as the Internet. To enjoy audio on the go, the device can be matched with the supplied hands-free kit. The stereo surround sound capability delivered by the built-in speakers lets you share your music experience loud.
Another highlight feature is the model´s 3.2-inch high-resolution touch-screen. Responsive to fingertip, stylus and plectrum control, the screen also provides automatic screen rotation through its built-in accelerometer and accommodates handwriting input.
Note that when switching from vertical to horizontal view, or vice versa, the screen will go blackout for a second before popping again to show your preferred view.

It is said that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Except when it is used to deceive people and rob them.
There have been replicas made of some of the higher-end Nokia models, in particular the 8800 Sapphire Arte and 8800 Carbon Arte, both of which have a £1000+ price tag on them in the Nokia Online store, and then sold on eBay represented as the original Nokia product being sold at a discount price.
This short guide should help you avoid falling into the trap that scammers have laid for you.
First of all, just look at the price. There's no such thing as a free lunch and if something looks too good to be true then there's a significant probability that it simply is too good to be true. I recently saw multiple cases of people buying what they thought to be genuine Nokia 8800 Sapphire Artes but turned out to be Chinese fakes. One of them said that he paid $450 for his. Purely on that basis I would have left that phone well alone. $450 is less than a quarter of the phone's normal retail price and it therefore cannot be anything but a fake.
Secondly, the photos. Most online auction sites allow photos of the item for auction to be posted in order to give potential buyers an idea of what they're bidding for. Always be wary of sellers who only provide photos that come directly from Nokia's Press Site. You are not seeing a photo of the actual device being sold, you are seeing generic photos used for publicity's sake. Insist on seeing photos of the phone being sold and if the seller doesn't want to send you any then walk away. Obtaining such photos serves a double purpose: firstly you get to see the actual phone. Secondly, you can return the phone as non-compliant if it is evidently not the phone on the photos that you were told were photos of it.
Thirdly, the IMEI number. The IMEI number is a 15-digit unique number that identifies the phone in question. Insist upon having it. Then go to this page, enter that IMEI number, and you will be told exactly what model phone has that IMEI number. If it's not the model that's being sold then the seller is trying to pull a fast one on you. Of course, it could be that the seller does communicate the IMEI number of an authentic Nokia phone to you but sends you a fake with a completely different IMEI number. In that case, the phone shipped to you is obviously different from the one promised and you can return it and annull the sale.
Fourthly, if the phone is being represented as the "Chinese version" then it almost certainly is a fake. Nokia does have a production plant in China so "Made in China" isn't at all grounds for rejection, but "Chinese version" is. While it's true that there is a genuine "Chinese" version of many Nokia phones (they have neither WiFi nor 3G capability as demanded by the Chinese government), it's not something a seller would shout about. If they do say that it's a "Chinese version" phone then the chances are that it's not a Nokia at all and it's more like a "Chinese fake".
The four points above assume you don't have access to the phone yet because you're buying it online through an auction site or just an online retailer. A few things you can look at if you can get your hands on it before buying are as follows.
All new Nokia phones respond to the code *#7780# entered on the keypad by asking you to confirm that you want to revert to factory settings and asking you for a lock code. If the phone you're looking at doesn't do this then it's not a Nokia.
Try and get the firmware version currently installed in the phone. To do this, enter *#0000# from standby. There's no way to validate formally the information you'll see but one thing that means the phone you're looking at definitely is a fake is the date of the firmware revision in American format, MM-DD-YYYY, "02-22-2007" for example. If you're unsure, note down exactly what you see and ask on the Nokia Support Discussions forum.
Finally, ask if you can plug the phone into the USB socket of your laptop computer with the provided cable (assuming one is provided). There's no need to install any software on your laptop, all you want to see is how the phone reacts. A genuine Nokia phone, when connected to a USB port, will give you the options "Default mode", "Printing" and "Data storage" for some models and "PC Suite", "Mass storage", "Image transfer" and "Media transfer" for others. Or combinations thereof. Options frequently seen on fakes and never on genuine Nokias include "webcam" and "comport". If the phone you're looking at displays either of these two options then it's definitely a fake.
There are many risks involved with the purchase of an expensive piece of equipment like a high-end mobile phone. Many of them can be eliminated by not trusting auction sites with a reputation as shady in that area as the one that comes to mind first of all, who went on the record condoning the sale of counterfeit items in the name of "consumer choice". The risks diminish significantly if you purchase either online or in a real store but from somewhere that has a good reputation and a good returns policy. However, the only way to be 100% certain that you're getting the genuine article is to buy it directly from Nokia. If you do get yours from your mobile network operator then it will also be a genuine Nokia albeit tampered with by the operator.

Phones that are capable of using GPS (Global Positioning System) will have several different methods of positioning. You can select which positioning methods you use by going to Menu> Tools> Settings> General> Positioning> Positioning Methods.
1. Integrated GPS - This refers to a phone's built in GPS receiver. GPS satellites continuously transmit their location relative to the Earth, and your phone's GPS receiver can calculate its own position if it knows the position of at least three satellites. Today, almost all N- and E-series phones have integrated GPS, plus a selection of 6xxx phones.
2. Bluetooth GPS - If you do not have integrated GPS or you wish to improve GPS reception, you can connect your phone to an external GPS receiver device which can replace or complement Integrated GPS.
3. Assisted GPS - This is a network-based service used to help fix a GPS position. When using this, small amounts of data are transmitted so you need a network-based internet service from your network operator for which you may be charged by the download volume. Only small amounts of data are involved, but you should take care using this feature if you are travelling outside your own country as roaming data charges can be high.
4. Network-based - whenever your phone is switched on and in range of your operator's network, it knows which base station (commonly known as the transmitter or mast) it is connected to, and using that information it can approximate your position using this network data. This is an additional help in obtaining a GPS fix, and it also makes a brief data connection.
Recommended to use (1) and (3) only chargeable of RM0.10 cents per connection for normal plan user and Free for unlimited data plan user.
A number of factors can affect your phone's ability to obtain its GPS position:
- First time use - Fresh out the box, it may take 15-20 minutes for your phone to get its first ever GPS fix, longer in extreme cases. - Built-up areas - if you are in a city with many tall buildings, they may interrupt the signals from the GPS satellites and make it harder to obtain and maintain a fix. - Weather - adverse weather conditions, particularly heavy cloud, can affect the strength of the GPS signals getting through from the satellites. - Receiver location - Do you own an N95 or N95 8Gb? Your GPS receiver is under the keypad, so ensure you always have the slider open when using GPS. - Your Windscreen - Heat-reflective (athermic) windscreens common in Citroën, Peugeot and Renault cars can interfere with GPS signals, as can windscreen heating elements often found in Ford cars. If you have one of these, an external GPS receiver or signal booster can be very useful.

For us to getting the first GPS location fix, there are 3 requirement need to be fulfill:
1. The time the message was sent 2. Precise orbital information (the ephemeris) 3. The general system health and rough orbits of all GPS satellites (the almanac).
To simplify its meaning: 1. The time on ur devices and the time of the satellite 2. The satelite actual time data (need to keep the devices syn with the satellite) 3. The satelite orbits location at certain time (how many satellite will possible visible by the devices) GPS fix steps:
1. During the cold GPS device startup (devices reboot), the phone dont have all 3 data and it will try to scan through all 32 GPS satellite signal signature (that's why an open space needed to let the phone detected as many satellite as possible)
2. The phone then will download all those available satellite signal and do calculation (no.2), this is where the a-GPS come in handy where if u let it connect to our sp 3g then the phone will just send a msg to the sp 3g tower and request the (no. 2) data, where all those 3g tower will report it's location to the Nokia / Google positioning server and download the rough location on the GPS fix then the tower will send this (no. 2) data back to our phone.
3. If no A-GPS then the phone will have to download those (no.2) data manually (mean very slow) and I can tell for those a few bytes satellite data will need to take about 10mins with the satellite signal strength about full (mean if u open the Garmin satellite status those bar need to hit about full bar) if the satellite signal strength are lower (mean less then full bar) then the signal data accquiring will take up 15mins~30mins to be downloaded (same a few bytes data) for ~4kb we can get all 32 satellites (no.2) data.
4. Once the (no.2) data downloaded the signal bar will turn to solid (a fix already capture) and the phone already can syn with the satellite.
5. Remember all those satellite signal will need to collect 1 by 1 (although run at parallel) if no A-GPS enable.
6. If got A-GPS then ALL 32 satellite (no.2) data will be provide by the supp. server (~4kb) and your phone will able to lock every satellite that come in view.
Those (no.2) data wont be delete as long as ur phone not reboot. and everytime u open the GPS apps the same data will be use back and the phone only do minor calculation and can get the fix, this wont work out if u reopen after a few hours because the satellite previously lock already out of sigh (all satellite orbiting very fast)
So now you know where although we seen got a FULL BAR for the satellite strength but still cant get a fast fix, it's because the satellite manual downloading through the GPS chip are VERY SLOW (a few bytes will need 10 minutes to be completed). DO NOT MOVE AROUND WHEN YOU DO THIS!
1. Shutdown ur phone 2. Reboot the phone 3. Go to an open space 4. Disable the a-GPS and network under the LOCATIONS apps 5. Run Garmin XT 6. Go into the the satellite status view screen (in Garmin) 7. Start ur timer and observe those FULL BAR satellite (strong signal) 8. At least 4 satellites needed for Garmin to start calculating minimum requirement. 9. Wait till the bar turn to solid (anyone of it). 10. Stop ur timer.
Sometimes lucky and might get a faster time that's because it' not sure a reboot will 'confirmed" deleted the satellite cache (No.2) data or not but for a cold start it can make sure you will able to lock the GPS in 10 minutes for a single satellite (the signal strengh must be high).

A-GPS Charges Varies

A-GPS charges once per lock u get on the specific coordinate captured by satellite. The charges may also increase on below situation:
You locked position at home, moving towards KLCC. Upon reaching Subang Jaya using federal highway, the satellite lost you device detection and no GPS available. Then the lock is gained again when you reach Kelana Jaya. In this situation, u were moving and the distance is quite far and possible to immediate lock is a less chance. In this case you get 2 locks using A-GPS that means u gotta pay RM0.20 cents.
Celcom, Maxis and DiGi reports that A-GPS charges are RM0.10 cents per 10KB

It seems to be a small issue, where by Nokia might wants the user to go online search for the first time on the Nokia Maps before subsequent searches are performed offline mode. This may due to device authentication data sent online to Nokia for log purpose. Once the first time online search ends, close Nokia OVI Maps and do an offline search. It works !

1. Setup your WiFi setting. 2. Verify the WiFi functionality (browse some web page). 3. Set the WiFi as 1st priority inside the destination (internet) setting. 4. Set the WiFi as the default access point (for the internet). 5. Delete the WAP / MMS / STREAMING settings and left the 3G Internet (as 2nd priority inside the internet setting). 6. Edit the 3G internet setting and change the "password prompt" to YES. 7. Load up the maps loader. 8. Click on the delete maps from storage. 9. Reload in the maps (at least the malaysia map must be selected). 10. Load as well the voice guidance file. 11. Wait for all the downloading and uploading finished. 12. Run Location and disable the agps and network under positioning setting. 13. Run the OVI maps. 14. When the 3G internet prompt up select cancel (do not connect) (if it still pop up, suppose wont because we already disable A-GPS and network in Location setting). 15. Go to setting and change the internet to online. 16. Select appropiate voice guidance file. 17. Go outside where more satelite can be search. 18. Now go to my location and wait for the satelite to get a fix (might be take long since no agps) 19. Make sure the red dot are "IN MALAYSIA". 20. Change maps mode as SATELITE view to try the WiFi can download the satelite image (to ensure WiFi is working). 21. Once confirm WiFi working switch back to maps view. 22. Walk around and you will see the GPS is working already (since it already lock, red dot will turn SOLID RED and satellite bar should be green).
The most useful for the 3G internet password prompt when agps and network positioning enable: 1. Select YES during the password prompt you will have A-GPS (fast lock with charges). 2. Select CANCEL during the password prompt you will have full I-GPS (slow lock but FOC).
Steps 18 and 19 are needed because sometime during the first time OVI maps run it will set it "previous' location as some where maybe not within Malaysia and if this happen and you dont have those location maps downloaded in the database then it will direct download from the internet and who know which access point it gonna use (if it use 3G internet then you will lost lots of phone credits for those huge maps data), confirm this if you dont have the maps data install it will direct download the file.

Download Free S'pore & West M'sia Map for (Peninsula Malaysia and singapore) or Free East M'sia Map (Sabah Sarawak). Then click on the GMAPSUPP for MXT Symbian. Place the downloaded IMG file into Garmin Folder in ROOT memory card. There is a GOLD version for members who contributed to the community. Which map is better is up to the user's own opinion. Below are some facts that will help you judge. Comparison is based on MFM v1.45 vs MSM v2.30b.
- For Perlis, Kedah and Penang, MFM has more details than MSM as MSM is still using old maps from MFM mappers. - For Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang, MFM has more details than MSM as MSM is still using old maps from MFM mappers. - For Perak, MFM has more details than MSM as MSM is still using old maps from MFM mappers. - For Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, MFM has more details than MSM as MSM is still using old maps from MFM mappers. - For Negeri Sembilan, MFM has more details than MSM especially at Seremban and vicinity - For Melaka, MFM has as much details as MSM in Melaka town. Inserting Multiple Maps - Garmin XT
During my research into GarminXT and finding maps for it, I've come across some information which may be very useful to those you want to keep more than one country map on their device. For those of you who are not confident in using the Hack Toolset (cgpsmapper, gmaptool and maptoolsetkit programs) to make the IMG maps readable by the Garmin MapSource program.
Instructions: 1. Name the <map1>.img to gmapbmap.img and place in Garmin folder. 2. Rename <map2>.img to gmapprom.img and place in Garmin folder. 3. Rename <map3>.img to gmapsupp.img and place in Garmin folder. 4. Rename <map4>.img to gmapsup2.img and place in Garmin folder. 5. Rename <map5>.img to gmapsupp.img and place in <MEMORYCARD>:\Garmin\Apps
This last map doesn't always work though.
You can check that everything is working by opening GarminXT>Tools>Manage Maps and all maps should be showing.
Garmin XT Mobile Battery Draining Issue

This it seem is due to a background process that Garmin Mobile XT starts upon boot up of your Symbian operating system as well as upon running of the Mobile XT software. Things you will need to verify if you are affected by this background process.

The new Garmin XT kills the battery life on our phones. There is a program called TSRAutostart.exe that is draining the battery. If you have jbtaskman and kill the process, it will just start again when you restart your phone. Here is a solution to stop that file from automatically starting, thus greatly increasing your battery life.
To stop that file from restarting, plug your phone into your computer and use the mass storage setting. Then, delete these two files
This will stop that battery hog file from starting up. If you install jbtaskman you can kill the process after your run garmin. This will increase your battery.
As of version 5.0.0.40, this background process is now an option that can be switched off, saving you the trouble of killing the process each time you run Garmin. Start GMobileXT, goto Tools -> Settings -> System, scroll down all the way till you see the option "Launch background service" and select Disabled then Done to save.

Searching by address in the Malaysian maps, whether Malfreemaps or Malsingmaps takes some patience and effort. Tried this in Garmin Mobile XT.
Do an address search, spell country as Malaysia, then search all cities. Don’t enter a house number, this almost always doesn’t work in Malaysia, ie. skip this, by pressing Next. In the "Street" screen, simply enter "SS 20/13" without the quotes, no need to type in Jalan or Lorong, or whatever. In this case, in the whole of Malaysia, there’s only one "SS 20/13" so only one search result is displayed, and clicking on it will bring you to the detailed map !

You need to back up the existing GARMIN folder on your memory card, which are the map files, as well as any POIs that you have created and the settings are in there. The license file for the new phone should be a different one and you can’t use the one for the existing one for the new phone, unless your Garmin XT MObile came in an official SD card.
The fastest way to test is to copy the entire garmin folder across to the new memory card. The problem is, you have to reinstall the Garmin software again, after successfull installation, delete the new E:\GARMIN folder entirely and replace with the old ones that you did backup from old phone.
Also, finally get back the license key from Garmin to be able for you use the Internal GPS if you have purchased the Garmin XT Mobile previously.

If u have My Locations saved, click the spannar icon, -> MANAGE MY DATA click MANAGE button (Select Export GPX), this process will export all existing My Locations to GPX folder.
1. Move E:\Garmin to ure PC 2. Install Garmin Freshly 3. Configure Garmin in ure phone 4. After successful config the new Garmin, delete the new Garmin folder from memory card 5. Move back ure old Garmin from PC to fone .. Done !
To import back old My Locations saved, click the spannar icon, -> MANAGE MY DATA click MANAGE button (Select Import GPX), this process will import all previously saved My Locations to the application.

Garmin XT Mobile uses two fonts, GarminDejaVuSans.ttf and GarminDejaVuSans-Bold.ttf, in my case I use FrancophilSansPlus.ttf which is the same i used for my Orange Tornado HS.
Make a two (2) copies of FrancophilSansPlus.ttf and rename two of the fonts with GarminDejaVuSans.ttf and GarminDejaVuSans-Bold.ttf then put into \Garmin\Fonts folder, start ure Garmin and see the changes !
You can choose any TrueType (TTF) fonts from your computer and follow above instructions, below are my screen shots with FrancophilSansPlus.ttf.

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is a great phone if you asked me, dont tell about the problems, there are some manufacturing defects on the phone, I never deny that .. You could drag and drop the location of the application you wish to relocate.
Battery Saving 1. Always turn off wireless scanning, Bluetooth when not in use 2. For those not using 3G, choose your network mode to GSM instead of Dual mode which will consume more battery. Settings -> Connectivity -> Network mode -> GSM 3. Less Display Light a. Setting -> Phone -> Display -> light sensor (move the slider to the left) b. Setting -> Phone -> Display -> Light Time-Out (lesser time to save battery but annoying if too short while you are playing games) 4. Always terminate the application properly that is not using by using Option ->Exit. It might be running background and consuming battery which you don’t know.
Memory Saving 1. Restart your phone if the memory less than 30MB 2. Use Kill Me or Handy Taskman to close all application regularly or kill application that is not in use.
Camera & Picture 1. Some noise could be reduced if set the ISO sensitivity to low instead of auto. 2. When viewing pictures, you could use your stylus to view for previous (slide left) or next (slide right) picture like iphone feature.

Music 1. If you can’t find your songs after transferring from your pc to memory card, go to music player -> Option -> Refresh library
Application 1. Always install your phone theme on the memory cards. This is because if some theme does not work (Christmas tree) then you need to flash your phone. 2. Uninstall your application in proper way. Use Menu -> Setting -> Application mgr. -> Installed apps -> Choose application then option n uninstall
Known Bugs 1. While u are using music player on your phone and there is incoming calls, the phone will use the default nokia ring tone as the memory card is used by the music player. 2. The inclination sensor is over-sensitive. The screen will changed to horizontal mode even slight rotate. 3. Regarding the screen blank and locked when calling, this is because the proximity sensor if blocked it will make the screen black when calling. The block is including some glossy transparent film, so please cut out the film around the sensor located between the middle earpiece and front camera. 4. Do not save your themes/apps in phone memory, save in memory card instead. In case some applications or themes are corrupted, you could just reformat your memory card. 5. (With V11 firmware) You cannot rename newly created equalizer presets. (NEW)

Take the phone and battery out of their wrapping, and insert the battery making sure that its holes match up to the prongs in the phone. If you're unsure how to do this take a look at the quick start guide that comes with the phone. (Long-time Nokia users may be surprised to see the "wrong" side of the battery facing outwards, but don't worry, it is meant to be that way round.) When you've got the battery inserted properly and snapped the casing back on, attach the charger and plug it into the mains. You can use any Nokia charger with an appropriate-size pin, though different types of Nokia chargers fill the battery at different rates (if you look on the charger you will see a "mA" number, this is higher in chargers that charge faster).
Now to kill a couple of myths: - You do NOT need to empty the battery before charging! - You do NOT need to charge the battery for 24 hours on first use!
There are many misconceptions from the days of older types of batteries which suffered from the "memory effect". Modern lithium phone batteries work in a much more flexible way, and do not require any special treatment when first used.
Batteries do eventually wear out of course, but you should be able to get a couple of years use from a brand new phone battery. Disconnect the charger once the battery is full, always, dont charge overnight !

3. Login to your Opera Mobile using username and password then let it to synchronise the new folder which you have created. 4. Now goto Opera computer browser and then goto Tools -> Opera Link Synchronisation -> Enable (Login and activate it) 5. You should see a new bookmark created which has been synchronised from your fone into your computer browser.
6. Now goto Opera computer browser and select Bookmarks -> Manage Bookmarks. 7. Copy your favourite bookmarks into your "Opera Mini -> Personal Bookmarks"
8. Now goto Opera Mobile 10 and disable the Opera Link button under SETTINGS and enable again, login again to synchronise. 9. Now go back to your phone and goto SETTINGS in Opera Mobile and click on Opera Link as image below.

6. There are some huge file in phone, c:/private/102072c4/reserved.bin, 4.5 Mb size of plain 0xff.
Deleted it and free up phone memory check if your phone has one. The files are for FOTA (firmware over the air) coz when remove it, and go to the device mgr. app it reappears, so its safe to remove it, we wont need it as we never get any FOTA updates.
Your access points are stored in C:\Private\10202be9\persists\cccccc00.cre. Just make a copy of cccccc00.cre, and restore it to your phone (or send it to another phone), restart your phone, and you have your access point settings back just the way they were when you made the backup.
Bluetooth Your bluetooth name is in C:\Private\10202be9\persists\10204dac.cre, your paired devices are in C:\Private\100012a5\DBS_100069CC_btregistry
Bookmarks The bookmarks of Symbian's built-in web browser are stored in C:\Private\100012a5\DBS_101FD685_BrowserBookmarks. db.
Calendar Calendar entries are stored in C:\Private\10003a5b\Calendar.
Cookies The cookies of Symbian's built-in web browser are in C:\Private\101f8530\cookies.dat. Restart your phone after restoring or transfering the cookies file. If you've told your browser to delete your cookies, there is no cookies.dat file in C:\Private\101f8530.
Messages Your SMSs and mails from Symbian's built-in messaging application are stored in C:\Private\1000484b. If you've told your phone to store messages on your memory card, they are in E:\Private\1000484b. Copy the entire folder, and restore when needed.
Notes The notes you write in Symbian's Notes application are stored in C:\Private\100012a5\DBS_101F8878_Notepad.dat. If you can't delete or replace the file, it's because Symbian is using it. But there's a workaround for this problem: go to settings, data manager, memory, and select "back up phone memory" from the options menu. While your phone is making the backup, you can delete or replace the DBS_101F8878_Notepad.dat file.
Profiles Your profiles are stored in C:\Private\10202be9\persists\101f8798.cre. If you restore the backup, restart your phone.
T9 dictionary Your frequently used words in SMS and email are stored in C:\Predic\101F8615_F.dat. You don't even need to hack your phone to get into this folder.

Access Symbian Folders via Computer

If you connect your Symbian phone to your computer with PC Suite you can only see childproof folders like images, sounds, documents, etc. But there is a way to get into system folders like resource, private, and sys too.
Requirements - A hacked phone with "CAPS" switched off. - MapDrives on your phone. - PC Suite on your computer.
Step 1 - Make sure Symbian on your phone is hacked and "caps" are switched off.
Step 2 - Use MapDrives to assign virtual drive letters to your Symbian system folders.
Step 3 - Connect your phone to your computer in PC Suite mode.
Step 4 - Open "My Computer," and open Nokia Phone Browser. Do NOT open the drive with the phone symbol, and do NOT open your phone's drive from the PC Suite menu. Only use the Nokia Phone Browser from "My Computer."
Step 5 - Your mapped system folders will show up as drives in the Nokia File Browser, and you'll have full access to all the files in them.

Under circumstances PC Suite mode to connect your phone with computer, there is no need to "Safely remove hardware". You can simply plug-out your cable from the Phone and PC. In case if you are selecting Data Storage mode, your phone will act as a storage device (USB Drive to store data etc.), in that case only you have to safely remove hardware from your computer.

Open the internal Nokia browser and surf some web sites, observe now it caches to E:\Sys\Cache. It also create new file called 101f8557.cre in persist folder, leave it there.
Now C:\System\Cache will be empty forever and saves C drive space (You may delete the Cache folder permanently).

The very proper way to install Nokia stuffs without error is .. use PC Suite Cleaner to remove old Nokia stuffs completely and manually DELETE the entire Nokia folder in C:\Program Files, C:\Program Files\Common Files and also C:\Documents and Settings\Your PC Username\Application Data\Nokia (If have installed previously). Then restart computer.
1. Install Nokia PC Suite (make sure u have handy usbser.sys, usbser_lowerflt.sys and usbser_lowerfltj.sys) 2. Connect phone when asked, and the installer will install all necessary stuffs including MTP Device Support. 3. Install Nokia Software Updater. 4. Install Nokia Maps Loader. 5. Download Nokia USB Support Files http://www.2shared.com/file/12048525/7e6c4...port_Files.html
Restart the computer immediately once done, dont continue ure other works ..
Additional tips to save system resources, remove all NOKIA related startups using CCleaner (be familiar with it, this is a very good system advisor stuff)
You can always START and STOP the servicelayer.exe (the only needed stuff for Nokia apps to work n detect the phone), make sure you START the service before launching Nokia applications such as PC Suite, OVI or even NSU.

1. Calibri We’ve found this font to be extremely good on the Nokia 5800 in all areas. It is a great web browser font and looks great on your phone, take a look at the screenshots above. I currently have it on my Nokia 5800 and it’s probably the one that I would recommend the most.
2. iPhone style (Helvetica Neue CE 55 Roman) We tried to find a font that look similar to the iPhones so you could put it on your Nokia 5800.
3. WalkWay WalkWay is more of a broader font that looks good on the 5800 messaging screen and general navigation of the phone but lacks when you view web pages. It is still very stylish and that’s why we have included it in this post.
4. Street - Plain This was one of the very first fonts that I put on my phone. It is great in all areas of the phone and is very clear.
5. Practical Practical is another font that I favour on my 5800 but the only problem why it is not a permanent font is because the font I see on my web browser is not that visually appealing. If you are not using the internet a lot or don’t mind that font on the internet, this is a very neat font.
6. Francophilsans Plus This font was new to me when I was trying it on my 5800 but I was impressed at the display on the phone, but again it lacked on the internet. It is quite bold and big on the screen so it will be very easy to read and looks good to.
7. Anna You will find Anna quite small on your 5800 but it has a shape about it that makes it very minimalistic.
To those aren't able to use in v31 and v41 please use Font Router Manager below and SIS/SISX applications may require user to SIGN and INSTALL, therefore make sure u have read Symbian Signing method using CER and KEY at the General Tips & Tricks I)

Opera Mobile 10 Beta has stormed into our Symbian world providing us an amazing user experience but recent reports on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic are not so favorable due to the low memory effects but here is a tweak that could be used to manually configure Opera Mobile to give you a little extra notch.
On the url box type opera:config
Now Opera Mobile will open some wonderful hidden screens. Here you have lots of configuration options, there are two of special interest; the first one is "disk cache" under this one you will find an option called "size" changing this from the default 4096 to 2048 seems to have a positive impact in Nokia 5800 XpressMusic´s memory usage:
Change it to 2048 from the standard default.
Now go on and type opera:drives and you’ll see you’ll be able to use Opera Mobile 10 Beta as kind off a bare bones utility task manager. Again you can try these settings on any S60 device but they’ll have a higher mileage on the s60v5.
Backup Contacts, Messages, Settings Etc.

The Nokia 5800XM has a backup feature embedded. You can program it to be automatic, such as daily, weekly etc. and remember this because I strongly recommend you to activate this after the any recovery to save yourself.
Indeed these files have the .arc extension, but I've never been able to open it on the computer and remember, these files are not compatible with PC Suite. Copy these backup files elsewhere on your PC. and keep it safe, it is in such situation that you are pretty nervous and you make bad mistakes, losing your last chances to recover piece of data.
Have your memory card of your Nokia connected directly to a PC, back it up using simple copy or ZIP of the entire card. Now you should have find your .arc files in the Backup folder (hidden folder) of the memory card.
For these kind of backup, I do personally recommend you to backup Contacts, Messages, Settings, Calendars (Optional) and Bookmarks (Optional) and do not backup your personal files (User Files).
To backup from phone: 1. Go to the standard Nokia File Manager. 2. Click on Backup. 3. Then Options -> Restore. 4. Select the desired, such as Contacts, Messages, Settings etc. 5. Click "OK" to start backup process.
To restore the backup: 1. Go to the standard Nokia File Manager. 2. Click on Backup. 3. Then Options -> Restore. 4. Select the desired, such as Contacts, Messages, Settings etc. 5. Click "OK" to start restore process.
My personal advise is to never trust any electronic devices for your valueable data. Remember, these mistakes are not done by the device itself, its always our mistake and lack of precautions.

You can setup your Nokia 5800XM to use APN’s (WAP / Internet / Wifi). Just go to the Main Menu -> Tap Internet -> Tap Web -> Tap Options -> Tap Settings ->Tap General -> Tap Access Point -> Tap Always Ask.
You can also control a ‘priority’ rule to use the APN on Nokia 5800XM, Goto the Main Menu -> Tap Settings -> Tap Connectivity-> Tap Destinations -> Tap Internet -> preferred APN (eg. WiFi) -> Tap Options, Organise, and Change Priority -> Tap into the slot position you want (say, first) -> OK.

Save A Wet Cell Phone

1. Get it out of the water as soon as possible. The plastic covers on cell phones are fairly tight, but water can enter the phone in a short period of time, perhaps only 20 seconds or less. So grab your phone quickly! If you can't get to it in time, your best bet is to remove the battery while it is still under water. Water helps dissipate heat from shorts that can damage the phone, so most damage occurs when the inside of the phone is merely wet and there is a power source. This can go both ways. Being under water is more likely to short the battery to even more sensitive contacts, so be careful.
2. Don't panic. Your phone will probably not be too damaged if you right away take it out of the water. While it's in the water, immediately take it out.
3. Remove the battery. This is one of the most important steps. Don't take time to think about it; electricity and water do not mix. Cutting power to your phone is a crucial first step in saving it. Many circuits inside the phone will survive immersion in water provided they are not attached to a power source when wet.
4. If you have a sim card ,remove your SIM card. Some or all of your valuable contacts (along with other data) could be stored on your SIM. To some people this could be more worth saving than the phone itself. SIM cards survive water damage well, but some of the following steps are unnecessary i.e. don't heat it. Just pat it dry and leave it aside until you need to connect your phone to your cellular network.
5. Dry your phone. Obviously you need to remove as much of the water as soon as possible, so you can save it from getting into the phone. Shake it out without dropping it, then use a towel or paper towel (ideally trying not to clog the wet paper in the gaps and grooves of the phone) to gently remove as much of the remaining water as possible. Dry the excess moisture by hand.
6. Remove any covers and external connectors to open up as many gaps, slots, and crevices in the phone as possible.
7. Use a vacuum cleaner if possible Let the phone sit on absorbent towels, napkin, or other paper. It is thought that letting a cellphone sit in rice will absorb moisture including under the screen. Remember that the goal is to evacuate all the moisture and humidity, not to trap it or add even more. Check the absorbent material every hour for 4 to 6 hours. If moisture is evident, repeat the vacuuming step and desiccant steps.
8. Use a hairdryer or the heating vent to your car. Turn the hairdryer on a medium setting and gently dry the keypad and trackball on the phone. Dry any parts that may have gotten damp for 5-7 minutes. If you do not have access to a hairdryer at the time, then the heater on in a car full blast. Hold the phone up to the vent and dry all areas for 5-10 minutes.
9. Test your phone. After you have waited a day or so, make sure everything is clean and dry looking and re-attach the battery to the phone and see if it works. If your phone does not work, try plugging it into its charger without the battery, if this works, you need a new battery. If not, try taking your cell phone to an authorized dealer. Sometimes they can fix it. Don't try to hide the fact that it has been wet. There are internal indicators that prove moisture.

What should I do? What you need to do is report the loss/theft to the police and to your network operator immediately that you know of the problem - your operator can then deactivate the SIM so that whoever has your phone can't make any calls on your account. Depending on which country you are in, your operator could also add your phone's IMEI to a blacklist shared with other networks - this will prevent the phone being used on networks in that country and is the most effective way to thwart thieves and those who buy stolen goods from thieves.
How do I protect my data in case of loss/theft? You can lock your phone with the security keyguard, this will then kick in after a pre-set number of minutes, requiring the security code (sometimes called the lock code) to be entered in order to access the phone. If you intend to protect your phone data this way, there are two important things to remember. The first is to change the code from the standard 12345, which virtually everybody knows, and the second is not to forget your code, because if you do you will need to visit your local Nokia service point to clear the code - a process which will also wipe your data. However, the real truth is that unless you are Barack Obama, Madonna or somebody equally high-profile, the average thief doesn't care for your data. The common thief is after the hardware - the phone would be sold on and in use by somebody else, your data would be wiped. The best security for your phone itself is to keep it secure.
Can I lock the phone remotely? Only if you are prepared for this eventuality in advance. Some phones such as the N96 have a Remote Phone Locking facility which you can activate in the security settings which will lock the phone when it receives a pre-set message. On other S60 smartphones, you may be able to install third-party software to achieve the same thing. All of this, of course, relies on your phone being able to receive the security message, which means that it must be switched on and your SIM card to still be in.
Can my phone be tracked? Practically, no. If your SIM card is in and the phone switched on, your network operator knows roughly where it is by the base station (mast) that it is closest to, but this is not something that is available to the end user and it only gives an approximate location anyway. Some people ask why their phone can't be tracked by GPS. The reason is that GPS-equipped phones have GPS receivers only, they receive signals from GPS satellites in order to work out the coordinates of the phone's location on the Earth's surface - the phone is not in any way broadcasting its location for the GPS system or any other system to follow.
IMEI Australia is the first country to implement IMEI blocking across all digital GSM networks. Some countries have IMEI blocking on individual networks, but not inter-carrier IMEI number blocking. IMEI number is broadcast to the network everytime a call is made, along with the user's account information on the sim card. So, let's say the person who stole a phone just takes out owner's SIM card and puts in their's, and keeps using the phone. For example, T-mobile would be able to recognise the IMEI number on owner's phone every time that person makes a call. Since they would have their SIM card in owner's phone, it also makes sense that T-mobile could easily access their account and provide a name, address, etc. to owner or the police. Unfortunately this facility is not available in Malaysia.
Can't I destroy the phone remotely? No, stories that you can are nothing more than urban legend.

The length of time that your phone rings time is primarily a network issue, though Call Divert settings can influence it. You should be aware, however, that your network may have settings which override these settings in your phone, if this proves to be the case you should contact them sometimes they are able to increase the ring time from their end. Getting to the call divert settings may vary depending on your phone model:
Menu -> Settings -> Calling -> Call divert
Once here, the procedure should be the same for all phones: - Select Voice calls (this stage may not be present on simpler phones which support only voice calls) - Select If not answered - Select Activate - Select To voice mailbox - Choose time (between 5 and 30 seconds)

There are a couple of other factors that may help you to respond to your phone in time, especially if your phone spends its day in a pocket or bag or if you are often in a noisy place:
Volume - On the vast majority of Noka phones from recent years, if you have the volume set to the highest level, your it will automatically be in "Ascending mode", a safety feature which begins the tone quietly and increases the sound gradually to full volume. Setting the tone to one level below highest will retain the standard volume throughout the ringing.
Which tone? - Choosing the right tone is also key to being able to respond quickly to an incoming call. A tune that starts suddenly and loudly will be much easaier to react to than one which fades in gradually - for this reason, a typical rock tune is better than a typical classical tune.

Luckily, the days when buying a new phone means that you have to laboriously re-enter all of your precious contact numbers are long gone. There are a number of different ways that you can transfer contacts between your old and your new phone, including: SIM CARD The original and simplest way to port your contacts is via the SIM card. This system sells itself on the ease of use and the fact that it guarantees universal compatibility, but this simplicity also brings with it the inflexibility - the SIM card can hold just one name and one number per contact, and a typical limit the number of contacts it 250, so it is rapidly ending its tenure as a medium for the storage and transfer of contact information.
Advantages: Ultimate cross-device compatibility Disadvantages: Limited capacity BUSINESS CARDS VIA BLUETOOTH Bluetooth connectivity allows data to be relayed between two phones within a range of about ten metres. All Bluetooth-enabled phones can send and receive contacts as vCard files, which allows you to transfer a complete contact to another phone with ease. Using the "Mark/Unmark" feature of your Nokia device, you can also send a batch of contacts at once - the phone still makes a separate transfer per contact, but provided the two devices are paired and set to automatically accept transmissions from each other, you can set things in motion and put the kettle on whilst the phones do most of the hard work - it's as easy as Options>Send business card>Via Bluetooth. This is an effective method to transfer data, but unfortunately different versions used in different phones (depending on age and OS) mean that even two different Nokia devices might not be compatible for this method.
Advantages: Easy to use and almost entirely automatic Disadvantages: Not a reliable cross-platform method SERVER SYNCHRONISATION A growing feature of the mobile internet is the ability to transfer your phone's personal data with a remote server, which is not necessarily the ideal way to transfer between devices but gives the added functionality that you can recover your data wherever you are in the world as long as you have internet access through your phone, so if you lose your data (or even your entire phone) on a business trip abroad, you don't have to wait to get home to recover it. Advantages: Any PC-connectivity-enabled Nokia phone is compatibile (PC only), cross-brand support (Mac only) Disadvantages: Synchronisation software not always reliable CONTENT COPIER Using Nokia Content Copier from any of the three PC Suites mentioned above, you can copy all or a selection of personal data from your phone into a backup file that can be restored to your phone after a repair or update, or transferred to another compatible phone. This gives ultimate protection as almost all of your phone contents can be saved, but the big downside is that this method is no use to you if you are coming to Nokia from another brand. Symbian acceptance restriction used to extent any apps online installed upon a dungeon phone or smartphone which used Symbian OS. It means if we need to implement unsigned applications we need to penetrate Symbian acceptance restriction. Every Symbian OS v9 (or newer) application has to be signed to be installed on the devices. If an application requires basic capabilities only, it can be signed with self-signed certificate using only your own computer. Basic capabilities include LocalServices, NetworkServices, ReadUserData, UserEnvironment and WriteUserData. Starting with S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 release (aka S60 3.2) the Location capability can also be granted to self-signed applications. The instructions below show the steps of getting a developer certificate from Symbian Signed. It can be used by the developers to sign an application during development/testing. It can be used by the end users to sign unsigned applications. The DevCertRequest tool requires a certificate and a private key to be present when generating the request. If you have a TC TrustCenter Publisher ID, you can generate a certificate (.cer) and a private key (.key) file from it.

Ridiculous, as there are no Symbian viruses for S60v5. Only S60v2's are affected also thanks in part to the encryptions used in S60v5, which the reason why it is unnecessary for S60v5 to have Anti Viruses. However, as anyone could tell you, the memory cards are vulnerable to PC viruses which at times may render files invisible. The same viruses which affect flash disks also affect memory cards since they are of the same type of flash hardware. Although of course the phone cannot be infected.
The White Screen Of Death (WSOD) Solution

The WSOD occurs wen the firmware boot analysis fails to verify the intergrity of memory card. This could happen due to improper plug out the memory card from computer or a laptop without terminating the active connection "Safely Remove Hardware" or force fone shutdown with taking out battery few times, these can lead to corrupted memory card.
Its same like a desktop / laptop computer, the more u improper shutdown, the problem will rise on the next start.
Its advisable to make a full backup of memory card somewhere in computer, incase of crash, the user can just format the memory card and opy back the old data.
Having an issue with your Nokia 5800XM / Nokia N97 when it simply couldn't boot up with stuck at Nokia logo and the only way out was to do hard reset. No more hard reset again say no more to losing all my data and tried playing with battery, SIM, SD/SDHC, headphones and charger random insertion and removal.
All you need is: - Nokia Nokia 5800XM / Nokia N97 - Charger
Follow these steps: 1. Turn OFF your phone. 2. Insert charger. 3. Remove charger right after screen lights up. 4. Wait a couple of seconds till screen turns off and just after that press power button. 5. After standard vibration notification just put your charger in. 6. You can insert your PIN again. 7. Done !.

Memory card or flash memory card is solid-state electronic flash memory data storage device capable of storing digital contents. Most SD cards ship preformatted with the FAT or FAT 32 file system on top of an MBR partition scheme. The ubiquity of this file system allows the card to be accessed on virtually any host device with an SD reader. Also, standard FAT maintenance utilities (e.g. SCANDISK) can be used to repair or retrieve corrupted data. SD cards with 4 GB and smaller capacities can be used with many systems by being formatted with FAT16 (4 GB only possible by using 64 kByte clusters, and not widely supported) or FAT32 file system (common for file systems 4 GB and larger). On an SD card, this is unnecessary, as the time required to access any block is the same. Defragmenting an SD card will wear the card out slightly, as the number of writes are limited before failure occurs (usually 100 000 times).

Solution -------- 1. Close all applications running in the background. 2. Delete the contents of C:\System\cache. 3. Delete the contents of C:\System\dmgr. 4. Delete the contents of C:\System\temp.
Avoidance --------- 1. Large and slow loading sites. 2. Full flash based websites. 3. Flash based games sites.
Why? - Because, we're using smartphones and not a personal computer, the device built in browser has liitations and dont expect it to deliver what you always do on the personal computer.

Certificate Error - Solved !

1. With the phone switched on, press the power button key once. 2. Scroll down to and select "Remove E: Memory Card". 3. Select Yes to remove the memory card. 4. Press OK and remove memory card from phone. 5. Press the Dialler on the main screen. 6. Type *#7370# 7. Enter security code. Default is 12345 unless it has been changed. 8. The phone will reset, wait for this to complete and power back on. 9. Select your country and type in the correct time and date. 10. Wait for the phone to complete its configurations, you may receive "My Nokia" or tutorial messages. 11. Power off phone. 12. Insert the memory card. 13. Power on the phone. 14. Wait for the phone to install any pre-loaded content from the memory card 15. Phone is ready to install applications, without "Expired Certificate" error message.

1. To bring out the Shortcuts on your Screen/Desktop-> Settings/Personal/Home Screen/Home Screen Theme and select Shortcut bar, you can then select which shortcut to display if goto "Shortcuts". This will also bring out the "Track" playing being displayed when you open the Music Player.
2. Tap the Clock to bring out the Clock menu and make your alarm, alarm repeat is now built-in.
3. Tap the "General" or Date (the set Profile besides the clock) and the Profile selection menu pops out, almost similar to pressing the "Power" button in all S60, but here the Remove memory is not shown, but "Calendar" shortcut is included and the other profiles as well.
4. If you are on the Numeric Keypad, pressing the [#] key alternately will toggle the General and Silent Profiles, same as before, which means long press on zero [0] will bring out bookmarks for the Web.
5. Tapping on the displayed To do or Calendar entry will bring you immediately to that particular item.
6. Tapping the Active Icon on the Top Left (near the battery indicator) will give you shortcuts for any of the active icons.
7. Long press on the Green Call Button will still activate the Voice Command Prompt
8. Long press on the center button is similar to the Long press on the "Menu" key (the yin-yang key on most S60) which will bring out the menu for all the active applications.
9. Go to Applications/File Manager and setup "Backup" for automated backup schedule of your phone data.
10. How to update your Nokia 5800 firmware using your phone. - Press *#0000# to display phone factory information and firmware - Now press options and select check for updates - The newest update is sent to your phone from nokia - Download and install updates. - This is done using GPRS or WIFI Connectivity.
11. Use Dialer and press # for about 2 seconds will switch the profile between Silent and General; press and hold 0 will open the web browser; press and hold 1 will open the voice mailbox
12. There is a shortcut key for Music, Gallery, Share, Video, Web shortcut at the top right corner just below the front camera
13. Press and hold the Green caller button when standby mode will activate the voice command. You could call the name from the contact or application name.
14. Organize your sms by grouping them like outlook by Messaging -> Option -> Setting -> Text message -> Other -> Show messages in groups -> Yes
15. Notification light will blink if there is unread sms/missed call. It could be turned off at Settings -> Notification light -> Off
16. If the touch input is not accurate, you could calibrate your screen at Touch Input-> Touch Screen Calibration -> ( Tap around the 4 dots at the corner)
17. Turning control functions: a. Rotate your screen horizontal or vertical b. Silence your phone for incoming call by rotate your phone with screen facing down. c. Snooze the alarm by rotating phone screen facing down
18. Theme effect will give 3D and transition effect if on but will slow down your tube considerably. Settings -> Personal -> Themes -> General -> Themes effects -> On/Off
19. Shortcut to exit application : Press and hold the middle white button then press and hold the program that you wish to quit, an open/exit option will pop out (useful for those haven’t install handy taskman yet)
20. When using handwriting input, slide from left to right is Spacebar, right to left is Backspace
21. Organize your menu by Menu -> option -> organize. You could drag and drop the location of the application you wish to relocate.

31. If you can’t find your songs after transferring from your pc to memory card, go to music player -> Option -> Refresh library
32. Always install your phone theme on the memory cards. This is because if some theme does not work (Christmas tree) then you need to flash your phone.
33. Uninstall your application in proper way. Use Menu -> Setting -> Application mgr. -> Installed apps -> Choose application then option n uninstall.

The PUK (Pin Unblocking Key) is used to unblock a SIM. As a security feature to avoid brute force attacks on SIMs, a SIM is blocked after three incorrect password entries in a row. Once it reaches this state, an eight-digit PUK is needed to unblock the SIM and allow it to be used on a GSM network again, although it can always be used for emergency calls, even in a blocked state.
A PUK is stored on the SIM and is known by the network operator. Although often included with documentation supplied when subscribing to a network, the PUK is generally unknown to the end user - some networks even take the step of monetising PUK codes by offering access to them as a dedicated service. If a PUK code is entered 10 times incorrectly, the SIM must be returned to the operator for reactivation.
PUK1 and PUK2 are used to unblock PIN1 and PIN2 respectively. As PIN1 is the primary means of access to a handset, blocking PIN1 will block the entire handset until PUK1 is entered. Conversely, as PIN2 only manages restriction of a small set of features, the blocking of PIN2 will still allow normal operation of all handset functions apart from those that normally need a valid PIN2, which remain locked out until the PUK2 is entered.
In general we as a user need these information on PIN1, PIN2, PUK1 & PUK2 under certain circumstances, where by:
PIN1 & PIN2 - Supplied by telco onto the SIM card itself, incase of blocked, please call the telco to acquire it. PUK1 & PUK2 - Supplied by telco itself, do call their careline / helpline to acquire these information.

Installing & Removing Hello OX - ROM Patcher

I think most are confused about "Hacking" a phone. Basically Hello OX will just install few system files in C:\ and install ROM Patcher to open access "READ & WRITE" for all files in C:\
After installing Hello OX2, it will prompt you to keep or to uninstall, just uninstall Hello OX2 and leave the ROM Patcher in your phone.
To hack your phone, run ROM Patcher and enable all the .RMP files, when hack activated GREEN icon will be shown.
To disable hackings, just run ROM Patcher again and disable the .RMP files located in there.
If you want to completely unhack the phone, just install Hello OX and run it again, it will prompt for "This phone already hacked, if u wan to unhack please continue .. or whatever message which reminds you there .. and Hello OX will remove ROM Patcher plus related files.
Remove Hello OX and double confirm on the memory card and remove manually E:\Patches folder completely, and your phone is now completely unhacked.
Remember, removing Hello OX may cause some installed program at the hacked period fails to run.

Method 1
There are times when a person gets tired of the way his/her phone’s UI looks, on most occasions the simple task of changing the theme acts as a refreshment, but those of you who seek more read on. Changing fonts on the 5800 is a simple matter of copying a folder across and restarting the phone, the process takes under 2 minutes and should you want to go back to the original fonts, that takes even lesser time. Below are a few demos of different fonts on the 5800, there is a download link at the bottom of each set should you decide to try the font on your own device. Click on the screenshots to enlarge.
Procedure To Apply New Fonts - Connect the phone in the ‘Mass Storage’ profile to the computer. Alternatively, you can use the memory card reader. - Goto the Memory Card, it shows up as a Removable Disk in ‘My Computer’. (Windows) - Navigate to the ‘resource’ folder and open it. - Copy the ‘Fonts’ folder into in. (Download links to Sample folders below) - Eject the device and restart. - You should see the new fonts applied.
Procedure To Use Own Fonts (*.TTF) - Make 4 copies of the font you desire to use and place them in a folder labeled ‘Fonts’. - Name them exactly as:
s60snr.ttf s60ssb.ttf s60tsb.ttf S60ZDIGI.ttf
- Copy this folder to the ‘resource\fonts’ directory on the memory card and restart the device.
Reverting To Original Font - Connect the phone in the ‘Mass Storage’ profile to the computer. Alternatively, you can use the memory card reader. - Goto the Memory Card, it shows up as a Removable Disk in ‘My Computer’. (Windows) - Navigate to the ‘resource’ folder and open it. - Delete the folder labeled ‘Fonts’. Alternatively you can choose to rename it to ‘Fonts2 or anything that you like. - Restart the phone, the originals should have been restored.
In case something goes wrong e.g. the characters are not displayed and so on, simply turn off the device, remove the microSD and start the phone. (You can delete the Fonts folder subsequently) Since we are using the removable microSD to experiment this process cannot damage your phone. Also, while choosing a font do keep in mind the fact that it will affect the font of the Web Browser also, so please keep something readable. E.g. The second font in the above list, looks ‘cool’ but will make web browsing a pain. Method 2
Some requirements: - A file manager for S60v5 (X-Plore recommended) - Your own ".ttf" fonts collection. - Your relaxed free time.
Here is the step to change your Nokia 5800 font: 1. Open X-Plore, go to configuration menu and tick show hidden files and system folders option. 2. Go to z:/resource/fonts folder 3. Write down all file names on that folder, as for v31 is
- S60SC.ccc - S60TCHK.ccc - S60ZDIGI.ttf
3. Make three copy of your font and rename it (example: arial.ttf to S60SC.ccc, S60TCHK.ccc and S60ZDIGI.ttf). 4. Connect your phone to your computer. 5. Go to E:\resource (memory card) and make a new folder called Fonts. 6. Send all your fonts to that new folder (it must be e:/resource/fonts/S60SC.ccc, S60TCHK.ccc and S60ZDIGI.ttf). 7. Restart and you have the font changed!
Step to delete a custom font and revert to default font: 1. Connect your phone or memory card to your computer. 2. Go to e:/resource (memory card) and delete a folder called Fonts. 3. Restart and you have the font changed back to default one!
Its is not guaranteed this works or not, personally I never tested it because the fonts filenaming convention differs according to firmware versions.
Merge Custom Font With Chinese Language Support Nokia 5800XM

What do you need?
1. You custom font. For this example we will be using Eras Medium ITC. 2. You need the original Nokia 5800 fonts. 3. You need a font editor. For this example we will be using High Logic Font Creator.
The idea is pretty simple actually which is to copy over the custom font and overwrite into the original font but to keep the chinese fonts intact.
The first step is to open both your font files. Firstly we open the ERASMD.ttf and S60SC_C.ttf. Then what you do is basically click on any of the characters in your custom font (in this situation is ERASMD.ttf) then select all (Ctrl-A) and go to Edit > Copy user posted image Then go to your original font file (S60SC_C.ttf) and paste the file. Take notice, you need to scroll down and select the comma, then go to Edit > Paste Special. The comma can be found right after this wiggly looking underscore. I will explain why the comma at the end of the tutorial.
Next you will prompted with a small window. Be sure to check Glyph Mappings and select Overrule Same Mappings. What this means is basically for the ABC and 123 fonts, it will overwrite the old font so that the new custom font will take over. Then just hit OK. Give it some time to process. user posted image The final step is to save the file. Go to File > Save As and save with the same name (S60SC_C.ttf) into your newly created Fonts Folder.
Repeat the same steps from the begining and merge your custom font with the other font file (S60TCHK_C.ttf). The reason for this is because actually S60SC_C.ttf and S60TCHK_C.ttf may look almost the same file but they contain some different characters in each.
So if you want to use it for your Nokia 5800, repeat this tutorial two times with the respective files. As for the last file (S60ZDIGI.ttf), just use back the original file because this file does not really contain any alphabets and it is okay to use back the original one. Why do I need this tutorial again? Basically for those who want to merge their custom font to enable Chinese/Japanese/Russian character support on their Nokia 5800 (or any other phones for that matter)
Why copy from the custom font to the original and not the other way around? Because the original file has about 30,000 glyphs (characters) and if you copy it over the software will crash.
Why do I need to start pasting only after the ‘comma’? Because if you paste any earlier than that, it might overwrite the special wingding characters such as the ‘arrows’ and the ‘circle with dot’etc.
I don’t have High Logic Font Creator, where can I download it? Well you have to purchase it from the link given at the begining of the tutorial. It costs USD$79 for the Home Edition and USD$149 for the Professional Edition.

Prepaid User's Credit Draining Issue

Unfortunately, this is caused by the end-user themselves. This issue can be override by doing some settings on the phone. The issue involves data usage without the user's concern, If u have noticed, the device and some applications will warn the users regarding Data / Call / SMS use permission, and most of the users are actually lack of read and understand these messages.
1. Remove the STREAMING profile permanently by deleting the setting from telco. 2. In the INTERNET section remove all the telco settings. 3. In the MULTIMEDIA section remove all the telco settings except the one applicable for you, as in my case my SIM card is 3G, so I just keep my CELCOM 3G MMS only and delete permanently the rest of it. 4. In the WAP SERVICES section remove all the telco settings except the one applicable for you, as in my case my SIM card is 3G, so I just keep my CELCOM 3G WAP only and delete permanently the rest of it.
The reason you are deleting the unwanted settings is a special cause which you will overcome the credit drain issue.
Unable To Start Operation, Installer Already In Use Error

Solution 1 - Try terminate the running applications using KILL ME application.
Solution 2 - Eject the memory card from device using proper method, press OFF button once and scroll down to select REMOVE MEMORY CARD option. Then re-insert back the memory card. Solved, this happens due to system busy while reading memory card for installation preparation.
Auto Answer Enabled Automatically

Here is a tutorial on how to install .DM protected theme files for the Nokia phones. These files are files packaged with Nokia's DRM (Digital Rights Management) and we use this to protect our work from being edited. Many people keep asking me how to install files in .DM and are having difficulties installing these files but it is quite easy. If you are experiencing problems just don't do the following things:
- Do not change .DM to any other extensions, it's pointless it won't work. - Do not unzip it, since you cannot open them in WinZip or WinRAR or compression tools. - These .DM files are locked permanently, which means you can't edit them.
The only way to install .DM files, is via Bluetooth from another phone and receive (immediately choose INSTALL) upon receive.
Make Nokia 5800 XpressMusic's Battery Last As Long As Possible

The battery is charging when the battery icon's bar chart (in the top right corner of the screen) is animated. When the battery is full, the bar chart is full and has stopped moving. If you want to make sure the battery is full, wait for the animation to stop moving before you disconnect the charger. The whole charging process on an empty battery may take a couple of hours, but this can vary tremendously depending on what kind of charger you use. The higher the charger's "mA" rating, the quicker it will charge the battery. Different Nokia chargers have different mA ratings, which are visible on an engraved panel below the prongs. Incidentally, you do not need to empty the battery before charging. Modern lithium phone batteries can be recharged however full they are. Money-saving, tree-hugging hint: Disconnect the charger from the mains wall socket when not in use. Chargers which are left plugged in use a small amount of electricity which will cost you money and cause needless damage to the environment. This applies to all electronic appliances, unplug them when you don't need them.
Do NOT switch the phone off! We're often told to turn lights off to save energy, but this advice does not work on mobile phones. In fact, although it sounds crazy, your phone's battery charge will last longer if you DON'T turn it off! The reason for this is that devices like the 5800 are actually pocket-sized computers with a phone built into them, which is why they're often called "smartphones". Just like PCs, smartphones take a while to boot up, and this booting process involves lots of intensive computing tasks that help to get the phone ready for use. Switching a phone on actually uses far more battery power than simply leaving the phone on, and of course if you switch the phone off you will have to switch it back on again at some point. If you switch a phone on and off lots of times, it will use up the battery very quickly, because you're asking it to boot up lots of times. Your battery will last a LOT longer if you just leave the phone on all the time, and charge it while it's still on. A fully-charged 5800 can stay switched on in standby mode for up to two weeks, because in standby mode with the screen switched off it doesn't have to do much except wait for calls or commands. You don't need to do anything special to put the 5800 into standby mode, it is automatically in standby when it isn't being used. There is no real need to ever switch a mobile phone off, unless something has gone wrong with it and you want to try rebooting it.
Shutdown Unnecessary Applications The 5800 is an S60 smartphone, and can run several applications at once (for example you can listen to music while surfing the web and receiving instant messages). However, the more applications you run at once, the quicker the battery will be drained, so it's a good idea to shut down any applications you don't need. You can see all the current running applications by doing the following, hold down the white menu button for a few seconds (you can let go of the button once the Open Applications menu appears). Select an icon in the Open Apps menu to go to that application, and exit the app from its own options menu to shut it down. Alternatively, most apps can be shut down by going to them and pressing the red button below the screen. The fewer apps that run simultaneously, the longer the battery will last. Running fewer apps simultaneously will also make the phone run faster overall, because it has less to do at once.
Turn Down The Screen Brightness To Lowest Acceptable Level One of the biggest battery drains on portable devices is the screen's lighting system, which is why mobile device screens usually dim themselves when they're not in use. You can make your phone's battery last longer if you turn down the screen's brightness to the lowest level that you're okay with. Here's how to do it on the 5800, press the white menu button, select "Settings", select "Phone", select "Display", select "Light Sensor", then adjust the slider towards "Minimum" to dim the display. Use the lowest setting that feels comfortable. When you've finished, select "OK", then press the red button to go back to the front page. When you're not using the 5800 it's a good idea to lock the screen, partly because it stops the screen being touched by mistake, but also because it switches the screen off too. The phone itself carries on running, but the screen being off will make the battery last a lot longer. You can lock the screen manually by flicking the "keyguard switch", which is in the middle of the right side of the phone. You can unlock the screen by flicking the same switch again. (Don't worry about the switch returning back to its original position, it's meant to do that.) In case you forget to do it manually, you can make the screen dim automatically when it isn't being used. Here's how to set the screen auto switch-off period, press the white menu button, select "Settings", select "Phone", select "Display", select "Light Time-Out", then move the slider to the quickest setting that you feel comfortable with. When you've finished, select "OK", then press the red button to go back to the front page. Alternatively, you can set the screen lock to go on automatically (which dims the screen as well as locking it), press the white menu button, select "Settings", select "Phone Management", select "Auto Keyguard", select "Keypad Autolock Period", select "User Defined", then enter how long you want the phone to wait before locking the screen, select "OK", then press the red button to go back to the front page.
Use Headphones Instead Of Speakers If you listen to music on the 5800's built-in speakers you will use the battery up more quickly than if you listen through headphones. Headphones are inside your ear so they use much less power to deliver the same intensity of sound, whereas speakers have to get the sound to your ear over a much longer distance.
Avoid Using Camera Flash Unnecessarily In some situations (such as a dark room) you need to use the 5800's camera flash in order to get a decent picture, and in other situations (such as being outdoors on a bright day) the camera will automatically switch the flash off when taking pictures. However, there are many situations which fall between these two extremes, where the 5800's camera will automatically use the flash, but where you could get a reasonable photo without it. In those circumstances you may want to switch the flash off because it's using up the battery unnecessarily. To switch the 5800's flash off completely, press the camera button on the right side of the phone, select the flash icon (by default it's "A" for Automatic), double-click on "Off", then take the picture with the camera button. You can choose the other flash modes (On, Auto, Red Eye Reduction) using the same process.
Turn Off Screen Touch Vibrations Touch Screen vibration motor disable will save some battery usage too, to disable press the white menu button, select "Settings", select "Personal", select "Profiles", select "General" (or whatever profile you normally use), select "Personalise", select "Touch Screen Vibration", select "Off". Press the red button to get back to the front page.
Use 2G instead of 3G The 5800 can use both 2G and 3G phone networks. The advantage of 3G is a very high speed of internet access, the latest 3G networks have a technology called 3.5G HSDPA which lets you use speeds up to many megabits, comparable to PC broadband connections at home. The disadvantage of 3G networks is that they use up a phone's battery more quickly during calls. The most popular kind of 2G network is called GSM, and the most popular kind of 3G network is called UMTS, and is also known as WCDMA. The 5800 uses GSM for 2G and UMTS/WCDMA for 3G. (Incidentally, there's also a 2G network called CDMA but this is nothing to do with UMTS/WCDMA.) By default the 5800 uses 3G networks, but automatically switches to 2G when there is no 3G network available in your current location. If you don't need high speed internet access, try switching your phone into 2G-only mode in order to save battery life during phone calls. Here's how to do it on the 5800: Press the white menu button, select "Settings", select "Connectivity", select "Network", select "Network Mode", select "GSM", select "OK", then press the red button to go back to the front page. If you want to go back to automatically selecting 3G networks when available, repeat the above process but select "Dual Mode" instead of GSM. If you want to use the internet remember to do switch back to Dual Mode, otherwise your 5800 will be stuck in 2G mode which means a very slow internet connection.
Try To Get Good Signal The better the signal on your phone, the easier it is for the phone to connect to a base station (aka phone mast or phone tower). The easier it is to connect to a base station, the less power a phone uses during calls. By making sure you have a good signal during calls, texts or internet use, you can make the phone's battery last longer. You can see the current strength of the phone's signal in the top left corner of the screen, and below it it should say "3G", "3.5G" or display an aerial logo in 2G networks. The higher the bar, the better the signal, and the longer your phone's battery will last when connected to the base station. You can get a better signal by being out in the open, or if you're indoors try to be near windows. The best signals are when you're as near as possible to a base station, with a clear line of sight. Modern phones are able to connect even when they're deep inside buildings, but this requires more power which uses up the batteries more quickly.
Use Offline Mode (aka Flight Mode) If you're using your 5800 just for offline things like listening to music or watching a video, and you don't need to take any calls on it, you might want to switch it into Offline mode (also known as Flight mode). Offline mode means that the phone switches off anything which involves radio transmissions, such as phone calls, text messages, internet connections, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. This is often required on aircraft, in certain hospitals and on building sites with explosives, due to fears about radio interference (the aircraft requirement is why it's also known as Flight mode). Going into Offline mode switches off all of the phone's current connections. You can manually switch on Wi-Fi in Offline mode, but the phone will first remind you that you're in Offline mode and ask you for permission for each connection. If you've been told by someone to stop radio transmissions, don't allow such connections. Offline mode saves a certain amount of battery life as the phone no longer has to use its radio transmitters, but it does mean that the phone cannot send or receive any calls or texts. (The one exception is an emergency number such as 112 in Europe, 999 in the UK or 911 in the US, all phones can contact emergency numbers in all circumstances, even without a SIM card.) It's also worth noting that Offline mode doesn't actually save that much battery life, as modern wireless devices are very good at making connections and then keeping them open with as little power as possible. Using connections uses up battery life, but simply having connections open doesn't use that much power. To put the 5800 into Offline mode, On the phone's front page (aka its standby screen), click on the date at the top of the screen. From the drop-down menu, select "Offline", then select "Yes" if necessary. The signal bar will turn into an "X" to show that the phone is no longer connected to the phone network, and all other wireless connections will also be broken. To put the phone back into normal mode, click on the front page's date again and select "General", then select "Yes" if necessary. (You can also use this menu to select other profiles if you prefer, profiles can be customised by pressing the white menu button, then "Settings", then "Personal", then "Profiles".)
Certificate Error Notification - General Explanations

Message - Certificate error. Contact the application supplier. Explanation - You may have tried installing unsigned application. Note that signing is mandatory S60 3rd Edition. You can use self-signed certificate or developer certificate from Symbian Signed to sign your application.
Message - Unable to install. Constrained by the certificate. Explanation - This message pops up when you attempt to install developer certificate in the unsupported device. The developer certificate from Symbian Signed can only be used in a limited number of devices. Remember that you have to send your IMEIs to Symbian Signed when requesting certificate. You cannot use the certificate in other devices that is not in your IMEIs list.
Message - Required application access not granted. Explanation - Check that your certificate can be used to sign all capabilities needed by your application. For example, if you use self-signed certificate, you can only sign basic set capabilities, i.e. NetworkServices, ReadUserData, WriteUserData, LocalServices and UserEnvironment. If your application requires one of the extended capabilities, for example SwEvent, you cannot sign it with self-signed certificate. In this case, apply for developer certificates from Symbian Signed.
Message - Unable to install a protected application from an untrusted supplier. Explanation - If you use self-signed certificate, make sure that your application uses unprotected UID, i.e. 0xA0000000 - 0xAFFFFFFF. If you use protected UID (0?20000000 - 0?2FFFFFFF) or legacy UID (0?10000000 - 0?1FFFFFFF), you will get this message.
Message - Unable to install. Explanation - This message may come up when your installation file (.sis/.sisx) copies files to other application?s private folder, i.e. \private\uid. Note that Symbian 9 introduces data caging concept, it means you dont have access to other applications private folder.
Message - Expired Certificate Explanation - Do this? Set the phone date back by 1 year or 5-6 months.
Message - Update error Explanation - Uninstall any previous version of the application, then switch on/off the phone and install again.

There is a question that people always questioned on the forum and another sites. The problem that appears to be common to all s60 3rd devices. The topic is how to removed themes from your device? Mostly they removed it using Application Manager, for example N80IE, and on newer firmware for other devices. Don’t worry, as long as you install your themes to your memory card there is an easy way to remove those unwanted themes. Here is some steps to guide you.
1. Connect your device to your PC in ‘Mass storage’ mode - or insert your MiniSD card into a card reader and connect it to your PC.
2. Once your PC recognizes your card a new drive will appear under ‘My Computer’. Open it, and browse to \Private\10207114\import.
3. Browse through each of the folders in this directory to find the theme you would like to remove. The MBM, MIF, and SKN files in each folder should each be named after the theme - so if you want to remove a theme called My Theme, look for MyTheme.mbm etc. You may see some MBM/MIF/SKN files named simply themepackage.mbm etc. In this case, simply open the SKN file in Notepad and you will see the actual theme name in the first few lines of text.
4. Once you’ve found the folder containing the theme files you’d like to remove, simply delete the contents of the folder (don’t delete the folder itself). Now put your card back in your phone you’ll notice that the theme is no longer listed under themes and you’ve freed up some space on your memory card. In newer devices, theme folders/files are located in two different directories [!:\private\10207114\import] and [!:\resource\skins] - delete the like-named folders from each directory to remove themes.

Turn the phone OFF and remove battery, unscreq the small starred screws from phone
We'll start to remove the upper panel (see diagram). Getting started is from, so as to stay top of the accelerometer sensor lights.
Removed the lid. You should get as in the picture.
Now we'll see the speaker. It should be pulled out and turned upside down.
There will be two copper contact pins which should be unbent (see image).
Unbend them and then place it back to original position on phone.
The earpiece problem is now solved.

Use a masking tape in the first picture (some cheap PVC electrical tape), put two layers of it, the upper one a bit smaller then the bottom one (maybe it would work even better if the upper one was larger since it would be even smoother transition). the stylus is bent at the top so it slides in easily without tearing the tape and out it goes as it should.

What you need to do is report the loss/theft to the police and to your network operator immediately that you know of the problem - your operator can then deactivate the SIM so that whoever has your phone can't make any calls on your account. Depending on which country you are in, your operator could also add your phone's IMEI to a blacklist shared with other networks - this will prevent the phone being used on networks in that country and is the most effective way to thwart thieves and those who buy stolen goods from thieves. How do I protect my data in case of loss/theft?
You can lock your phone with the security keyguard, this will then kick in after a pre-set number of minutes, requiring the security code (sometimes called the lock code) to be entered in order to access the phone.
If you intend to protect your phone data this way, there are two important things to remember. The first is to change the code from the standard 12345, which virtually everybody knows, and the second is not to forget your code, because if you do you will need to visit your local Nokia service point to clear the code - a process which will also wipe your data.
However, the real truth is that unless you are Barack Obama, Madonna or somebody equally high-profile, the average thief doesn't care for your data. The common thief is after the hardware - the phone would be sold on and in use by somebody else, your data would be wiped. The best security for your phone itself is to keep it secure.
Can I lock the phone remotely?
Only if you are prepared for this eventuality in advance. Some phones such as the N96 have a Remote Phone Locking facility which you can activate in the security settings which will lock the phone when it receives a pre-set message. On other S60 smartphones, you may be able to install third-party software to achieve the same thing. All of this, of course, relies on your phone being able to receive the security message, which means that it must be switched on and your SIM card to still be in. Can my phone be tracked?
Practically, no. If your SIM card is in and the phone switched on, your network operator knows roughly where it is by the base station (mast) that it is closest to, but this is not something that is available to the end user and it only gives an approximate location anyway.
Some people ask why their phone can't be tracked by GPS. The reason is that GPS-equipped phones have GPS receivers only, they receive signals from GPS satellites in order to work out the coordinates of the phone's location on the Earth's surface - the phone is not in any way broadcasting its location for the GPS system or any other system to follow. Can't I destroy the phone remotely? No, stories that you can are nothing more than urban legend.

If you set your phone free you can read your memory card password from a file on your internal phone memory. Your memory card password is stored in C:\sys\data\mmcstore (this folder only exists if you've set a memory card password).
First - You need to hack your phone. Phone can't see the hidden folder.
Second - Open X-Plore / Y-Browser file browser - Go to C:\<phone memory> then find SYS folder - Find next data folder, search the file name "mmcstore" - Your MMC password located at here C:\sys\data\mmcstore\
After that, copy the "mmcstore" file to other directory on "E:\" and rename them to "mmcstore.txt".
Now open this file, you'l now get to see your memory card password ! Screenshot
If your password has numbers or other strange characters, there may be question marks in between them. Just ignore those question marks. If you open the file in Notepad on a computer with Windows, there will be spaces in between the characters of your password.

Home Screen Icons Not Working (Hacked Phone Only!)

Method 1 Problem: This is the problem I have and any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Well, the problem is on the home screen (desktop) of my phone none of the icons are working. When I select the "Shortcuts Bar" as the homescreen theme, the phone does not display any of the shortcuts on the home screen. When I touch the locations where the shortcuts would be (on the homescreen) I can see the hit area getting highlighted, but nothing happens (also none of the shortcut icons are shown either). Further, the "phonebook" and the "dialler" icons at the botton of the screen don't work either, when I "touch" them (atleast the two icons can be seen here, but nothing happens), plus pressing the "green" hard key does not bring up the dialler screen as well. I tried everything I could think of, such as stripping out all themes and even tried a factory reset, but none of these did any good. Everything else works fine on the phone (including the contacts bar on the home screen) and the phone has 40+ mb free (C drive). So, I'm pretty much clueless as to what might be wrong here.
Solution: To those have missing icons on your shortcut bar, you can recover it back without hard reseting your 5800. Just direct to c:\private\10202BE9\persists\ and delete 10275102.cre and restart. Your 5800 should hang in the blank homescreen. this is because it is recreating the deleted file which may be corrupted. Later a while, your homescreen shortcut should reappear and working fine. Well, this only happen if hack is installed.

When shopping for memory cards, we tend to compare cards by the X speed, such as 80X, 150X, etc. But what are we measuring? The X speed is how much information the card can accept per second, also known as the write speed. A card that can accept more information per second when compared to another is referred to as being a fastercard. X is the baseline equal to a card accepting 150KB in one second.
- 1X = 150KB per second - 10X = 1.5MB per second - 50X = 7.5MB per second - 80X = 12MB per second - 150X = 22.5MB per second - 300X = 45MB per second
Faster cards can accept more megabytes of information per second. But just how much of an advantage is a faster card? With some cameras, there isn’t much advantage to using a faster card, while others will benefit from the high speed.
Cameras don’t capture an image and then immediately write the file to the card. Instead, the image file goes to a camera’s internal storage memory first; this memory is called a buffer. The buffer then feeds data into the memory card at a steady pace. Often a camera’s buffer is large enough to hold a significant number of image files, waiting to be saved to the memory card. Once the buffer begins to fill up, the camera slows down considerably.
The buffer is writing to the memory card at a speed that is limited by the camera design. If a camera is designed to write at a maximum 80X speed (12MB per second), the speed won’t be increased by using a memory card that’s rated at 150X. But there certainly isn’t any harm done to the camera or card by using a card that’s faster than the camera can write either. Memory Cards for Video Clips
There is an advantage to using a faster card in a compact camera for capturing movies. Each movie frame is very small, usually less than 1/3 megabyte for silent video, slightly more for sound video. Most compact cameras capture movie frames at the rate of 15 or 30 frames per second. At the higher quality 30 fps rate this means the camera is capturing roughly 10MB of information per second. If the camera is not equipped with a card rated at 80X or higher, the internal buffer will soon fill up and stop the camera from capturing video. Because sound is also captured which increases the overall file size, manufacturers often recommend cards that are even faster than 80X. What About SDHC Cards?
Secure Digital High Capacity cards are a large capacity variation of the Secure Digital card format and are physically the same size and shape. SDHC cards are available in 4GB and larger capacities and use speed class numbers to indicate the minimum write speeds, instead of the X ratings. In order to use SDHC cards, the camera must be designed for this format and most cameras produced in 2007 accept them. SDHC cameras, card readers and other devices are backward compatible and will also accept SD cards.
The Secure Digital Association (SDA) defines three speed classes in order to let users identify speed and performance capabilities of SDHC cards and the host products. The speed class rating specifies a MINIMUM sustained write speed for SDHC cards.
- Class 2 = 2MB per second - Class 4 = 4MB per second - Class 6 = 6MB per second
The word "minimum" is the clincher. If a card writes at 3.99999 MB/sec it’s still a class 2 card. What’s the Best Card Speed to Buy?
To get the best match of speed and performance, check your device manual for recommendations. In particular, look for the maximum card size your device will accept. Check for speed recommendations so the card you buy will keep up with the device’s write speed when recording video and other high-demand applications running and storage.

Why is that when I restart my phone or move images and videos in the gallery, my images & videos are gone., but not deleted., because I can see them in my file manager and they will only show up in the gallery when I take a picture on the camera or all my songs and files are missing, or anything related to data corruption and problems located in your SD card. Check whether your memory card is under which Class. Generally there are 3 types of class for MicroSD memory card in the market now which are: Class 2, Class 4 and Class 6.
Higher class does not mean its the best where as it is actually depends on the compatibility with its host/phone/device. It is a common known problem that memory card MicroSD Class 2 is not compatible with 5800XM thus causing lots of data problem. It is recommended to at least use Class 4 to avoid this problem.
Solutions:

4. Do a PC Suite Backup and PC Backup of ALL your memory card data to avoid data lost. Please make sure the backup is done successfully. At least do the backup twice to avoid any data corruption during backup transfer.
5. Do a CLEAN format of your memory card through your PC and please make sure to do a disc check for bad sectors etc. 6. Do a CLEAN format of your memory card through your phone. 7. Restore back all the backup data to your memory card and hopefully the data problem will be solved. 8. Do remember to do backup regularly to avoid your precious data being lost. 9. If the problems still persist then probably your memory card has hardware problem and you will need a replacement.

Changing Startup Image & Sound Nokia 5800XM

Well thanks to all developers of HelloOx our 5800 is finally hacked and since like with all other previuos phones u had the ability to change the startup nokia shaking hands animation and sound to your custom animation and sounds.
To begin with u need a file explorer like xplore or y browser
- First u need to place the startup sound file( startup.mp3) to C:\system\sounds if directory not found just create it.
- Then place the startup animation files ( Startup.mbm, Startup.mif, STARTUP.r01 ) to C:\resource\apps copy 101F8763.txt to C:\private\10202be9
- Now you need to make (101F8763.txt) that you copied as a read only file, do this by highlighting the file & Menu files then click attributes, then just check the read only box.
- Restart ur device. On boot up the device will look in C:\resource\apps for the Startup.mbm and C:\system\sounds
In the attachment you will find a startup animation file and vista start up sound you can find more start up animation and sound files from internet.
Nokia 5800XM Act As Computer Modem

If you have 3.5G service in your area, the 5800XM will give you a downlink speed of up to 3.6mbps. You can use it to connect your laptop / pc either by bluetooth or by USB cable CA-101. The cable is provided in the box with the phone and offers faster speeds than a bluetooth connection can give you.
Connecting your PC to the internet is easy with your compatible Nokia 5800XM. You'll need a data connection (such as GPRS or HSDPA),a USB cable(comes with your Nokia) or a Bluetooth-enabled PC, and a network subscription with your mobile service provider for data conection.
1. First, you'll need to set up your device to act as a modem.
To set up your device you'll need to know your operator's Access Point Name (APN) and have the packet data service enabled. For help with this please contact your operator.
2. On your device locate and open the Settings application.
This is normally in the Tools folder. In Settings select and open Connection.
3. In Settings select and open Connection. 4. Select and open Packet data. 5. Select and open Access point. 6. Type in your operator's Access Point Name. 7. Press Back 8. Exit Settings. Your device is now ready to be used as a modem for your PC
Then, you'll need to connect your Nokia device and your PC in order to access the internet. You can use a USB cable for the connection, or connect wirelessly through Bluetooth.
If data transfers via USB data cable are supported for your Nokia device, you may connect the device to your PC via USB cable. On your Nokia device, choose PC Suite mode when it asks how to connect. Use your connect to internet option from your pc suite and you are ready to go.
Get Rid Of The Flashing Envelope Icon On Nokia 5800XM

If you've just put your SIM card in your Nokia 5800, you may have noticed a flashing envelope icon at the top of the screen. This icon indicates that the SIM card's own text message storage is full. This doesn't actually cause problems on the 5800 because it stores its messages in the phone's own memory, but the envelope can look a bit annoying.
To get rid of the flashing envelope: 1. On the standby screen press the white menu button. 2. Select "Messaging" 3. Select "Options" 4. Select "SIM Messages" 5. Delete some or all of the messages from the SIM messages folder using the Options menu.
This should make the flashing envelope go away. You only have to do this once because when the SIM card is emptied it won't fill any more, as the 5800 does not store messages on SIM cards.
But why does the envelope appear in the first place?
The phone uses internal memory intead of the SIM card's memory. However, SIM card memory is very limited and gets full quite quickly. If a phone relies on the SIM card for storage and the SIM card is full, then it can no longer receive messages. The 5800 does NOT use SIM cards for message storage, so it doesn't actually make any practical difference whether the SIM card is full or not. However, the flashing envelope icon will still appear if the SIM card is full just to let you know about it.
Nokia 5800XM Alarm Synchronise Error & Not Accurate

The issue seems to be a software problem in v31, a number of users have reported it. Some regular users of the 5800XM have noted that changing it to at least 10 minutes can make a difference, some others have had to make a couple of changes for anything to take effect, also try to turn off the automatic time updates feature. We shall wait until Nokia rectifies this matter in future firmware.
Meanwhile there are some solution till Nokia fix this up ..

Incoming Caller ID (Name) Not Functioning

The main reasons are:
1. Duplicate entries in contacts, the most common cause and unfortunately. The most awkward one to fix. If the phone finds the same number against more than one name, it doesn't know which to use so, perfectly sensibly, it defaults to showing the number. The only way to fix this is to remove duplicates from your contacts. Best way to do this would probably be PC Suite Contacts. When you search, use part of the number to avoid problems with formatting, searching for +60123456789 will not find +60 12 3456789, whereas searching for 789 would.
2. Using your international dial code instead of '+'. Not sure if this applies to all phones, but if you store your number using your county's international dial code (eg: 004412345678990 - WRONG) instead of the '+' sign (+4412345678990 - RIGHT), it can cause problems.
3. "(0)" area code prefixes. Only a problem if you synch with MS Outlook / PC Suite. When you specify a country in MS Outlook / PC Suite, it will insert "(0)" into your phone number after the country code +603123456789 becomes +60 (03) 23456789. You need to remove the (0).
4. 9 and 10 digit numbers. There has been one report of problems with 9 and 10 digit numbers where one size doesn't work with SMS and the other with calls. Not sure that anyone else has ever come across this.

Recovering A Failed Firmware Update

Occasionally things go wrong when using the Nokia Software Updater (NSU). The exact cause is often unknown but it can be caused by the NSU, the phone or even the computer itself. The aim of this guide is to offer users a few tips and tricks that may aid recovery. The guide applies to most nokia phones, except the hard reset which only applies to S60 smartphones. So how do you know if an update has failed?
A failure can show itself in a number of ways, the most common one is where the NSU freezes. If it does this during the first part of the process where it downloads the firmware from nokia your phone will be ok. You will see that your phone is still switched on so it's safe to cancel the process or just remove the cable from the phone. If it freezes during the second phase when the computer is transferring the firmware to the phone this can be much more serious. When this happens leave your phone for at least 15 minutes before taking any further action. If after that time nothing has happened all you can do is pull the cable. Another failure is where your computer crashes during the second phase. This is usually the worst type of failure and often leaves the phone unrecoverable, but still it's worth trying. What can I do to recover from this failure?
The first thing to try is to remove the phones battery and leave it out for at least five minutes. Whilst doing this take the opportunity to reboot your computer in case you need it to help with recovery. Now re-insert the battery and try to switch your phone back on. If it works then all is good but before trying to update again there is a few things you need to check. Make sure that your computer is fully up to date including the latest service pack and disable all non-essential programs that are running. Also disable any anti virus and anti spyware software that you may have, now try again. If removing the battery failed to make it work then prepare your computer as mentioned above and run the NSU again. Follow all instructions and prompts that it gives you carefully as it may offer to recover your phone. If it doesn't try various combinations of connecting your phone whilst it's switched on, off and also try removing and reinserting the battery whilst it's connected. Make sure you wait in between each attempt to give the NSU time to detect the phone. What if that method doesn't work?
The next thing to try is a hard reset. This method only applies to S60 smartphones with keypads (not touchscreens):
1. Switch off the phone. 2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button. 3. While holding these buttons, hold the power button for a second to switch on the phone. 4. Release when the phone shows the nokia hands logo or shows other signs of life like the language selection screen.
It may take a few attempts and very flexible fingers. So none of that worked, what happens next?
Unfortunately you have now tried everything possible to recover from the failure yourself. The last thing for you to do now is to contact a nokia care point in your country for help. If your phone is under warranty they will repair it for free, possibly while you wait. You can find your nearest care point at:

It sometimes happens when you try to connect to the internet using you Nokia 5800, you see error message NO GATEWAY REPLY on you screen. The common perception among people is that this error message caused by a WiFi problem or bugs on your 5800. But you should know that error message is not caused by those reasons. Let me show you that the main reason of that problem can be the disable DHCP on your router so the phone can not dynamically reach an IP. Then you can set your router easily. You just need to give manually your 5800 the DNS server and IP address. You will not need the DHCP for doing that.
So the detail steps are:
1. Press the menu button. 2. Settings>connectivity>destinations. 3. Select your access point then add the new access point. 4. Select yes while it asks for AUTOMATICALLY CHECK FOR AVAILABLE ACCESS POINTS 5. Select the suitable WLAN network (choose one with known wep key). 6. Select no if it asks to CONFIGURE NOW. 7. Enter you WEP key. 8. Go to the internet (in destinations) then select you WLAN network. 9. Highlight the WLAN (data bearer) option then go to the advance settings.
10. Select ipv4 then enter these following values: - Phone ip: 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254 (range) - Subnet mask - Default gateway: this one is you router’s address (commonly 192.168.1.1) - DNS address 202.188.0.133 and 202.188.1.5 (You can choose DNS address that provided by you ISP)
11. Now finally you can access easily you WLAN network, Menu -> Settings -> Connectivity -> WLAN.
Playing N-Gage Games In Nokia 5800XM

After gathering information from various sources I have finally managed to compile a decent guide to install NGage on the Nokia 5800XM using the files which have been circulating the web for the past week.
If you have any questions please PM me on the forum or reply to the topic and I will try my best to help. Installing NGage:
Step 2 For this to correctly work, you will need to have your phone hacked, this should be no problem providing you have a little confidence and common sense. I can confirm that using HelloOX does work as it is the method I used and I can use NGage fine. If you're phone is already hacked with HelloOX and you're having trouble, ensure that all patches (open4all etc. are applied and set to auto using ROMPatcher.
Step 3 Copy the file "NGage 2.0 Installer.sis" to your phone and install it. You will need to sign the file using SignSIS GUI or a similar application, you should already have a certificate if you have hacked your phone as you need to sign HelloOX to hack successfully. The install process will take quite some time and you will be prompted to press "Yes" to various warnings. I can confirm that no harm has come to my phone from this process, however, proceed at your own risk. I take no responsibility.
Step 4 Once NGage has been installed, you will be able to find it under "Applications" on your phone. The icon will be an orange "N" and it will say "Games" underneath. To play NGage games they must be copied to "E:\N-Gage" with "E:\" being your memory card.
Controlling NGage: Since NGage is designed for phones with a keypad, and the Nokia 5800 is almost completely touchscreen, the controls must be customized. I have so far come up with two solutions, they are as follows.
Control Method #1 This is the most stable and easy to configure control scheme, I can confirm this works OK.
Step 1. Sign and install "Virtual Keyboard.sis" which can be found in the "Control Method #1" folder of the Install Package.
Step 2. Run the virtual keyboard application from your "Applications" menu and then start the NGage application. You can use the Virtual Keyboard to control your games.
Control Method #2 This control scheme is still a work in progress but, with some fiddling and a varying degree of luck, you may be able to get it to work. Some people have confirmed it working with different settings. I feel that this setup, if working correctly, would be the best way to control NGage on a Nokia 5800. I would like to request feedback from anyone who has this method working!
Step 1 Sign and install "Virtual Keyboard.sis" and then "Virtual Key.sis", both of which can be found in the "Control Method #2" folder of the Install Package.
Step 2 Start up "Virtual Keyboard" so that you have it running on screen and then proceed to start up "Virtual Key".
Step 3 In the Virtual Key application, choose "Options" then "Load Mode" and choose "Custom Mode 1".
Step 4 Press "Options" then "Add". Highlight "Original Key" and then press the Right arrow on the Virtual Keyboard application you loaded earlier. Then highlight "Mapped Key" and hold down the "Volume -" key then press the "Volume +" key. If all has worked correctly the mapped key should change to "Vol+". Then do the same for the following:
Vol+ ................. Left Vol- .................. Right No .................... Up Yes ................... Down Camera ............. K
Then press "Options" and save your "Custom Mode 1".
Step 5 Set the Virtual Key application to run in the background and completely exit the Virtual Keyboard application.
Step 6 Start up the NGage application and try to play a game. Hopefully the Up/Down volume keys will control Left/Right when holding the phone horizontally, and the other keys should do what you mapped them to above. You may have to use the volume keys in the same way you had to set them (Hold down Vol- and press Vol+ etc
So now hopefully you can play NGage. Let me know of any other control schemes you guys come up with!
Phone Halts @ Nokia Handshaking Startup Screen

It's a memory card issue, please re-format your memory card using external SD/SDHC card reader via computer and format it using Windows Explorer (My Computer -> Explore -> Memory Card Drive Letter -> Right Click and Select Format (FULL FORMAT for FAT32 & Don't do quick format.)
Re-sit the memory card in the device and start the fone, do a hard reset and reinstall all ure desired applications. My advise is for you to ScanDisk the memory card every 1 or 2 weeks to maintain the good quality. Currently the appropriate SD/SDHC for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is Class 4 and the best is Class 6.
As my personal advise and my personal experience, I never faced any problem using my device and the memory card.
1. Do not install large applications, such ad DVD movies > 500MB. 2. Run ScanDisk at least once every week. 3. Always plug-out your SD/SDHC which is connection thru device using USB cable by stopping the card process (Click the "Safely remove hardware" icon and stop the process) 4. Avoid taking out the SD/SDHC card from the device unnecessarily, let it be there and don't disturb it. 5. Install only usefull applications into the phone, dont dump things that u dont use much, if so .. use ure computer.
Solution Method 1. Use an external SD/SDHC reader and copy out all ure data's from the memory card. 2. As the oldskool DOS method .. C:\Format <memorycarddriveletter> Example: C:\Format E: (press enter) .. wait for 100% ..Format the memory card using FAT32 or alternatively, goto Windows Explorer -> Right click on the F drive -> Choose Format -> Choose FAT32 and select FULL FORMAT (Dont Use Quick Format!) 3. Finally, move back ure old backed up data to the SD card and ure phone will work properly again, Insert into device and turn ON.

If no, then im sorry, please check back ure mobile account to get manually and key in one by one.
Important: - Please make up backups from time to time, this can avoid u in trouble. - The problem was from en-user and not from Nokia, since Nokia has included backup facility in the fone itself.
Finally, please "READ THE MANUAL BOOK" before operating any devices, thats why manufacturers supply with the manual book with guided instructions for people to read n understand.

First, you need a hacked phone for you can copy files to C drive and copy the 200159ed.txt to C:\Private\10202be9\ folder and simply restart the phone and you will get every applications (even if) ‘Home Screen’ in Landscape orientation.
Enjoy this modification though this is not so useful to all also it's not compatible with all Nokia 5800XM versions.

Generally license (certificate and match key) is a Symbian signing authorisation permission for a user to install unsigned application, games and themes. Stuffs from unofficial or large vendor such as private programmers arent be able to get officially signed applications to be used directly by users, moreover it can be said as a Symbian restriction to not allow unauthorised 3rd party contents which may harm the device.

Garmin XT Mobile is GPS guiding application which used to guide routes within a specific region as same as Nokia OVI Maps, for eg. throughout a City, State or even Country road guidance and POI (auxillaries available eg. Banks, Petrol kiosks, Markets and Shopping Centres). Garmin XT Mobile is available FREE for download but only can be used with help of external devices even your phone has built in support to use GPS, its limited. Dont ask me why it's limited, ask the Garmin vendors. You need a special key to unlock privilige to use built in GPS feature.

Please use Hello OX2 which is available to download from Modifications & Tweaks section at FP, however this features only for users with firmware v31.0.101 and older, v40.0.005 unable to be hacked with Hello OX, therefore the project has been dropped by them since PNHT Team introduced custom firmware flashing method.

DISCLAIMER : The following guide might brick your phone if the steps are not followed. I will not pay the full responsibility if you bricked your phone.
This is my personal guide of the methods to flash your beloved 5800XpressMusic by using JAF. Please read the disclaimer above before moving on.
What you need to do before you flash your phone? - Do a full backup of your phone using Nokia PC Suite - Check your product code and region hardware code (Eg : RM-356 0573786) - By using the product code you found, search for the firmware/custom firmware that match with the code. - Get JAF. - And some pills in case you get a cardiac arrest when you accidentally brick your phone.
Precaution - DO NOT EVER ATTEMPT TO DOWNGRADE YOUR PHONE FIRMWARE USING JAF. - Your warranty might be VOID if you custom flash your phone. - This guide is not advisable to be used in
Why Flash your phone? - As per on v50 firmware, you cant hack your phone using HellOX2, Alternative? Pre-hacked CFW. - Better performance, tweaked system files on certain CFW - Custom modded user interface and transition graphics on certain CFW. - In case you bricked your phone unintentionally, you can recover by manual flashing. - Switch your firmware without hassel. The following guide is the guide for original FW flashing. As some CFW flashing method is different, but starting from Step 3, everything is the same.
STEP 1: Let's get started. First, download Navifirm from any modding sites you usually visit. Look for your FW and download your desired one with the codes you found in your phone. Make sure everything is correct to avoid conflict with your phone later. Tick everything and download all of them. Keep them in a folder for further use later STEP 2 : Before moving on to JAF, move all your downloaded firmware to C:\Program Files\Nokia\Pheonix\Products\yourproductcode\ Paste. If you dont have the Pheonix and the hardware region code folder, just create one.
STEP 3 : Turn on JAF in your computer and move on to BB5 tab. Untick CRT 308 but tick Manual Flash, Dead USB like what I did on the above screenshot. Click Use INI and wait for a couple of seconds until a you saw a pop out, choose your hardware region code paired with your phone model.
STEP 4 : After all you done so far, you should see something like above. Now turn off your phone and connect it to your PC with USB cable. Click the FLASH button and immediately press the power button once! Now sit back and wait for the process to go on. Meanwhile, pray for your phone to work after this.
If nothing gone wrong, you should see a Done! in JAF after the process is finished and your phone is in Local mode. Unplug the USB cable and restart. Make sure to do a soft reset after rebooting by tapping *#7370# on your phone dial.
DONE! Now you'll have your 5800XM alive again! Meanwhile do check out my review on 5800XM too!

Turn off ur phone 1st Then connect ur usb Open Jaf Pkey Set the flash file Press flash Then press the on button once

No, you don't need OVI suite, and yes, PC quite when you connect via usb

Maybe you should try hard reset first, I do that when I got errors

Use the settings you just used, shouldn't have problem

IIANM, only phoenix is not freeware, that 1 to recover from bricked phone.

i accidently flash mine with a newest C6 v20.042... by binh24, i, looking for a Photon cfw from this Photon thread... and end up to download from C6 cfw this binh24! thread...
just flash it at 12am sharp... eagerly to use Photon, now need to reinstall quite many apps back to my phone for nothing...
i tot it was a Photon cfw edi, but it is a plain C6 cfw just like PNHT one larrr... but quite satisfied, it the latest...

It depand which cfw u use ... Some cfw require to delete certain folder , some need to format

It depends on the CFW.
Try reading the release note and instructions where the CFW is found. Some may have files written into your MMC during flash, and some just need you to delete Private, Systen and Sys. But you dont have to remove it.
I saw in N8 spec list they use the same type of capacative touchscreen like iPhone/iPod
But i just have a feeling that i want a complete makeover XD Even C6 HS already bore me abit, it is no doubt useful.. But i just feel that there could be more customization to it..

So far from the first look of the Meego UI itself, it is still under development so the UI is abit laggish and bugs here and there and definitely need some polishing in that. But one thing for sure, in order for symbian to survive, a major UI overhaul and bug fixes must be done. The core OS itself are quite good actually judging the multitasking ability of the OS itself.

C6 CFW files DO NOT merge with 5800 Ori Firmware files. Best is you flash to v51/v52 then flash to the C6 which is based on the same core version (v51 or v52)
If your C6 CFW has 3 files, follow the steps in the spoiler, if it has 5-6 files, follow the step in the 1st page of the thread.

In JAF click the "BB5" tab Then setting JAF like below a. Uncheck "CRT 308" b. Check "Manual Flash" and "Dead USB" c. Check "Normal Mode" d. Make sure you uncheck "Use INI" Click on "MCU button" and wait until box appear. Then choose CORE file and click open.
7. Click on "PPM button" and wait until box appear. then choose ROFS2 file and click open.
8. Click on "APE Variant" button and wait until box appear. then choose UDA file and click open.
Your firmware files are setup and loaded ready for flashing by JAF. Turn off your phone and connect it to your pc. In the "Operations box", left click on "FLASH".

Flash an either v51 or v52 OFW/CFW first ( Depending on your C6 firmware base file version ) The settings should be the same with the one in the first-second page
----------------- Then after that only flash C6 CFW.
If your C6 CFW came with the uda, core, and rofs2, use my method in the spoiler 2 posts above,
If the downloaded C6 CFW has the complete set (5 - 6 files) in it, use the same flashing method with the v51 and v52

Hello everyone Just wanted to share with you guys.. all the CFW have some slight or minor bug.. i have tried the CFW Transformed Ultimate Beta(gautham behal) and the C6 cfw from gogoman.. On the first try it was fun to have vfw on your tube but when those little bug like when you try to unlock the screen and it wont on the first try and u hv to slide again to unlock..it sucks(Transformed cfw).. For the c6 cfw is still ok but dont hv QWERTY key .. i really miss QWERTY..

factory set would help overcome the security code when your last firmware had used non-default security code and your phone would automatically boot to start like from the factory .. you can start configure the country,time etc.. Correct me if i'm wrong

That is why new things is something i do not like to try when it is newly release. I would try it out after a year it is released.

It is still under development so the lagginess is expected. But you had a point, never buy out a new device when it is newly released. Take a good look in most of the devices out there including the industry giants like Apple. See how embarrassing to have the Antennagate issue on the first batch itself, and the OS is abit buggy with the alarm clock issues and etc etc...
But Android will soon going to mainstream for sure, the graph is been going up since its release of Android Donut.

N8 is one of the examples. My Nokia N95 initilly i thought have alarm issue, but later i found out that my alarm is turned off by my sub-concious.
1 more thing, Nokia 5800 have the torchlight function?

how come after i flash the C6,after i restart my phone,then when switch on it will stuck at the NOKIA page,din show the enter pin then will autoshutdown.this is when my memory card is in the phone. when i remove the memory card,then everything goes bac to normal.i tried remove the memory card then slot it bac,its the same,will autoshutdown.

Try to delete those files that related to previous CFW.

Try format it, maybe its the previous system file had crashed with the c6 cfw

Just delete the private, resource, sys and system folder , and if u have garmin installed, just delete the garmin related files.

you got garmin installed in mcard?
i only had garmin that prevent phone startup... remove garmin and installed it again after able to starup with mcard... till now never format nor remove mcard is needed while flasing or after that... only garmin is wengggg several times...

Your security settings has been changed to "request Lock code when SIM changed" Try revert it back later.
to revert back still need the code, default code is 12345...
like i write above, a hard reset or reflash is needed to restore the code, that is the only way that i know... if you never change the code then try 12345...

You can flash to other v52 CFW or v52 OFW, But you cannot downgrade the firmware like from v52 to v51. It will brick your phone.
