Apostle - Middling result.
The main draw is to see how Gareth Evans performed out of his comfort zone. Sad to say it didn't do to well for me. Maybe The Wickerman inspired storyline didn't leave too much room for surprise or the shift of the antagonist wasn't properly set-up. If you haven't watched the '73 cult masterpiece, this is worth a look but one too many movies about cult fanatics already rip-off that premise over the years.

Supposedly, James Cameron is working on the transfer of that movie to HD/4K and have to add, to date, not release dae yet.

Maybe waiting for a "strategic" date like an announcement of True Lies 2...

James Cameron likes to supervise his bluray releases/restoration/remastering personally, so it might take a while before True Lies gonna be releasing on bluray since he is caught up making multiple Avatar sequels at the moment.

Long long review for whaaaaaaaaaaat?!

Got people read one meh??!!?? laugh.gif

Okay lah okay lah!! tongue.gif

Most of you will know, John Carpenter directed Halloween (1978) and Halloween II (1981) which were well received.

Well, it spurred on the "slasher" films (Friday the 13th Anyone?)

And then Rob Zombie (Yes, THAT Rob Zombie) rebooted the franchise Halloween (2007) & Halloween II (2009) and for the life of me, I am vague on whether I actually watched those....

I was not motivated to watch this latest iteration, frankly, because

1). I am slasher film fatigue

2). I was disappointed that Sony did not treat us to THE short 3D remastered version of Michael Jackson's Thriller in front of this (Sony, WHAT THE HEY!!! When are we going to get to SEE that!!!)

Okay, so what happened. The critics.... like this movie. And then VERY cynically friends who are cynical to movies, watched and praised this movie!!

Paint me intrigued.

I went.

I saw.

I like!!!

From the first frame to the last.

Do note that this only acknowledges the original John Carpenter's movies and nothing else, so don't get confused.

Michael is TRULY deranged.

And it is.... infectious??

I will stop there.

Plunk down your money and go see this.

You know you want to.

My Additional Two Sen.

Based on your review on Halloween, I watched and really like it. Jamie Lee Curtis is pretty badass here. I was on the edge on my seat from beginning to the end. One question though, how did Michael found out where Laurie live?

Overlord (2018)

Okay... What do you get, when you cross WWII D-Day with Zombie and J.J. Abrams?

The answer, would probably be this movie.

The Good

1). The paratrooper scene, I have never seen anything so... captivating. Really well done. (Anti Aircraft ordinance and
chaos)
2). P.O.V of the Boyce (played by Jovan Adepo) character.
3). The script.
4). Production quality.

The Bad

1). So little background story for the characters (eg. most characters are so thinly developed)
2). I am never a fan of war movies, if anything, this movie enforces that (the ugliness of war)

The Ugly

1). The brutality. I really feel, some violence here were unnecessary...

Was surprise that this movie is already showing.

It was either this, or Bohemian Rhapsody. This had better timing for me, so...

What that, my two sen.

Hi

I may not end up watching this at the local cinema.

The reason being, I am concern what out local censorship board had done to the movie. This may end up "watched on bluray" for me.

Cheers

Rampant - another neither here nor there.

Thought this would wash away my disappointment with Overlord. Yet hit on a wall again. The setting might be intriguing and some of the action pretty alright. Sadly it didn't have the full package with inconsistent plot contrivances and not a whole lot to say or show.

Outlaw King (9 November 2018)
Director - David Mackenzie
Cast - Chris Pine, Aaron Taylor-Johnson,
Florence Pugh(The Little Drummer Girl)

It’s a tale that’s been covered before by Mel Gibson’s
biography of William Wallace Oscar-winning Braveheart.

Outlaw King picks up after a rebellion led by William Wallace
has been defeated and sees Robert the Bruce(Chris Pine)
navigating the tricky politics of swearing loyalty to English
King Edward I (Stephen Dillane) without losing the respect of
his countrymen. A broken man who can only keep his land by paying
English taxes.

To further cement bonds, King Edward marries off his goddaughter,
Elizabeth De Burgh (Florence Pugh) for diplomatic reasons.

But the situation quickly disintegrates and war resumes.
Robert is a politician who builds alliances carefully,
secretly asking his fellow Scotsman to unite the clans.
He murders the ones who threaten to tell the English about his plans.

It is an efficient and watchable film. It tells a good story with good acting.
The final battle is bloodcurdling and violent.

Outlaw King - Chris Pine entering his second phase.
Always under the impression Pine is all looks and not much of a true thespian. When he was in Hell or High Water, that was the first time seeing him flexing his acting chop for me. This is the next phase of him exploring the meatier role.

Mel Gibson's Brave Heart exaggerated Robert the Bruce act of betrayal. Here is the more palpable version of that story. He is a much bigger figure than William Wallace. Also given the fact sprawling historical epic no longer a thing in Hollywood, this movie will not match the sheer spectacle of Brave Heart. It is not a sequel to it and stood pretty solid on it's own

Endure the long set-up until second half of the movie where things escalate significantly. It's a solid excuse to keep subscribing to Netflix.
