The Predator (2018)

Battle in Space, chance encounter and Men In Black.... and that is in the first 10 minutes of the movie!!

This latest reboot.... brings back some of the magic of the original Predator movies.

Alot of the previous Predator iterations, did not really work, because it does not expend our knowledge of The Predators.

This movie touches on that. Expanding our understanding of the Predator somewhat.

The first act, stellar.

The second act, fumbled somewhere in the middle

The third act, recovered somewhat and have to add, still overshadowed by the stellar first act.

The last beat of the movie... was a little off, still overall, I did enjoy the movie.

My Two Sen

P.S.

One of the BLOODIEST Predator movies ever...

Mandy - Tripping balls of a batshit crazy masterpiece.

Say you an acquaintance of Mary Jane or a "stamp" connoisseur, this is the perfect movie to watch. Wish I was the carefree college bum ages ago who gives zero eff about the world. Here you get to experience a whack out revenge story that got to do with demon biker gang, sex cult leader and the infamous Nicholas Cage crazy acting. Either you get this or totally at lost with what you have just watched. Foreboding score by Johann Johannsson perfectly in sync with hallucinating visual cues. This is Fear and Loathing in Last Vegas with heavy dose of Gonzo Cinema action.

Alpha (2018)

This is a GORGEOUS movie.

Very reminiscent of Baraka (1992) and Samsara (2011).

What to know how man's best friend, became Man's best friend.

This movie hypothesize, what could have happened.

Also stealing a page from Avatar, the neolithic language was created by a college profession studying the neolithic site, and this is her best educated guess on what it could be.

I love this much much more than I love 10,000 BC (2008).

It seems more plausible.

The lead, Kodi Smit-McPhee plays Keda and he looks like Lukas Han.... tongue.gif

Okay, honestly, some scenes you have to suspend your disbelieve, but overall, enjoyable movie.

Show this movie some love people, it deserves it.

My Two Sen.

Leave No Trace (2018)
Director-Debra Granik (Winter's Bone, 2010)
Stars- Ben Foster, Thomasin McKenzie

Based on the Peter Rock’s 2009 novel My Abandonment.

A traumatized veteran and PTSD sufferer, Will (Ben Foster)
struggling with his demons. He escapes the real world by taking his
thirteen-year-old teenage daughter, Tom (Thomasin McKenzie) to lives
in the Forest Park in the mountains of Portland, Oregon.

We don't know what has led Will to believe this is best for himself
and his daughter. Running from societal expectations that he can't,
or won't face.
To evade capture, he puts her through drills to make her aware of the
traces that she leaves. Until one day when Tom is accidentally spotted
by a jogger in the woods.

Will Tom seek independence from her restless father for a safer
lifestyle, or he will voluntarily allow her the freedom to go
her own way?
Top notch filmmaking and should not be missed.

The acting still sucks, Japanese young actor typical problem. Always try to act cool instead of really play the character right

Venom (2018)

I am at a disadvantage...

I ready the comic where Venom was introduced to the Marvel universe and this is NOT it...

Okay, Sony had licensed back Spider-man movie license to Marvel/Disney, I get that.

After Andrew Garfield's drop out with the Head Hocho's of Sony, alot of the Venom/Sinister Six movie project got shelf, I get that.

I still have to say, I don't buy the origins as portrayed by this movie.

It is so... clunky.

Tom Hardy is a hard actor to evaluate.

Why?

He is a true chameleon?

I had to be reminded he is also in the DC universe, namely, Bane in The Dark Knight.

So what I am trying to say id that he truly sells his roles,, that you forget he is Tom Hardy

Which to me, makes Eddie Brock / Venom a hard sell.

He is very flawed and therefore, not necessarily like-able...

Malaysia is "mentioned/showed" in this movie and is.... not recognizable...

So, what am I saying, this movie was put together with good intention and with a good cast, and have to add, I did not like the story and because Tom Hardy did a good job tithe Eddie Brock, I did not like the mavie...

Am I making sense?? tongue.gif

My Two Sen

P.S. if you are a detail oriented then are two mini feature at the end credits.

Dont understand your review. Went in with low expectations due to many bad reviews but end up enjoying it albeit perhaps 7/10.
Tom hardy wasn’t bad as venom but making it a somewhat dark comedy wasn’t consistent with venom character in the comic book who is terrifying and serious.

It varies from writers and time period. Lethal Protector arc can clearly see Venom acting out cornball instead of wrecking ball. Post Civil War Venom went full villain and right now he is wisecracking god slayer against Knull the symbiote god. It changes with times at the whims of the assigned writer.

Project Gutenberg - Throwback to gun toting CYF.

If I'm not mistaken the last time I went to cinema for a HK movie was couple of years back. It was Trivisa, I think. Overall this is a highly serviceable HK action thriller from one half of the Infernal Affairs and Overheard trilogy creative. The selling point is seeing CYF being a certified badass since his John Woo days. Aaron Kwok continue his career goal to be a chameleon with just enough pizzaz to be successful at it. Personally I'm quite taken with Zhang Jingchu as the female lead.

While it will not replace any of the best action thriller in the heyday of HK cinema, it is considered an achievement given the sorry state of pandering to China market. Also it is what it is and certain comparison to a certain unreliable narrator classic will be unavoidable.
