Download from link follow on screen instruction and execute the exe files..

Upgrading Procedure for an Official OS release is as follows:

1. Download the OS and install it on your PC. (Make sure you have already removed any older OSes you have installed on your PC by going to Add / Remove Programs in Control Panel)

2. Delete the vendor.xml file (located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader)

3. Backup your 3rd party applications ( optional recommended step )

4. Connect your BlackBerry to your PC and right click on a file named Loader (located in the same place where you found the vendor.xml > C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\Loader.exe) and select '' Run As Administrator ''

5. Follow the prompts and make sure you select the languages and applications you wish to be installed.
The Loader will backup and restore your data by default.

Still Having Issues !!?
I would recommend using BBSAK to Upgrade, so

- Uninstall the OS(s) you already have installed on your PC
- Delete the folder (research in motion) in ( c: \program files\common files\research in motion )
- Restart your PC

BBSAK v1.8 Download Link: http://www.4shared.com/file/sS6F2NK2/BBSAKv18_Installer.html

Hey guys, i downloaded the exe file. Installed on my computer. Rename vendor.xml. Then run Loader.exe. After the process, my OS is not updated. Then I repeat the process. But this time stuck in middle of the process after clicking Loader.exe

The Message is " The BlackBerryDesktop Software does not have BlackBerry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator ".

I've google it. It need an alx file which provide by carrier. Went to Digi website. No such thing is there. Anyone can help?

** newbie here. First time using blackberry. 9700 user here

The Loader will backup and restore your data by default.

i think u must delete the vendor.xml file
just follow dicksonbell's step from page 1 carefully shud not have any problem

ya, those steps were what I did. But I might missed something in 5th step. Maybe forgot to check something. rclxub.gif
Now the step I stuck there can add Application Loader File (*.alx, *.ali) else cannot proceed to next step.
If anyone know where to get it please send to me, I think it might has similar copy on your pc. Million thanks notworthy.gif

I mean my own problem. Maybe I forgot to check something.
But I remember it was juz some common action/option through the process in 5th step.
So I got no clue what happened. Now phone is still working. But cant do OS upgrade.
How I wish I can try OS6 too... Bad luck...

Download from link follow on screen instruction and execute the exe files..

Upgrading Procedure for an Official OS release is as follows:

Still Having Issues !!?
I would recommend using BBSAK to Upgrade, so

- Uninstall the OS(s) you already have installed on your PC
- Delete the folder (research in motion) in ( c: \program files\common files\research in motion )
- Restart your PC
*
Thanks for the link... smile.gif
The last time when I updated my OS5, I had a problem with BBSAK. Something was not right that time where none of my items in the device have been backed up. How many version of BBSAK is there right now? Any good website on backup using BBSAK?

however, i got one question...how the heck do i go to the next day in my calendar? for example the old os5, if im viewing the hours of friday, i just need to push the sensor right and it will go to saturday, now with this new os6 cannot?

Added on January 7, 2011, 5:03 pmok my bad, it works like the old os5, just that u have to flick real fast now as if its a touch screen on that small lil sensor box of yours lol

I do not know about the official OS6. But on 6.0.0.424 leaked, my Bold2 on 3G can give me 1 to 2 days, while..EDGE can give me 3 days onwards to like 4.

ok guys, im confused now and i need help...when i installed my os6, i unistalled my blackberry desktop manager on my desktop...then i installed the program i downloaded rite with the link provided on page 1. i should have a new desktop manager right? where is it? or i shouldnt have uninstalled the desktop manager coz it is 2 different programs? please advise...am looking to sync my phone now and backup some files, etc.

in summary: is the os6 program .exe and blackberry desktop manager 2 different programs?

few of my humble opinion after install os6

problems
1. blackberry lag awhile after installation
2. after few full power off + pull battery felt better
3. ubertwitter can't connect having error
4. can't send bbm messages (only happened once but after pull battery, resolved)
5. first ever time i use my bold 2 for 10months, my line drop during a conversation
6. bbm conversation when scroll up cannot see the cursor, sometimes i need to go to the message to see when was the message sent

goodness! biggrin.gif
1. OS6.0 interface. New navigation system, blaa blaa blaa...
2. Notice after few restart, 3G somehow faster. Which is good!
3. Camera software much better than OS5
4. Many small issues from OS5 got it fixed.

Anyway, will test a few more days as an end user. Battery life is very subjective, you know lah.. when u get new OS.. you keep fiddling and wanting to know this and that.. battery sure drained like crazy...

Actually u don need to delete also can but no harm after u uninstall, the upgrading process still can happen normally because u are using the files from my computer>program files>common files>research in motion>apploader>loader. But before that u must delete vendor.xml file if not ithe upgrading won't happen. If u uninstallalrady then install back after u upgrade to os6,its the same but advisable to uninstall bb desktop manager 1st. Just follow closely from page 1 the steps shud be alright

yeah thats what i thought. thanks, i figured it out. OS Software and Desktop Manager are two separate programs, not the same, you don't have to uninstall DM if you want to install the OS6 Software.

It's really subjective. All hybrid is made different, with different customization.

Some works better than normal leaked one as they fixed the common bug issues.

Bold3 and Torch already came prefixed with OS6. Should be less buggy. smile.gif

As to on leaked OS and official OS. Leaked is like a Beta in that sense. I'm using leaked 6.0.0.424, quite good. Apart from small stuff like no cursor and all that, it's pretty snappy actually. Most importantly, memory leaks alot less compared to the previous leaked versions. Battery life is also quite good, running on 3G most of the time. smile.gif

Hey all,

For some reason i'm having this error with the official and previous leaked version when i open the browser window:

user posted image

After a couple of battery pull then it is ok...

Then once my phone restarts, the problem occurs again.

Any ideas on the solution? Tried googled...but no answer.

When you install OS6 don't forget to tick Social Feed and Youtube, by default the installation won't select these two apps, but I find it very, very useful!

just be sure to roll it back to a carrier suported OS before making any warranty claims.

usually when cases of not deleting the vendor.xml, is for deleting 3rd party app or installing new ones.

it works faster that way then slowly waiting to delete 1 by 1 in the device

Aborting? Try restart your phone by pulling out the battery then place it back in. And also must rmb to delete the vendor.xml file

vendor.xml is the most important files to take note. It has to be deleted before you can install a newer OS

tried googling, its quite a common problem bro, its called the "sudden 35% battery drop for os6 on 9700" , can't seem to find the solution yet. some say its the social feed app that is causing it, some say its just a bug, and a battery pull will actually reset your batt back to what it was...shrug

Thans a lot dicksonbell for the links.

So far no problem with os6 yet..very satisfied with the updates especially the browser n media.faster n smoother scrolling with introduction of tabs! I don't need opera mini now..

The browser shortcuts r disabled by default in the Options. U need to enable it back if u wanna use it. But personally I think the cursor itself is good enough smile.gif

About the crunchsms thingy, I also experienced the same thing. What I did was, delete that old apps n downloaded a new one from apps world n there u go!

Chinese pinyin input is a litttle different during typing.

You should update your Desktop Manager to v6 before backup and installing new OS... I worried you got problem now.. You have to restored back everything manually if automatic restored doesn't work...

As long as you got .ipd backup you still can restored in whichever version of Desktop Manager.. But not all at least contacts and sms will restored back then it is good enough...

Browse your PC for .ipd backup file first...

Lol.. Without Desktop Manager you wont have Loader files, without loader files you cant update/upgrade OS...
*
i believe once u install the bbos installer, there will be apploader.exe in the c:program files/common files/research in motion, the same folder vendor.xml that has to be deleted (has to be deleted if u used other carrier latest os). so to update the os, desktop manager is not neccessary.. after deleted the vendor.xml, straight away click on the apploader.exe, it wil do the rest.. just my 2 cent opinion only.. no offense..

Yes...I'm going do it later..

Question, 3rd party downloaded apps such as FB, banks, maps, aviation, chatting apps..

If I run a backup, all these will be backup and restore accordingly?
*
previously with os5, i was able to install more than 20 apps on the bb. but now with the os6, i can only manage to install twitter, fb, rss feeder beta, and bolt browser. else is the standard apps that comes with bb itself.. now the free application memory is only 20.4mb... open 3 tab on page on the browser, then u'll be giving an option to close the tab due to insufficient memory.. my advise, dont install too much apps on the os6.. 9700 does have the handsome extra memory like the one in torch or 9780.. sad.gif

Still Having Issues !!?
I would recommend using BBSAK to Upgrade, so

- Uninstall the OS(s) you already have installed on your PC
- Delete the folder (research in motion) in ( c: \program files\common files\research in motion )
- Restart your PC

BBSAK v1.8 Download Link: http://www.4shared.com/file/sS6F2NK2/BBSAKv18_Installer.html
*
Bro dickson, based on the above comment, If I want to use BBSAK to upgrade so I just need to do backup and upgrade to OS6. Then restored my apps.

I don't need to do it again on DM rite?

Thx

Yes used BBSAK to backup 3rd party apps.. But that not included core built in apps... i.e Twitter/Foursquare and etc, in another word Apps World apps cant be restored you need to installed again after load new OS6... Desktop Manager is for you to restored your SMS/MMS/Contacts/email...

I'm using OS6 on a 9700. Everytime I open a webpage, the browser opens it in a new tab. After opening 2 tabs it says that there's not enough memory and has to close some tabs. The problem is there are only 2 tabs open.
Is there a way to open it in the same tab? I don't need so many tabs.

I think RIM is trying to short change us. When they were working on OS6, they released 9700. Couldnt they have included more ram just to futureproof the 9700 rather than rip off their own customers by releasing the 9780. Come on la. Hitting below the belt even when they are losing to android and ios4 is not the way to gain customers.

could be but still they have to also focus on their existing customers rather than aim solely for new ones. Most phones should be designed to be upgradable (at least hardware wise) and i think iphones, android and symbian phones are. It is not so bad for 9700 owners but for storm 2 owners i'm sure you understand what i'm trying to say.

BTW, does anyone know how to turn off tabbed browsing for os 6?

How about the hybrid OS? do they also have tabbed browsing? Its a good idea but it doesnt really work for the 9700 because of the lack of memory. Need to work around it because opening 2 tabs will force it to close.

I got 2 problems as per below:

1) I installed OS6 on my 9700 but not asian version. So it doesnt read chinese. I now i want to install asian version. How to do it? i read through this forum and follow the step in the first page to install it from pc. i uninstall everything and reinstall and plug my hp in but no update software noted.

2) How do i browse internet using wifi without using BIS/BES? Cant seem to make it work.

Will be really appreciate if anyone of you could helpe me out on the above.

That is so stupid. Create tabbed browsing but force everyone to use the tabs. Couldnt they have just gave us the option to use tabbed browsing or not. Imagine if you're using the 9800, you click one link on one page and another opens. what if you just want to view it in the same page?

If you hold the touch pad long enough, there is an option to open page (which should be different from "open in new tab") but it still opens in new tab. then why create an option to "open page"?

horrible. so much for the webkit browser la.

This .380 version still has the problem of losing BIS/BES connectivity even if you are in the very good coverage area (i.e. no BB icon) with full signal in 3G or EDGE (capital letters).

Back to OS5.

Wow... this OS 6 took me so long to get it done... i fall asleep while waiting for the second last step ..... waiting for device initialization. My PC keep on pop out error message that my device was not connected. Frustrated and go to sleep. this morning woke up still the same problem. anyway i straight away unpluged the cable and the device restart automatically with the new OS and of coz the must see video. I had 1 same major problem with others out there which is sudden battery drop. I will keep on doing battery pull until it becomes normal (thanks to dicksonbell advice) i personally think this step sounds a little weird how come a battery pull can help to stabilize the battery, however i'll still give it a try, never try never know!

@bro Dicksonbell, i got few theme installed at my previous OS5 and from the restoration step i saw the theme was restored but i can't seem to locate them, any idea so that i can make a clean swipe of these theme... as the default OS 6 was pleasant enough for me!

drawbacks are the cursor (very well known drawback) and the tilting of FB screen when scrolling down or upwards, with the cursor missing (cant click comment/like) at times.

I have also encountered prob with SMS. A certain SMS history (previous sms conversation with the same person) went missing all of a sudden.

Apart from that I am ok. At least the new interface is nicer than OS 5

Double check your network setting it is under 2G only? If yes then switch to 2G & 3G...

1. Download OS5 you want
2. Used BBSAK to backup and wipe your current OS6
3. Backup your content via Desktop Manager
4. Follow on screen instruction to complete installing...

Basically is a same method you installing your OS6...

just updated and a barrage of things annoy me.

themes don't work.
games don't work.
apps don't work.
constant lag still there.
the new tabs annoy the shit out of me.
all my apps are all over the place, outside of its folders.

on the plus side.
battery is fine.
BIS works.

Tried for almost 2 days already..so far, like some said, if we use the browser tabs, with just 2 tabs already it will come out with low memory and require you to close the tabs..

probably I have to revert back to opera mini again for now.. i am using the opera mini beta 2..so far so good, except for the scrolling is not as smooth as the default browser..
