if u want more monitors together with awesomeness, u need the ooomph from GCs and sacrifice more money into the bills lol

This is not true. Multi monitor doesn't need super powerful GC. That only apply when you want to play games in multi monitor. For normal windows usages like browsing or typing letters and so on, just a normal GC that support multi monitor will do. You can still play games under 1 monitor if your GC not powerful enough. No need to waste money on GC just for normal desktop usage.

well believe me or not, slight lag can be felt if the required hardware aren't matched properly...something like bottleneck would occur.

So, my parents are getting a new computer (a Mac) and the old infected CPU and LCD monitor are getting thrown out. I'm trying to save the monitor by using it as a 2nd monitor for my laptop. Is it possible?

And I apologise but I'm pretty tech illiterate so can please dumb it down for me?

Erm, the monitor is a Samsung, 14 inches I think. Not sure about resolution but I think it's 1280x1024.

I'm sorry but what do you mean by hardware? If you're asking if I'm planning to reuse anything else; nope, just monitor.
