50mm f/1.8 and a +4 close up filter does wonders for food photography. Small, light, cheap, works well in dark restaurants and gives very nice shallow DOF.

Take off the filter and then can use to take your date's pic as well.

I think so... never had much experience with crop bodies.

I had D80's for about a year, used it will my old FF lenses, then traded up to a D700 the minute it was launched. I was shooting an F100 and F80 right up till 2008. Somehow APS-C just never felt right to me.

17-35/2.8 focuses to about 2 inches in front of the front-most element. But that thing is HUGE, and its difficult to use any strobes with it even if its an SB800 on the hotshoe. Best to use off-camera flash. I use the R1C1 if I have to shoot at macro ranges with the 17-35. Also, since its a wideangle, you don't get much magnification out of it as compared to a tele macro or 50/1.8 and close up. It goes up to ~ 1:5 while a 50/1.8 and +4 will get you down to about 1:2.5 life size, double the magnification of the 17-25/2.8

Plus its easier to carry around, and your date won't grumble about your camera's epeen size...

@BenSow: For macro I think MF is the easiest way to focus. It gives you the best control in placing your focus point. Difficult to frame and focus with AF since at macro ranges, a little bit of movement will change your framing by a lot.

Get the Sandisk reader! Seems faster and more reliable, pain once better tongue.gif. Its smaller than the AM500 too.

QUOTE(g_pentium @ Dec 31 2010, 05:36 PM)

QUOTE(keyz @ Dec 31 2010, 05:41 PM)
Dear all,

I'm using D90 (kitlens) + Nissin 622.

I will be attending my dept's bowling tournament. I bet the lighting maybe tricky. So, what the tips & other tools might come handy to get best photoshot ?

1. Set at shutter priority ?
2. Use white balance cap ?
*
You need to make sure you have sufficient shutter speed. Shoot in manual, get about 1/100-1/200 if you plan to shoot their action of bowling. Use smallest aperture available, and for ISO you need to depend how dark the location is.

QUOTE(llk @ Dec 31 2010, 06:30 PM)
Guys, i'm still new in photography, i just brought D7000 few days ago, thinking to buy a flash light, any recommendation? I heard friend said Nissin is a good brand, which model should i go? Thanks
*
What is your budget? Is it sufficient for a Nikon Speedlight? If yet then grab Nikon!

D700!

Only reason you should go D7000 if you've a lot of DX lens around. But if your lens majority is FX lens, then D700.

No snow at the moment. rather warm which is above 0. Hmm

Happy new year to you!

ADDON: Speaking about card reader. I recently bought a Sandisk card reader. Its black in colour very sexy looking, slim as well, that's is REALLY FAST MANG.

The best card reader I use at the moment. Highly recommended.
