Yes you are right ! Find what is actually limiting you.

I was thinking Sigma 17-50 too but too expensive for me now.
You can google for it.

Anyway i still give you an answer : Approximately 900g
Why not invest on your skills and lenses first before upgrade to FX. You got a good Nikon D7000. If i were you, i go fully utilize Nikon D7000 then invest on lenses.
Ask youself are you getting FX is because most of professional using it ? Do you fully understand what is FX ? What you want to get from FX? Haha i no offense har , i just ask you only =D , anyway just KEEP BUY BUY BUY BUY if got $$

Go for the Non-OS version, much cheaper, but it's 18mm instead of 17mm.

If OS is not a must, can consider the 18-50mm EX DC Macro HSM.

Yea.... Correct! u probably CAN'T focus in low light!! budget?? 17-50 + SB900!! For concerts? 70-200 VRII  flex.gif  28-75 no idea..... but Tamron has prob with focus la.... I got 1 fren using 1 big Tamron lens, forgotten which 1 already, bright daylight oso cant focus correctly, hahaaaa..... I think the 17-50 is one of the best Tamron could offer la, but I do appreciate the VC of Tamron very very much!! too dependent on VR dy, perhaps u can look at Sigma 17-50 OS, better still....

am using it 90% of my shoot. quite ok for its price. but a bit dissapointed with the reviews. not as good as it told. focusing super slow and low light? big AF assist from SB900 will do ed

Very true. It's failing because the AF assist light on the body is not that good. Performs very well when paired with SB900 flex.gif

You guys seriously think that the D800 will be so much better than the D700 that it would be actually worth the upgrade cost for a hobbyist?

it would be if there is a big increase in MPs (that crowd will love it), full HD video. BUT, if the flash is absent from the D800, that would be a bummer. for the D700 users, I would think spending on lenses and maybe even the recently released Pocketwizards FlexTT5 and MiniTT1 would be more beneficial and sensible, especially if photography is only a hobby to you.

the D700 is a wonderful camera. atleast that's wut i know. i got a chance to hold one, its a fren of a fren's camera. well obviously i dont know how to maneuver it.
the megapixel jumps from 12mp to 16 mp. that's a big different. but i read somewhere nikon put it as 12mp to gain better light-retrieval and to control noise at high-ISOs. for those who really loves to crop the 16mp can be nice, otherwise i think the 12mp is serving just fine. better fps than the d700 of course. and a video mode as well. well my current camera got this video feature and i dont use it that much. i only used it twice. first when i first got the camera so i wanted to try it, and the second time is when i was somewhere and wanted to try it again laugh.gif . the video feature is nice although i dont use it that much, its always there when i need it. wut im trying to say is, if i own a D700, i wud definitely keep it. but for those who use it for ur works and needs extra pixels/ISO range/more fps/bla bla..shud get it then. just my 2 cents tho biggrin.gif im not a nikon user anyway. icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyone knows how much is a 50mm f1.4G is selling now?
Is it that much of a difference in terms of focusing speed and IQ compared to the f1.4D?

Nah, D3 doesn't have video too. D3 is the probably only FF without sensor cleaning xD that one more unique tongue.gif.

Yeah, its tough to come up with a better camera than D700. I would upgrade to D800 if somehow the AF system is improved further, say more cross sensor points biggrin.gif. Else I would just stick to D700.

The D700 to me feels like the F100. I have nothing else I'd want from it. Its even better than the F100 it has MLU.

As forvideo...Nikon's video is... For thelack of a better word... A piece of crap. Even my cameraphone has less rolling shutter effect.

can't agree more with that. I wouldn't mind having less AF points, but if they are more spaced out from one another, then thats better!

Ditto, I don't mind lesser AF points if they introduce more cross sensor points at the usually used areas. The edges of the 51AF for example.

get the 50mm f/1.8, less than RM400 for a fast normal lens : bargain! absolutely love this lens.
spend the rest of your money on a trip to use that lens brows.gif
the difference between the 3 Nikon 50 mils are minimal in my view

IMO, the G has better CA control than the D. I would go for the G because of that biggrin.gif. Not to mention using AF-S instead of screw driven.

A friend of mine uses his 50mm f/1.4D a lot (as in really a lot). Recently when I mount his 50mm f/1.4 and shooting it at f/1.4 the focus doesn't seem accurate like when due. Seems that the screw driven area already worn out a bit :S.

Added on January 22, 2011, 12:13 pmHoly crap, D7000 + kit going for 4400 at friend's place in Melaka -.- cheap sia.
