Battery capacity is a miserly 1150mAh on the Curve 3G. Drains pretty fast on a single charge if I use all its functions about 2 - 3 days if I am lucky. Reminds me of my LG Arena phone which has 1100mAh and it lasts 2 - 3 days at most.

I'm using latest leak version 6.0.0.418 since yesterday but i still got the old os 6 .380 version...new version use about 180Mb space...now only 50 to 60 Mb space left.so far much better and faster but still suck on facebook because of scrolling is to fast and using opera mini in blackberry is still suck the scrolling not very good..email viewing still no full HTML make it hard to view table and picture since no zoom in and out function on the email...well it business device so it should have that features ..Iphone,nokia latest symbian and android have those features.. .no new themes for OS 6...battery life look ok..i think better than os 5

Yes it is a StarHub Offical OS page... Just download install and delete the vendor.xml.. No need BBSAK since there are no modification and it is an Official OS.. But make sure you removed the old OS from your Desktop first...

Just upgraded to the official OS 6.0.0.380. The internal memory after the upgrade is only around 53MB. Before the upgrade it was 95MB. May I know is this normal? and why there is a loss of memory after the upgrade?

Thank you and Merry Christmas to all!

During installation you didnt choose what apps/language you need and what you dont need? If you install everything it will take up lot of space... Try to connect and removed what you apps dont need...

Upgrading Procedure for an Official OS release is as follows:

1. Download the OS and install it on your PC. (Make sure you have already removed any older OSes you have installed on your PC by going to Add / Remove Programs in Control Panel)

2. Delete the vendor.xml file (located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader)

3. Backup your 3rd party applications ( optional recommended step )

4. Connect your BlackBerry to your PC and right click on a file named Loader (located in the same place where you found the vendor.xml > C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\Loader.exe) and select '' Run As Administrator ''

5. Follow the prompts and make sure you select the languages and applications you wish to be installed.
The Loader will backup and restore your data by default.

Still Having Issues !!?
I would recommend using BBSAK to Upgrade, so

- Uninstall the OS(s) you already have installed on your PC
- Delete the folder (research in motion) in ( c: \program files\common files\research in motion )
- Restart your PC

You need to go respective folder i.e Video/Picture/Music and press options and received via Bluetooth... But before this you need to pair with each other first no matter what device is the other party...

I'm planning to choose BB instead of iphone. But I wish to pick the best BB phone which i can afford from my budget. After doing research, i found out that 9300 is the best suit for me. But still, i have some question which need someone to answer it for me.

1) Bold BB have a LED light in front of the phone which will blink when there are message or phone call, do Curve 9300 have this function too?

2) Heard that curve 8520 cannot upgrade to the new OS 6, can 9300 keep upgrade whenever Blackberry company release new system like Bold 9700 but not limited like 8520?

3) Since that each BB had their own specific pin, if i lost my phone, can it be track down by the telco company? ( i earn those money very hard, i don't hope it just lost that easy)

4) Last, some lame question. I know 9780 and 9700 is always FTW, but beside that two phone, Is Curve 9300 3G the best phone for BB user recently? ( I don't like touch screen so don't recommend torch, thanks )

Thanks everyone. BB forever.

Since most are all answered by Dickson.

I like to add another note to 4.
Yes bold is FTW. But that is a higher-end spec phone provided you have the budget.
As for new users who wants to experience the BB environment, purchasing Curve 9300 is a good choice, since it has 2G and 3G as well.

Good luck ^^

What you need to know before installing a hybrid:

Lately it seems that hybrid OSes have become popular faster than an understanding of what a hybrid is and how it works. While the spread of hybrid OSes is a good thing, the spread of knowledge is even better. In order to acknowledge this, I am writing this beginners tutorial regarding what a hybrid is, how it works. This instruction is limited by my own basic and restricted knowledge, and hampered by my lack of formal hybrid training. As with any hybrid, this instruction will undoubtedly contain errors. That being said...

Some basics regarding the BlackBerry OS:
Basically, BBOS has two parts: a .sfi file, and several hundred .cod files.
The .sfi file is more commonly known as the radio file, or the base. The .sfi is the most important part of the BBOS. Think of it as the foundation of the entire operating system; if the foundational .sfi is buggy, cracked, etc., then nothing that is built on it is going to be perfect. Most major changes between OSes are a result of the .sfi - for example, the differences between OS5 and OS6 are almost exclusively controlled by the .sfi. Every phone and every RIM OS has a different .sfi.
The .cods determine smaller, less integral parts of the BBOS. For example, net_rim_bb_tasks is for the tasks app; net_rim_bb_btfiletransfer controls transferring files over bluetooth (both of these examples are off the top of my head, but I think they're actual BBOS .cods). Think of the .cods as the house built on the foundation. Some .cods have dependences on other .cods, and will not work properly if other .cods are removed. Using the house example, if you break or remove your gas line your stove won't work (no jokes about electric stoves please). A well known example of this in BBOS is that if you remove Voice Activated Dialing, the about screen will not work.

Getting the .sfi and .cod files onto your BlackBerry:
RIM has created software to place the .sfi and .cods onto the BlackBerry device. The most popular among hybriders is Loader.exe, usually referred to as AppLoader. Loader.exe is found in c:/Program Files/Common Files/Research In Motion/App Loader on a windows 32bit PC. The location is :\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\*os name and release number*\Java (thanks to mikeplus1 for that) on 64bit systems, and I have no idea where it is on a mac. Loader.exe determines what files to install by reading an .alx file. .Alx files can also be used to install BlackBerry apps. Another type of file, the .jad file, is similar to the .alx but is not used in the OS installation.
Programs like BBSAK launch loader.exe to install the actual hybrid. As of now, loader.exe is the number one tool for hybrid installation.

A bit about hybrids:
First, hybrids rarely do anything with the .sfi file. As the .sfi is a single file, it cannot (as far as I know) be edited or improved. And to be honest, I trust RIM to improve the .sfi more than any hybrider. In rare occasions, a hybrid will contain a .sfi; an example of this is the .sfi from 9650 OS 6.0.0.398, which until recently was held exclusively by RIM testers, hackers, and certain hybriders who required payment of a VIP fee for access to it. Because 6.0.0.398 is still in the exclusive control of these individuals at this time, the released .sfi file from that build is included in some hybrids. This is an exception to the rule; for the most part, a hybrid will instruct you to install a certain BBOS before installing the hybrid. The installation of the hybrid will not do anything to the .sfi file.
Hybrid OSes usually attempt to improve performance by replacing .cod files. Hybrid makers usually replace specific files which are dependent on each other (much like renovating a kitchen in a home) with .cods from a newer BBOS. In general it seems that hybrid makers tend to attempt to use files from the newest available OS, under the assumption that RIM fixes bugs as time passes. This assumption usually proves to be correct.
Because a hybrid cannot usually improve upon the .sfi file, it is unlikely to see any truly remarkable change from a hybrid. Most hybrids aim for some combination of improved signal, improved battery life, faster/smoother internet browsing, and an overall smoother OS experience. Small bugs may also be fixed by a hybrid, and small UI changes may take place. Sometimes a hybrid does all of these things, and sometimes they fail miserably.

Installing a hybrid:
Ultimately most hybrids only replace some .cod files from an official OS with .cods from a different OS, and perhaps modify the .alxs which tell the loader.exe what to install. Running a hybrid installer overwrites files with the hybrid files. Hybrids are usually installed into c:/program files/common files/research in motion/shared/loader files/*os name and release number*/. The .cod files are located in the Java folder in this location. Again, this location is slightly different in 64bit versions of windows.
Before installing, always delete the vendor file if you're using a base os from a carrier other than your own.
Always use the loader.exe to install it - BlackBerry Desktop Software is not a preferred hybrid install choice. The actual installation is quite simple - launch loader.exe and let it do it's thing. After you first install your hybrid, you will see those arrows in the top right going crazy. Your BlackBerry has to go through a lot of work to get everything organized. Do several battery pulls in the first 12 hours, and expect a 24-48 hour "settling" period.

Some final words about hybrids:
Often after a hybrid install your BBM groups won't load properly (anyone in a BBM group with me is unfortunately very much aware of this fact). This is not the fault of the hybrid, but rather a result of BIS not working properly. It happens more often to some than to others. To get your groups back, just ask your group members to add you back.
Another note on BBM groups is that restoring Groups is hard on the batteries of everyone in the group. I suspect RIM set it up this way to reduce strain on their servers.
Finally, never forget that you or the hybrid builder owns nothing in regards to the hybrid. The .cods and .sfi belong to Research In Motion regardless of any effort and time the builder put into making them. Further, it is likely that the building and installing (and most definitely the selling) of hybrids is impermissible under RIM's terms of use. No proprietary rights exist in a hybrid other than those owned by RIM.

Hopefully this will help people to understand what a hybrid OS is and some of the basics on how it works. The best way to truly learn about hybrids is to mess around with the .cod files yourself. Doing so will help you to better understand the BBOS, make you better at understanding hybrids, and allow you to perhaps solve minor problems in any hybrids you install.

Would it be any data charge?

Hey BB Pros~ i wana get my first BB and im kinda limited by budget. Plan to get 9300. In terms of performance/battery life, are they similar ( 9780 vs 9300 )?
what i know is;
9780 - 512 ram, 5mp cam, hi res screen, bigger batt.
9300 - 256 ram, 2mp cam, low res screen, smaller batt.
But is the difference big? take out the camera of the comparison. Both OS 6 right?

Download from above post #146

Here are the instruction for leaked OS:

Download the leaked OS
Back up data on Desktop Manager under Back up/restore option. NOTE: If you get an error during this process, clear your browser cache (Browser > Menu Key > options > cache operation > clear all of them)
Back up your 3rd party apps.
Disconnect your BB from Desktop Manager
Download desired OS to your PC
Install/run OS to PC
If you are NOT on Verizon, delete vendor.xml file. It’s located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
Connect BB to Desktop Manager and it should
Click Application Loader
Click Update
At this point, disconnect your computer from the internet
Select the OS you would like to load and continue
Do not unplug BB during the process. It will take around 20-90 minutes to complete upgrade.

Note: Make sure to back up your phone and third party apps prior to updating in case something goes wrong in the update process...

@aans I did try to call from phonebook, can, but my contact was a simple Work contact. Wifi also auto. It seems when you on wifi, it auto change to use wifi connection in browser. I am not sure where to set this. I turn off wifi, then it is back to BIS.

now i can browse with wifi..I think the blackberry os 6 is not stable yet.. I got a lot of problems when using os6..now i downgrade os 5 back..and sistem ok..

Last Tuesday I went to Brightstar Corp at ss19 pj .. I told my problem on blackberry curve os 6 when used to say .. os 6 Curve 9300 is still not fully launched in Malaysia and not stable .. the possibility of mid-year announcement will be made ..

and while I was there, there are many customers come to return the Blackberry 9800 and Blackberry users have had to wait a month for phone sent to Singapore for repair .. many customers say they can not open the phone, hang, error, and auto reboot ..

6 os do you think is not perfect?

@anns , BlackBerry is not perfect, it took me quite an amount of money to know that,

May I know how do you downgrade to OS5? I am using OS6,update from BlackBerry Desktop Software, it is okay-ish for me, internal browser works, but Opera Mini not, this is sad, I am big fan of Opera Mini

i read this

How do I downgrade the OS on my BlackBerry?
1. Delete the newer OS from your PC by going to Control Panel >Add/Remove Programs.
2. Then download and install the older version of the OS. BlackBerry Operating System Downloads
3. Install the older OS to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
4. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
5. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

Added on February 5, 2011, 12:34 ami download os 5 and add/remove program os 6..

n i follow taxt and its done..
or u download dis JL_Cmder v1.9 to wipe ur device if cannot open ur device..

Bro, how about to switch to prepaid plan? Since you mentioned that your gf is light or medium user, prepaid plan is the best way..
That's my 2 cents.

hmm.. then would Digi BB prepaid plan suit her? only the RM2/day would seem like a good package that could really utilise the BB.. anyone here with the experience on this?

if i just get the hp..then should i just get a second hand 9700? dun really need a high end model.. intially thinking bout BB9300 for my gf

^ I'm on the postpaid plan..
But my friemd is on the RM2/day plan..
100mb per day for RM2..I might say that it's really good..

Speed and support is a different matter, depends on where u are..

But with prepaid u can always change to other plan anytime..

there is a official OS 6 for 9700, why you choose to use 9300?

The rebooting could due to incompatible after u use 9300 OS on ur bold 9700.

Hi All,

I tried to search in the forum but didn`t find any lead for BB GPS.

Im getting my Curve 3G 9300 soon, and as I know it has a GPS installed.

Now my question:

1) do we need to download any software to use the GPS?
2) need to buy the software?
3) support Malaysia maps?
4) any pics to share on the gps in action?

If got any sifu there knows about this...pls help explain to me smile.gif

Your Q&A:
1) Yes need a proper GPS software to run in our Blackberry
2) Yes you need to pay it is not free
3) Wisepilot support Malaysia Map, Garmin is available but no one is creating the Maps till todate
4) Is already in your apps world, you can get free trial 5 days if you download and use it...

Added on February 27, 2011, 10:29 pmanybody facing such problem? i have updated to OS6 from OS5 for my 9300

everything is working well.. jz that my BBM not working as efficient as last time.. when i sent msg to my gf (which is using OS5) she can receive immediately, when she replied.. i wont get it immediately.. only when i open facebook app, or open browser that something will activate the connection then only the BBM msg will come in.

if i downgraded back to OS5, such problem wont happen..
anyone any idea?

dickson - does brighstar cover the warranty if my trackpad might be faulty? it works, but not smooth at all even though is at 7 or 8 or 9. i find it troublesome using it with my left hand. i had to use my fingertip and slide it up using my right hand.

they told me they will give me a spare phone bb 8520.. i was shocked also when they told me 1 month. not sure if i should go ahead or should i wait a little while more? maybe during the time when they can fix for me quick without needing to send to singapore. my phone is only 3 months old.. still can claim anytime within the 18 months right?

hi,same here. well apparently its not the problem. curve 3g trackpad is different now compared to curve 8520. u have to use ur fingertip to scroll up. its just the way its designed. but if can buy another trackpad to replace this current one,i wouldnt mind.

yeah they had to reformat, so therefore you will get back the os5. but i updated it to os6, and installed all my apps again. icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi guys, I'm a new user of the BB 9300 and am facing a major problem
Whenever I try to add a new email account, the phone prompts me with an "Existing Users" form to fill.
The problem is I don't have a User name and a Password to enter.
So how do I add a new email account?

Hi all,

Is there any voice conferences application for blackberry that uses data plan instead of normal call rate?

For Digi, the data plan is unlimited in pricing, but the voice call is charge on a per-minute basis.

Hi everyone

I'm thinking of getting 9300, Its the first time I'll be using a BB. I would like to know if I must subscribe Unlimited Data Plan @ RM68/mth from DiGi? Or I just need to pay RM15/mth for the BB service?

TQ

hi bro dickson, i plan to buy a curve 3G but i was unsure of its GPS capability. since i saw you mentioned it is able to use google map do you know there is a thing called GSM GPS tracker?
it is a small little device like matchbox whereby you can place it in your car or hang it on your pet so you can track them down by calling the device, it will send coordinate through sms to your mobile and you have to trace through google earth with your gps enabled handheld.

also is it safe to buy an AP set from my local vendor since i don't want to be tied on a contract? Can i still update it to OS6 through official website under Digis? i am a Digi user.

thanks in advance

I not really aware about this software and does it workout with BlackBerry Google Maps.. You got to ask for the expert about the external matchbox GPS device..

Buying AP are safe just make sure you check everything especially the Voice and Data timer to confirmed it is new and not recond/used... As long it is original BlackBerry 9300 3G it can support any OS6 available in market...

It's the same. I own both the 3G and 8520 3 days ago and thought of the same thing. Tested and it is indeed very identical in terms of image quality.

Added on March 18, 2011, 6:12 pmHey razz, the solution for the wifi

Select your home hub network from the list and then the pop up will appear asking you about the PIN. If you scroll down and select 'Cancel' you should be able to enter your normal password.

Hi guys,

Can anyone guide me how to tether my BB? I googled it looks complicated. What I did was just plug in and click mobile internet on desktop manager. Is that the right way to do? Or they charge differently if I do that way. BTW I'm on maxis 1Gb plan n unlimited plan (my wife's n mine).

1. go to manage connections. off mobile network, on wifi. if u see dark grey and white on ur wifi logo at home screen, means its connected succesfully, then can surf. as far as i know, you can still bbm and use facebook/twitter application, as long as u subscribe to BIS service. cause i did just that when i was outstation.

2. to check OS, you can just connect to dekstop manager and you can see your OS version there. smile.gif

or, go to settings, click device, then click about device versions.

btw, i hate foursquare. its lame with all those badges to collect. sweat.gif sweat.gif

Yup, all BB Curve 9300 will come with OS 5 by default.

All you need is the following :
1) BB Desktop Manager - download from BB website
2) OS 6 firmware for Curve 3G - download from BB website. Select either DiGi, Maxis or Celcom. The latest when I last downloaded was 6.0.0.448.
3) micro USB cable - comes with your BB package.
4) A computer/laptop with good internet connection

you are ready to go. Install (1) & then (2). Once installation complete, connect your device to your PC and follow the steps there to update the firmware.

i've solved it...hahaha...

u must have a legitimate account with any telco (celcom, digi, maxis) which is BIS or BES...

but if u're a prepaid user like me, im paying rm1 to celcom for bbm and social network...than they registered my blackberry to rim

only after that, u're subscribed to rim under the name of ur local telco..

Yes. I am using this for my Celcom device.
Just follow steps posted by DicksonBell on model 9700.

BlackBerry Handheld Software v6.0.0.2391
This is the setup package version.
You need to look at the Application version which is v6.0.0.534.
Most refer to Application version as the OS version.

data service = on, wifi = on, BIS = on -> normal

Hi, my 9300 sometimes got problem with the SMS&MMS. It just hangs, and I can't access anymore, when other apps still work well. Only when I turn-off, remove battery and reopen then the problem is solved. But it's kinda annoying, anyone knows this problem?

Download the latest BBSAK @ http://bbsak.org/ then load the OS thru there.
Make sure you've backed up all your files before you update, will take you around 30 mins or so.
Hope this will help smile.gif

I'm currently running 6.0.0.600

1. you go to program files>commonfiles>Research In Motion>AppLoader
delete vendor.xml (if dont want telco company name appear)

click loader.exe
thats it

2.if still cannot
uninstall yr os 6 from yr pc
and also delete apploader folder (as mention above)

then reinstall again yr os6 in pc
repeat step 1.

recently this few days, felt the phone heating up itself, minor, not like very hot, but feel a bit warmer than usual

the battery drain so quickly... wont last a night, after i charged full and went to bed, in the morning, battery too low to receive signal

but also charge so quickly to be 100% sweat.gif

i bought original from authorised dealer

- do the battery cover in warranty in this case? i guess chances pretty low

- how much is the ori battery ? sigh.........................

Close all aps that you didn't use, eg. foursquare.
If you want to save batt more, don't on the data services when you are not using it.
Mine can last 1 and a half day using standard battery.

If you want to change to higher capacity battery, I would recommend SunGlobal 1850 MAH battery.
