hmm that is the same as what I am thinking, premium vs free but at the same speed, save RM22 and I'll get few glasses of teh tarik.
Thanks for replying

Just bought a new GC for my PC, Gigabyte GT430 OC 1gb DDR3. Installing nvidia driver for my opensuse is just a breeze. Look what glxgears has to say about my new card
CODE yazid@linux-85zb:~> glxgears *** NOTE: Don't use glxgears as a benchmark. OpenGL implementations are not optimized for frame rates >> 60fps, thus these numbers are meaningless when compared between vendors. 53967 frames in 5.0 seconds = 10793.301 FPS 54450 frames in 5.0 seconds = 10889.850 FPS 53939 frames in 5.0 seconds = 10787.571 FPS 54801 frames in 5.0 seconds = 10960.086 FPS 53935 frames in 5.0 seconds = 10786.511 FPS 51043 frames in 5.0 seconds = 10208.298 FPS My previous Galaxy 9400GT 512mb card the highest score were around 4000+ FPS |

QUOTE(axxer @ Jan 25 2011, 09:27 PM) ohhh how i envy opensuse Maybe they are awaiting for super super stable version then they'll packed it in the repo haha. on debian, vlc still 1.1.3 in testing and unstable.. while 1.1.6-1 is in experimental, but only for amd64 and sparc platform. the rest platform is still 1.1.5-3 |

Ubuntu users won't get this gnome 3 as mr shuttlecock has decided to use unity for their next de. Well, good news to mint users as they will stick with gnome and not following ubuntu that will migrate to unity.

Just wiped out my suse due to cracking sound of seagate barracuda 160gb, so annoying sounds. Need to downgrade to another 80gb hdd, going to install into other distros until the new version of suse comes out. #! oh yeah...

Go for proprietary, do know what is the best for their hardware.
Added on February 6, 2011, 10:22 amdemmm guddd... the first successful display with crunchie! now I can say that unfriendly behavior between debbie and the nvidia 9 series. I am getting my screen back with gt430, time to bang my debbie. This post has been edited by powerwoot: Feb 6 2011, 10:22 AM |

hi flame, your setting all maxed out for an older laptop... of course you'll get lower fps, try to reduce it and see how it goes. If you get fglrx working I believed it may help some of the 3D performance.

your direct rendering is on, but the glxinfo is returning low fps. I am giving my opinion on desktop environment for my past agp radeon 256mb. Using opensource, I am getting below 500 fps > so limited desktop effects. Compiled to fglrx, boosted to 1500 fps an excellent output with all the effects enabled. The reason why your fglrx does not performs well is beyond my knowledge.
